For anyone who hasn't given 6v6 a real chance yet, I highly recommend playing it more. Up until 2 seasons ago I was just a 5v5 grinder but I decided to finally give 6v6 a real chance and I have been enjoying it a ton. Season 18 and 19 I each played nearly 300 games and it feels so much more coordinated and fun. If you're feeling burned out from 5v5, especially on tank, maybe give it a chance. As long as you're willing to flex and keep a good mental you can win a lot of games.

  • 6v6 is the only reason I came back to OW. Playing tank in 5v5 literally made me stop playing the game

Same. I only play 6v6 now for that same reason.

I still play but I used to main tank and now I've switched to dmg and supp.

Same here, tank in 5v5 was just pure suffering. Getting focused by literally everyone while your team runs around like headless chickens was not it. At least in 6v6 you got someone to share the pain with lmao

Yep, basically everyone I know who still plays, plays only Stadium, hide and seek, or 6 vs 6 as a last resort and straight up never plays 5 vs 5

  • As a support and mystery heros main I’ll get a random itch to be tank once in a blue moon and I’ll jump in a 6v6. That way if my tank play isn’t good my team isn’t totally fucked.

That being said I do enjoy 6v6 a hell of a lot.

  • I would I just hate open queue. I was an off tank player but 1 tank 4 dps 1 support games feel fucking ass to me. I know why they can’t implement role queue in 6v6 but I don’t think I’ll enjoy it till they do

Eh it’s not usually like that for me. Sure occasionally I get some off the wall teams, but I’d say it’s about 10-20% of the time. I just use the time to practice new heroes if that happens.

    why cant they?

Queue times for 2-2-2 role queue was so bad in Overwatch 1 that they moved to 1-2-2 for Overwatch 2. Not enough people wanted to play tank. Meaning people queued for support and dps had to wait ages to find games. They remedied that by only having 1 tank.

oh yeah, ty, i remember now. but why cant they just let you pick between open or role queue for 6v6 instead of making it one or the other? is it cuz they can’t keep any modes for some reason that have poor queue times?

I guess they just don’t want yet another mode to split the player base. We already have 5v5 role queue. 6v6 open queue. And stadium. All with quick play and comp. And to a lesser extent mystery heroes and the arcade modes.

Because role queue takes 20 to 30 minutes to find a game. It won't happen.

99% of my games in 6v6 are 2-2-2.

Did you know 95% of stats are made up?

    You know what I meant

yeah absolutely, and this is always the worst possible comp ever as well.

That almost never happens. What does happen is 3 support and 1 DPS or sometimes 1 tank.

  • 6v6 is very fun. I much prefer it over 5v5 other than the fact that it is open queue. I understand the reasoning behind why it isn’t role queue but for me that’s all I can play ranked wise

  • Same, I started in OW2 and didn't think I'd even like 6v6. Boy was I wrong, it's the only version I play since then.

  • Yeah, 6v6 is a blast.

  • I've played 6v6 pretty much exclusively since they brought it back, and when I play 5v5 now the game feels way more empty, in a bad way.

  • Did for many years, always wished they would make a 5v5 mode. I am very happy now, and have been ever since the switch. I can understand people prefer 6v6, but I prefer 5v5 and I think a large amount of often silent members of the community think the same, but who knows..

Idk about silent I’m pretty sure 5v5 is the more popular mode.

It's more that you see a lot of post, albeit less now, about how 6v6 was better. Which I mean, its definitely fair to feel that way, and to discuss it. It's just that for obvious reasons you seldom se praise for 5v5.

Given that we are staying with 5v5 after a long time with 6v6, and after recent 6v6 test, it seems to me that the "silent" majority prefers 5v5 over 6v6.

Oh yea that’s true for most things on the internet tbh. People that are enjoying stuff don’t have any need to go make posts about how they’re enjoying it. I made a post about why competitive is a better mode for all the people that complain about quality of quick play games. I got like 300 comments a lot of them whining about how people throw in QP, but about 1500 upvotes agreeing w the post 🤷

I think you seldom see praise for 5v5 because it's the default - the people who like 5v5 are in the position of strength. It's considered the main mode, it has the most players, it is the main target of balancing and game updates. The 6v6 folks feel the need to justify their mode more, so they end up being more loud and defensive. That's why the 5v5s end up being the quieter majority.

Personally I think people should just play what they want and not get so tribalistic about 5v5 vs 6v6, but it's not really the nature of Reddit. I can understand though that some 6v6ers want to gain more and more traction for the mode so that it can supplant 5v5 as the main mode, but there is room for both clearly.

