This is actually pretty cool. I had zero interest in Overwatch but I ended up playing during a free weekend in Nov 2016 and got hooked. The rest is history! I have thousands of hours and like 99% of all the skins.
My guildmaster in my WoW guild at the time was a Blizzard employee and added the whole officer team to his friends and family list. I’m glad he did cause it introduced me to what his been my favorite game for a large portion of my adult life.
I used to avoid betas because they feel like limited time trials.
I was into TF2 and knew about OW. A friend convinced me to try the open beta. I was hooked, it’s the only game I’ve preordered to this date. And maybe the only non-VR game I’ve ever paid full price ($40) for.
I miss those days, when the game was more about fun than competitiveness. I still remember convincing an entire team to go 6 Winstons on Volskaya and sweeping through the first point, until the enemy countered with 6 Bastions on B lmao
Ooooh. Was this the one where you started in a white room of just like five people? I can’t remember who was in there but Cass and Mercy, maybe Rein and Wid too?
There was a later one, more polished I think that’s where we played on Kings Row?
(This is totally from 10 year old memories so I could be way off! 😂)
I think you’re mixing up your memories of the betas with behind the scenes stuff from closed builds that was shown years down the line. This email was from the invite-only beta and was the first beta that any non-employee was allowed in and was fairly polished. I remember playing KR, Dorado, Hanamura, and Route 66 at least. I don’t remember the full map list thought lol
That’s probably why I could never find it! I tried like five years ago and couldn’t find any info on it. Has to be like 15 year old content by now. I wonder if I can find some now that I know what I’m looking for or if it’s lost to time. 😂

It has even more sentimental value then. You should print it out and frame it.
that's really sweet and a really cool story OP

Ow1 beta was truly a peak vibe in gaming history
The whole first year of OW full release too. I’ll cherish those memories

I too, remember being part of the Onlywatch beta access.
Beta was perfect Overwatch. Then they turned it into FPS WoW. Should have known better when they fumbled heroes of the storm.
Oh gosh tbt I should try to go find my email too lol
I was so excited to try Blizzard’s FPS; and Overwatch was more than I was expecting. A love story of almost 10 years now - going strong!
Cool story bro, thanks for sharing
Let people have fun.
