Because it pissed them off that they were ever so slightly inconvenienced to keep others safe so the only natural reaction they could think of was to slobber their spit all over the place because they knew the employees would have to clean it up.
It really made me want the reverse approach attempted just to see what would happen. Tell them to lick stuff and keep going out and not wear a mask so they can build immunity getting it. Probably would have kept them all home, they just do the opposite of whatever they're told. If the CDC came out and said "stop wearing red clothing because it'll kill you" they'd be cleaning out every red shirt they could find and wearing only red. Lemmings.
The best part of those tantrums is that, yes, a store has the right to ask you to mask up. The amendments of the Constitution only apply to the government, not private companies.