Because 5v5 has been the default for years, kinda happens when you forcefully alter a game and refuse to change it back.

Now Quick play and Comp are 5v5 by default and 6v6 couldn't compete with its own role queue.

The majority of players that play now never played overwatch 1 and 5v5 is how they learned playing the game so it makes sense the majority wants to play 5v5. Ow2 was built around 5v5 so the devs would never give 6v6 a fair shot.

I don't know how you come to that conclusion honestly. How can you tell the majority of OverWatch 2 players never played OverWatch 1? There's no numbers or data that tracks that.

I've been playing OW since launch. After having tried 6v6 again I still prefer 5v5.

Conversely, I never played OW 1 and stopped playing OW 2 soon after release because it bored me. Came back to see what the 6v6 had to offer and have been playing that regularly since.

Same here. Although im still giving this season to 6v6. I’m going back to 5v5 next season.

There is a pretty big vibe difference between the two. 5v5 feels more ‘tactical team shooter’ oriented and 6v6 feels more ‘quirky hero shooter but you can lock in’.

If I play 5v5 I have to think hard about where I want to be and when to engage. In 6v6 there’s usually an obvious place to be but resource management is more difficult.

It’s not so much about popularity as what the devs think works - 6v6 has queue time issues they were never able to solve before changing to 5v5. Those issues are still there in 6v6, hence open queue being the only option and not role queue in 6v6. 5v5 also addresses many issues high tier players had, while 6v6 addresses all the issues lower tier players and tank players have. So the current state of the game is their best compromise.

silent because some 6v6ers are pretty vocally aggressive about other preference in video game mode, and some weirdo individuals even resorts to insults

This goes both ways, the number of times i’ve been randomly insulted and downvoted into double digits for preferring 6v6 in this sub is off the charts.

I've seen some people imply a preference for 6v6 is due to inferior intelligence. Some people just place a weird amount of ego in their preferred videogame mode.

Lol, that is bizarre. I like 5v5 when I'm solo queueing but 6v6 with my stack. If only because we can control the comp to an extent.

It's the default mode and thr pro mode, so it's more competitive, so you get better matchmaking and better queue times. But when it's an evenly matched game 6v6 is more fun imo.

In fairness, the version of 6v6 that they keep in circulation doesn’t have role lock, so it’s too easy for games to end up unbalanced in terms of team comp (4 dps 1 tank 1 support anyone?)

I really think 6v6 would be more popular if it wasn’t strictly open queue. And it’s not even really open queue cuz they still lock you out at 2 tanks so GOATS isn’t an option either

5v5 is only more popular cuz its the main mode tho, if the devs made 6v6 the main mode and actually tried to balance it it would be great

I highly prefer 5v5, and I have never spoken about it out loud until this moment.

A very vocal chunk of the community despises that some people prefer it. I don't really want to interact with them, so I stay silent.

I think both modes have their pros and cons and both can and should exist, I just think a lot of players have written 6v6 off as another casual mode like comp mystery heroes and wanted to just give another perspective

I think it always will be unless it has the majority of the player base, not enough people play to make it truly competitive unless you're in the top ranks and sit in long queues. Ranks are inflated as is and then the matchmaker constantly puts together wide matches on top of that.

But I still agree with you that it's a fun mode and others should give it a chance

I like going into every game knowing we will get a complete and even composition. Everything else is just skill. The amount of games I get where I’m the only tank or healer with 4-5 orher DPS is just not fun

I feel like my 6v6 games are the opposite. Everyone wants to play support lol

I played ow1 6v6 since beta, and I quit the game. It just wasn't fun, 6v6 slows the game a ton and turns it into an attrition war.

I like 5v5 because it is faster, more intense, you can actually make plays and elims matter a whole of a lot more than in 6v6. 6v6 is numbing to me.

And I think that's why some people prefer 6v6, because you can autopilot and turn your brain off.

High GM 5v5 and Champ 6v6 here - thats literally not true. The only time 6v6 genuinely sucks is when a team goes double shield (specifically orisa shield perk + another shield tank) but atm. with gigabuffed bastion even that isnt such a problem anymore.

5v5 you literally cant make plays unless youre like a widow shooting from another map. Any remotely competent 5v5 tank realizes quickly "this guy is carrying, lets make him not play anymore" - even if he is actually worse than you he can easily deny all you do. In 6v6 you cant just get shutdown by a single guy the entire game, it requires that guy to actually be better than you or him coordinating with another player.

