I don't know what's worse: that a POS with potential access to card details is running over plain text HTTP (hello PCI), or that a POS with definitive access to health data is running over plain text HTTP?
Drogas la rebaja, afaik is not a dispensary for any EPS. It's just for out of pocket sales. If you buy an Rx only medication, they'll ask to see the printed prescription, it's not electronic like in the US.
VPN connection to central server, central server uses HTTPs out to the various card processors. They've been getting away with this bullshit for decades at this point.
VPN to central server according to other comments. That workaround allows parent company to only pay card processor for a single endpoint rather than paying the correct fees for each terminal
En muchas!!!... en especial en L.A. donde las farmacias terminaron siendo tiendas de conveniencia... puedes conseguir desde alcohol hasta productos de limpieza del hogar...

That the display is a widescreen driven with a 5:4 system resolution, thus it's all blurry and distorted. That drives me nuts.
4:3* The worst of display controllers will report 1024x768, 800x600, 848x480 and 640x480 in the EDID.

So it's just the financial side!
A lot of these POS systems use a VPN to connect back to some central server. It's a very outdated and BS way of doing things, but it's how they do it.
Depending on where the VPN termination occurs, that would still be a PCI violation, since card data must be encrypted everywhere

I hope it at least does smth like MobilityPrint where it encrypts the data before sending it 😳

Chips and snacks in pharmacy
That thing will probably outlast windows 15
with the way windows is heading it'll probably outlast 30
That Firefox ist old
Yeah, also that thing is using xmessage, that program was added to X11 in october 1988: https://www.x.org/wiki/X11R3/
I still use it sometimes though, I won't move to wayland until xscreensaver is fully working there.
There's a store in my city where the POS systems run XFCE
Jeez, this Ubuntu install looks ancient
That looks like old Ubuntu. It's still using Unity.
Why lays is called margarita?
I was genuinely thinking the same thing, probably a region change or something
It is
Colombia?
dammnn thats old ubuntu, 12.04/14.04?
That's roughly it. So oooold it's a security risk!
At the very least, I’m happy this pharmacy is running Linux. No need to deal with companies changing things with each update.
What might suck is if the security holes in older versions of Ubuntu are patched here or not…
Of course, it might not matter if this system is air-gapped and maybe doesn’t allow USB devices beyond a keyboard and mouse.Edit: Nevermind, there’s a browser in there… hope it’s patched at least.
The UI is from Firefox 57-88 so I'll assume the system haven't been patched in a while.
"let's cross this one off your list" my ass. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you need to get a license to use the operating system.
Holy fuck, that version of both Ubuntu and Firefox are older than me!
Are chips a new medicine?
what
Why there are potato chips in the pharmacy store?
I have been to an IND point in Amsterdam - they had Ubuntu on PCs, too!
I truly don't get it.
atleast it isnt windows
Since when were chips in a pharmacy...?
