Basically Mojang got a (marketplace?) developer version of bedrock leaked, and then people found a bunch of secret commands on it and an f3 menu.
Later in the post they talk about their minecraft getting deleted, and they theorize mojang is connecting to their game and modifying it without permission.
I don't think I can share the dev build link here, but it's on the archive near the bottom of the post.
What a nothing burger. This kid isn't "uncovering some dark truth" they just posted a link to leaked dev build directly into a reddit post. I'm also confused on how they think it's impossible to make maps or mods for bedrock?? Do they know nothing about the game beyond ibxtoycat and playing on their xbox?
Edit: I did have a reddit moment with the tone of this comment but I still have no clue what's profound about this post. Did you all think mojang was developing bedrock without devtools or am I missing something entirely here?
Point is, if such devtools exist and can be implemented in the game, why aren't they?
Its not hard to implement those features if they already exist in dev versions. Look at java for instance, all the tools possible to implement are implemented, and if you need more tools they have a huge mod support.
When we can have an F3 screen, and it exists on specific versions, why dont we have it in the base game?
TL;DR Mojang or specifically Jeb has openly commented about why the screen isn't in bedrock and I assumed most people knew the reasons why. I didn't like the OP's post because they were making it out as a huge mystery when the information is already out there.
I wasn't aware that the majority of the community wasn't up to speed on this so I'll just share what I know then. The devtools aren't in the game for 3 major reasons.
Jeb hates the F3 screen. It's a holdover from indev that never got taken out because Java players are notoriously fickle about any of their beloved tools being removed from the game. Any other developer would have taken it out and nipped those shenanigans in the bud around the game entering alpha but here we are now.
Mojang is... weird, about bedrock edition in particular. Every feature is all or nothing for them. If something can't work in any of bedrock's platforms then they won't bother at all. (Fireflies, bundles, offhand, etc. have all been affected by this policy.) The F3 menu will have to have some sort of way to be supported by all versions of the game, which considering the nature of the screen, (it's literally called the debug screen officially) is pretty unlikely to happen if you want anything close to resembling the java screen. Remember that this is a feature that shows system information and info about the game that has to get past the moderation for the xbox and playstation store, the nintendo eshop, and the appstore and google play store. If it meets a road block on any of those (looking at nintendo here) then it's a no-go for bedrock as far as Mojang is concerned. And this is ignoring the readability concerns with the menu which is going to happen with the huge variety of screen sizes that are out there. The F3 screen is only really readable on a computer monitor.
This is the big one... we are not obligated to a debug screen or dev commands in any way. If you went onto the subreddit for any other game and demanded that players get access to debug tools, you would get called a lunatic. Even most pc games that have a console use it mostly for cheats (like the console commands that are already in the game) If you really need specific info or have a specific usecase that would be easier with a debug screen then... great! There are addons for that out there and they are easy to find. There's no technical impossibility for the debug screen and there's no rule against one being in the game, you've just had to bring your own. Java players mod tools even stronger than the default F3 menu into the game all the time, it's not the end of the world.
My initial comment is made with that information in mind. Mojang (or maybe just Jeb in particular) has been pretty clear that they want the game to be straight forward and intuitive, and there's nothing that I can think of that's less intuitive than the F3 menu. I love it and use its features as much as any other technical minecraft player but there's no good implementation for "press this weird key combo/ toggle this hidden menu option and then use that information to view the chunk borders" or whatever else you want to do with it. It's a pretty open and shut case (at least for people in the know, seemingly) that these tools are only withheld from the public releases because Mojang doesn't like their tools being used by the community for normal gameplay.
As for why I hated the OP's post it's because of how much they were making this situation out to be some sort of "dark secret" or whatever. It's odd for Mojang in particular to be tight lipped about their software but come on. It's not strange at all for devs to not majorly comment on their game tools.
The only thing amiss here are the reports that marketplace contributors get access to these tools, which is presumably how they leaked in the first place, but even then I'd sure hope that Mojang would offer their top contributors some support for making content for their game. This is the main sticking point to their agonizingly long text post and it's the only actual piece of substance offered by OP but it might as well be a footnote compared to their main tangent about their game crashing.