Bullshit nobody was asking for 5v5 I find this REAL hard to believe 😭

Actually, the vast majority of players BEGGED the devs to keep 6v6, myself included. Overwatch hasn't been the same since 5v5... I miss my Reinhardt...

Da fuq? Rein is still in the game and even has top 3 win rate in masters 5v5

  • I have been playing 6v6 pretty much since release and I went to 5v5 this season and it is struggling I don't know how people are playing this mode.

What do you mean by “it’s struggling”? It’s the most played game mode and the default.

    Maybe "it's a struggle"?

The only thing that feels worse in 6v6 is trying to main tank without your team backing you up. Otherwise it’s better in every way.

If your team is backing you up it feels better than 5v5 too.

I feel like 5v5 can be a blast if your tank is good and people are in vc, but the fun is totally reliant on the tank and support they get

5s is definitely better in high rank PC comp, you have more agency, most players know what they are doing, and players are on comms more regularly. The same reason most top 500 streamers never touch 6v6.

Nah man 5v5 you always get a random DPS that goes 4-12 and you can't possibly contribute enough to offset the dead weight. Having an unproductive ally in 6v6 isnt a total death sentence.

Some big names streamers that play a lot of 6v6 : Cyx, samito, durpee, tr33, yeattle, and a few others... most of these probably like a lot of us, miss overwatch 1 6v6 format, and prefer the teamplay of 6v6, so no, there definitely still are streamers that play 6v6 almost exclusively

What are you smoking ive been T500 in every role 5v5 multiple times and you get 1 guy actually in comms about every 20 games. The rest of the time people only insult each other.

Meanwhile 6v6 has people in comms about every 3-4 games. And people in high ranks are often even "nice" since they realized beeing nice actually results in more people following your suggestion on what to play.

I guarantee you top 500 streamers don't touch 6v6 because queue times would be fucked.

Also true. As a champ in 6v6 I sometimes have 1 hour+ queues.

That’s it - if the tank is good you’ll have a better game. Where as if you have a bad one it affects the whole team and your enjoyment of the game. If you’ve got a bad tank in 6v6 you can always bust out another one and help.

Dude fucking right??? I decided to grind all my placements for 5v5 this past week after exclusively playing 6v6 since it dropped. Never. Again.

That shit feels HORRIBLE. I finished my DPS and inly made it halfway through supports. Maybe its from being predicted in masters but I genuinely did not have a good time at all.

  • I very much rather play 6v6 but I'm kinda tired of playing 5 DPS 1 support against 2 tanks 3 supports because people are too stubborn to switch.

If Blizzard ever brought back role queue to 6v6 I don't think I'd ever play 5v5 again.

Same. After playing Rivals for quite a while, the very idea of open queue just makes me gag. I would exclusively play 6v6 role queue.

High rank in 6v6 is genuinely pretty enjoyable because people do switch.

High ranks in 5v5 is miserable because people often get there by abusing the hell out of specific heroes.

If you can get to gm+ in 6v6 most games get better (ive seen people who are plat in 5v5 get there so its not that hard)

  • I recently started playing 6v6 and actually like it, a lot. Even grinded a bit to Dia in comp!

  • It's good, the problem is everyone locks on dps

Luckily I main support and flex to tank when needed but I know this can be a problem. Just remember that the enemy will have just as many instalock dps (on average)

It's so annoying that so many games are decided by who gets enough shitheads that refuse to play anything but their dps main to lose.

  • Lack of role queue is a deal breaker for me.

  • It's the best! Better than all the rest.

  • Tank on 6v6 is so much more fun

Yes I used to play a bunch of tank in ow1 but I hate the pressure and focus u get in 5v5 and haven't even placed my tank this year. I do play a bunch of tank in 6v6 though

Being the off tank is my most fun role and it does not exsist in 5v5. I like leading a flank as a tank instead of just hoping my DPS do it for me

True, and a lot of tanks feel weird forced into the "main" tank role, most egregious of which probably being hog

  • I had enough 6v6 OQ for a lifetime when it was the only option for the game for the first few years.

    You didn't love goats?

I just don't love not knowing if I'll have a team comp or not every game.  That extra RNG factor from not limiting what roles people are playing fucks with the matchmaker too much, it's already got a hard job without having to worry about throwing 6 DPS players on one team.

  • I find playing support too boring in 6v6 - there's too much healbotting you have to do and you don't have the same opportunities to make plays and dps. As an ana main, I like the balance you have to strike in 5v5 between healing and making plays.

