Hey guys so i just wanted to ask you. I Read the manga i watched some yt videos about it , but the one question that im curious about is why people always say „ i hate punpun” „punpun should die” and i get why they say that , punpun is a terrible human but why ive seen almost no one talking about how punpun BECAME the way he is rn . He was made like this , it was happening slowly and slowly he was becoming this pos but he is the victim. let me know what u think I’m not a expert when it comes to this manga.
You can't justify the actions of certain people. Even if you understand where they all stem from, the best you can do is have some empathy for them (if you couldn't provide help or advice or guidance ofc, because everyone has problems of their own and as much as we wanna help each other we may fall short). You can't go around excusing the actions of all the horrible people out there just because you know their background or where they came from. At some point they become responsible for their actions and victims or not they get pretty much deserved hate. Not so lovely a situation but it is what it is I guess.
Thank you for listening to my TED talk lol
hating punpun is a completely valid and justified sentiment. trauma and mental illness can explain behavior, such as why punpun thinks the way he does, why his personality is built this way, and so on, but it by no means excuses it. you can sympathize with what he went through and for the things he didn’t deserve to face- society failed him, yet he is still responsible for his actions and conscious of the decisions he’s making. just because he was hurt doesn’t mean he can hurt others and not be held accountable or understandably hated for it. punpun is a victim AND an abuser. he is an example of how the abused become the abuser (this is coming from a mentally ill individual myself)
Punpun is a victim who continues the cycle of abuse and victimizes others. It's super sad, but ultimately Punpun's actions are his own
Because his mental illness and trauma is a reason and for an excuse
i think the statements that 'punpun himself is a victim of abuse' can co-exist with the statement 'punpun himself is also an abuser'.
Idk why this has to be said. I don’t think nobody said he wasn’t a victim but people are always bothered when they say it doesn’t excuse his abuse
The series is written so in depth about how our world is today. Most people that end up doing horrible things began as sweet little baby birds living their life confused. I love how Inio walks us through all aspects of Punpun's life, shows his weariness, depression, gluttony, jealousy, etc. A lot of people say they hate him but I think they're just the wrong audience with no empathy. Punpun was a product of society and some people can't accept that
I know he is a victim, and if he was growing up in a healthy environment he would end up as a good person, that's a real tragedy. With that knowledge, he is a terrible person as an adult... A lot of monsters become that way because of enduring abuse as children. Not all victims turn out the same... The manga is a terrifying portrait of an innocent child turning into a complete monster and you see exactly why and what made him. The moment he shifted for me was after he killed ayako mother's and decided not to call the police and get help, he was so desperate for feeling in control he basically stole her and controlled her life because he wanted her to need him and wouldn't leave him again in his mind. Her suicide was her ravage for him and the only solution she see possible, and her note , he still managed to forget her. He moved on without any knowledge of what he did to her, any remorse. He became a complete psychopath ... I hate his mother more, if it helps.. best and worst manga ever made. So angry lol
When I think of Punpun, I have fond memories of him. Mainly from when he was young and innocent and just learning about the world. His environment ruined him, and he did terrible and unforgivable things. It just makes me so sad that he ended up the way he did.
It's complex, it’s part of what makes it an interesting & well written story. Having followed Punpun through his life we get to see how he became they way he is. Even at the end of the story a part of me still feels sad that Punpun ended up the way he did because I know how he got there. It sadly happens in real life all the time too, victims of abuse become the abuser. Which does make the loose a lot of my sympathy both IRL and here. Nature or nurture. How much of our actions are our own free will or down to determinism. Punpun was a victim but I don't think he was stupid or insane. He knew right from wrong & ultimately chose the wrong path in his treatment of Aiko. Was he doomed to take this path though? A victim of fate.
