This was taken on with a webcam filter back in 2010 and hoping to unwarp it for Christmas gift.
It’s the only picture I have of my partner and I from when we first met, so despite it being a goofy picture, would be nice to see it without the effect!

Once I had a guy print off a picture of me I posted (like on actual glossy photo paper) then he jacked off to it & jizzed on it and sent me a pic back of it that way...
Moral of the story is you don't know wtf people are doing with images you post but yeah, feeding photos to AI without consent is just about as bad as jizzing on them without consent. Don't do these things people.

I’m not disagreeing with the sentiment, however if you are posting your photo to any platform, AI has access to it regardless. They don’t keep some special album for “images uploaded to chat gpt”, all of it is web based anyway.

do you know the name of the filter or what app it was? i’m trying to take a crack at it myself but struggling to figure out how to reverse engineer it. i feel like playing around with the filter myself would help give me a better idea of where the points of distortion start.

It is still on every Mac and if the filter is still the same, someone could take a photo with the filter of a paper with grid layout.
chatgpt may be able to write a de-warp program given that warped grid.
You can probably get the transformation matrix using opencv's camera calibration routines

Since I absolutely despise AI (and seeing ppl use it here to have OP and her bf look like completely different people) I just used some liquify tools from procreate to get this. Not high quality, I'm definitely an amateur, but it took me 15 mins max so it IS possible.

AI doesn't know what you look like. It just sees "face" so it puts a random face it got trained with in that picture. It doesn't unwarp the original, it just imagined what a picture would look like and makes something different out of it. So yeah, don't go with AI lol

My guess is information was lost the first time it was warped, so even if you reversed the process exactly, it wouldn't look like the original.

This surprising does look closer to me! But yes you’re right, without a reference it’s tough. I’m not sure the task can really be done without the original photo data.

As another person said. If you can narrow down which device/app was used to do the warp, that could also help unwarp it. Someone who knows much more than me about digital art or coding could probably undo it. But 2 other pictures of you two individually from that time frame could help too.
I believe it was the Cyberlink YouCam on a laptop from 2009. The picture is now just a saved picture of a saved picture unfortunately.
Ah, the image being compressed multiple times could create issues. Likely a pretty low res image to begin with, which could help. I'll do some digging, but I assume someone with more know-how than I might step in.

I agree. AI has taken over not just photo editing but many other areas of our lives. The verified editors in psrs do actually still have the skill set to edit an image without the use of ai or very little ai to touch up seams and such. Edits are held for 30 mins to allow editors to do a proper job and not rush. Edits are released after 30 mins and the OP has the opportunity to look through them, ask for adjustments and select which they prefer. It actually is very helpful all the way around. The option is there but ops also can choose to just have an open edit done where all editors within the group can work on it, similar to the other group and that is where ai is used more rampantly because everyone wants to be first. Straight forward editing takes time but sadly so many editors (or those who only know ai) will rush to get it done quickly. I personally would love to see an editor reconstruct the above image without the use of ai or stable diffusion, although it would probably cost a lot more.

you do realize that an edit like this is not going to happen with traditional methods of photoshop right (common sense) Also the OP has posted that there were no rules set (aka no issues with AI). He is also not forced in any way to take any of the edits offered to him. The image is light hearted and fun. The ai edits are also light hearted and fun because without reference photos it makes it difficult. Perhaps you can show me how a true photoshop edit (not ai) is accomplished with this type of picture since you seem to think it's possible. I have time to wait.