Really eh? I feel the exact opposite. I play overwatch because it has the holy Trinity and I like actually healing. 5v5 I'm like 30% DPS. And the tank is also like 30% DPS. It kills the holy Trinity. It feels like I might as well be playing COD where there's no roles.

I get bored doing the same thing over and over, especially when on some heroes (like Kiriko), that thing doesn’t feel especially good or responsive. Kiriko’s kunais make that hero fun imo. Dynamic gameplay is my jam, which is part of why I like support in the first place.

Even on Ana, it’s much harder to land shots on the enemy and it always feels good to win duels. I enjoy healing well enough on her but the balance is what I want. Ana specifically is so much worse if you don’t dps some and don’t use nades offensively - even in 6v6, this is true.

If all I do is heal then I just automatically lose the games where my dps are bad or I’m not being very useful when we have hog/weaver or something and don’t need that much more healing. I’m very glad the game is less strict about roles than you describe - I wouldn’t play a game that was as simple and repetitive as that.

Also I’m probably more like 40-50% dps most games - it is not uncommon for me to have as much damage as healing, but it really depends on who my other support is. I enjoy having someone like lifeweaver who doesn’t mind healbotting so that I can dps more.

    That's why I zen in 6v6. Pseudo DPS 😈

  • Still the same problem as old overwatch before role queue came. Nobody wants to play tank. Nearly every game end up in 4 or 5 DPS.

Idk if your playing QP or what but ive had the exact opposite experience. Ive had two tanks both teams almost every single game and more often than not the instalockers are tanks

In my experience, everyone seems to instalock support over the other roles.

I find myself having three of them on my team rather often in 6v6.

This is true especially at plat and higher, but usually it ends up 2-2-2, or you have 3 supports and 1 DPS and it works OK.

I think this varies a lot by rank. Higher ranks = more tank players in 6v6

I've climbed from bronze 1 to platinum 5 in 6v6 and 99% of my games have been 2-2-2.

Same, I played a bunch on ketamine and got knocked from diamond to silver and every rank almost always had 2 tanks. At higher ranks there's a overabundance of supports, but not dps's like everyone claims.

The internet has joked so much about ketamine I can't tell if this is serious or not.

6v6 completely reignited my passion for tank. So many of the new tanks since OW2 release are fun af in 6v6. JQ, Ram even Mauga is fun af with another tank. Omg and ball. Ball just doesn't work in 5v5.

Yeah al lot of tank mains just went there

This hasn't been my experience at all. If anything I think a lot of tank players go to 6v6 because it just feels better having a cotank

Agree. I will only queue tank in 5s for challenges (especially now when we get cookies for it).

But playing Haz with a Sig backing me up is amazing.

I don’t really have this problems up in masters to Gm but even the games I do have to solo tank, most of the time it isn’t that bad as long as the rest of the team is doing good. I actually kinda like the added pressure sometimes.

In comp it's very rarely the issue, in QP who cares

I guess it depends the rank. I've played in gold plat and rarely had good quality games.

In diamond/masters I solo tank maybe every 10 games and even that is fun

nah stop lying that stuff is cancer you're just playing 5v5 tank with more people shooting at you and heavily nerfed stats

And this “cancer” is still better than 5v5 lmfao

nah bro it's just way more cancer you litterally just can't do anything cause you got no health and no help you just hope your team is better

still very much an issue in comp. i’m diamond 4 6v6 and id say 30% of my games people are fighting about who has to play tank and we end up with 1 tank or 1 support, even though we can clearly see their most played hero is rein lol. i hate people that won’t swap, but i much prefer 6v6

We are living in different worlds bc i saw 2-2-2 all throughout diamond-masters. Im talking like 20-30% of my games i want to tank i cant bc theres two instalocked already. Maybe its a region or time thing?

could be, but i’ve also never been close to masters, peaked at diamond 3 lol, usually play high plat or low diamond so i assume the higher you get the better, im not sure about the regions i play in eu servers but i usually play at all hours of the day. i do find later at night it tends to be more balanced though

I guess that depends on the rank because I'm oscillating between gold and plat and at least 1 out of 5 games I get 1 tank or 0 tanks.

Its strange, I hear a lot of complaints that their 6v6 experience is worsened by open queue. It's just my experience against theirs, but I cant even remember the last time I did 6v6 Ranked and we got no tank or too many of one role. I'm a Tank main and 6v6 is actually how I get to play Support more often than not with quicker queues because people usually pick up the Tanks before I do. I guess I'm just getting lucky in these low Diamond games.