Speaking of that, OP is a little... out of their depth when it comes to the whole "computers" thing. I don't expect them to be an expert so I'll look past the fluff and speculation that they bloated their post with. Their real sin is posting a link and instructions for installing a leaked client. Since that version of the game was never given out or released publicly providing a link to it is illegal and is the actual reason why their post got taken down.
Of course I don't give a shit about "respecting the law" when it comes to stuff like this but Microsoft and Reddit do and it's good practice to not post files like that because it hurts everything that's attached to it. OP had no reason to post it and now this post is sensationalizing theirs because of it. There's nothing wrong about talking about bedrock's devtools, it's not a "secret," this guy is just an idiot and posted an illegal file.
Sorry about the wall of text but I tried to go for a short comment and obviously that didn't go well. This whole reply is a waste of time but I do like to do these long form comments just for the sake of getting some more info out there. If this is able to explain to even one person a little piece of what's going on in this post then it's worth it for me but I do understand that it's a shitty way to reply to someone lol.
Actually don’t have a clue how people are disagreeing with you here
OOP sounds like a lunatic. They’re rambling on about it like it’s some massive case. I was thinking something serious was going on with how they were talking about it.
It’s just a load of fluff with the main point being that there’s a couple dev tools they want in bedrock. Like that’s it. There’s no need for all that text for something that simple.
Also like you were saying in another comment, bedrocks meant to be the perfect child, they aren’t implemented something like debug tools, we’re lucky to even have them on java.
The funniest thing about OOP's post is the fact that it's structured like a wikipedia article but all of the "works cited" are either youtube videos or social media posts. I don't know why people are trying to give attention to this because it's agonizingly obvious that OOP is a kid who definitely was trying to make a big deal about some small thing that was bugging them.
Seriously though, wtf happened there? That guy has 4 or 5 posts, all 4 years old I think, and only one is still standing.
Edit: and searching google says stuff like 'top result removed due to legal request' or something.
Sorry they can just ban single player worlds on Xbox? I swear this is literally just them doing illegal shit, same way Nintendo can ban you from offline games and brick your switch 2. If it's not illegal, it should be. And if it is, it should be better enforced
I think having to read terms of service & privacy policy is stupid because I don't care about most of it. I wish there was a way to find certain things, or a lack thereof, in the docs.
I get that there are business concerns but I do not see that hiding this from the community is good. Saying something as simple as:
We're committed to making Bedrock better and are constantly working to add new features and improve the game. Leaked builds of the game may have in development features that aren't ready for release or aren't the quality we're ready to show.
Maybe say something about wanting people to understand that things like development versions are kept private for a reason.
Mojang is sometimes really private and weird about things like this and Streisand effecting a community like this probably isn't good. Maybe this is just something done by Mojang/MS' legal without anyone else knowing, but it feels misguided.
Fun fact: near the end of 1.19's development cycle, the youtuber ElementX actually got access to one of the "Developer Mode" builds of the game. The most interesting thing (to me at least) was that the build featured a prototype version of the fireflies shown during Mincraft Live, meaning that the mob was scrapped possibly quite late in development.
1:thats not the ban/delete message under the post
2:it was deleted for SHARING PIRACY JUST ON THE FUCKING BODY TEXT
3:lowkey a nothingburger. mojang (owned by microsoft) is greedy and isn't giving people dev tools? your telling me MOJANG (owned by microsoft) is BAD or even LIKES MONEY and might be EXPLOITING THE DEVELOPING MINDS OF THE YOUNGLINGS?! But to get it working on a PC without issue? simple.
as for the Xbox situation, they dont BAN singleplayer worlds, they LITERALLY revoke access to a digital license when you are banned. They CAN do this to any account at all. its part of like every EULA ever, when you buy a game you are buying the rights to a license which permits access and this access/license can be revoked at any time for any reason. thats like the most common EULA.

Damn this needs to be way more up in the comments
This is really interesting. I wonder why Reddit had it removed.
Prolly bc he linked the dev build directly in the post
This is really long and I don't have the time/energy to read all of it. Can somebody give a tl;dr? Thanks

i couldn't access the page (error 429), could anyone summarize it?

Doesn't change them saying 'Debug features impossible' and then having debug features available to developers
If I was a mojang developer, I wouldn't hide anything unless mojang forced me to

For this post the bread is the cracked minecraft dev edition. I love piracy
Casually breaking an NDA….