Yup, 6v6 role queue was briefly brought back and it felt so so nice but now we only have 5v5 rq and 6v6 open queue sadly which is what it is. I still play 6v6 when my party is too big but I really do miss rq 6v6 even though I know we’ll never get it back.

tbh it's feels really like blizzard needs to make up their mind. it's 6v6, ok it sucks let make role queue, oh wait OW2 is 5v5, but oh let's bring back open queue, and last let's make it now 6v6 open queue with limited tank but not rest. like please be assertive.

personally I prefer 6v6 as tank, for other roles I don't mind much.

3 or more DPS virtually never happens. Sometimes 3 supports happen, but not that often and half the time it's perfectly fine.

  • I really like 6v6 and I played it extensively earlier this year when it came into competitive but my big issue with it is the lack of role queue and that’s what made me stop playing it as much.

I kept getting weird team comps and if there wasn’t a second tank people would refuse to tank as the reason they’re there in the first place is to escape the solo tank experience.

If they added role queue i’d be running back for sure as it’s a lot of fun when it’s got the proper structure and you know you’re guaranteed to have 2-2-2 every time without fail !

I been yelling for a damn role queue.

  • 6v6 is why I came back. I didn’t enjoy 5v5 at all so I dropped the game when they made the switch. Now, I pretty much exclusively play 6v6 except when I play Stadium.

  • It's always hilarious seeing the pro 6v6 comments getting downvoted. For being the "silent majority" who are enjoying 5v5 Overwatch and complain about pro 6v6ers, ya'll are pretty involved on downvoting and shutting down our perspectives.

  • Never touch 5v5 unless stadium or comp for placement.

    Couldn't be happier.

  • The sequel went to 5v5 and nearly killed the game for good.

I assure you, most people prefer 6v6. Don’t let Reddit fool you.

  • I play 6v6 exclusively now.

    Can't go back to 5v5.

Totally understandable, I think especially with friends 6v6 becomes super fun

  • Playing tank in 6v6 > 5v5

    Playing support in 5v5 > 6v6

    Playing tank in 6v6 > 5v5

I play 6v6 when I'm queue'd with my friends and like 80-90% of my games I'm still solo tanking and have either 3 supports and no damage pressure on tanks, or 3 dps who cant kill anything.

Yeah I can buy this, I hate playing support in 6v6 because I'm forced to healbot so much. It's just not nearly as interesting or dynamic. I like having to strike the balance between healing and making plays in 5v5.

I think if you play any kind of dpsey support like Kiri, Ana, Bap, or Moira, 5v5 is hugely more fun. Maybe not if you play Zen or Illari, because your healing is less involved so you have more time to do other things.

Ehh, even as Zen I find myself having to move my orb around a lot. Maybe it's just the MMR I'm in, but there's a lot of chip damage people take just from standing in the open.

I'll be honest, even though I've played since launch, I can never go back to 6v6 as a Rein player. I loved old Rein combos back in the day, but now 6v6 feels like shieldbotting. I love 5v5 Rein and getting to feel way more impactful. I'm sure it's better with a stack, so you can get off tanks, but I usually only solo queue, and that ends up with one healer and 4 ps.

  • 5v5 is awful and as soon as 6v6 became available again it’s all I play

  • I love 6v6, but I haven’t been able to get out of silver for some time now. The majority of my team comps are a variety where there’s only one tank, that’s usually me who isn’t a tank main, and one person complaining that we need another tank. I usually tell people to let me know they want me off tank, which I’m more than happy to do, even if that results in our team having no tank. For drives, I had to play mostly 5v5 matches to get them done, which sucks. However, I’m getting better at playing Orisa because I’m enjoying her mythic weapon.

  • I play it sometimes. I do genuinely think 2 tanks is better than one.

However I really don't like open queue. I've had way too many games where we wind up with zero tanks because a lot of players have Main Character Syndrome. Nevermind the games where I'm the only support...

  • All i need is 6v6 role queue

  • I just wish it was role queue. I understand queue times would be a problem but I hate open queue.

  • This is the part where Overwatch Devs man up and force Role Queue on 6v6, too.

Open queue is hot fucking garbage I can't with it man. Queuing me up with 4 other Support mains is the most stupid fucking thing in the entire ranked system man.

At least in Role Queue people play who are predicted to be around my skill level on their chosen role. In 6v6 it's likely I'm playing with someone rated the same as me but playing a role they never touched in their life before because the devs decided that a 6 Supp mains comp into a balanced 2 tank 2 dps 2 supp enemy team is fair and good.

  • As a hamster main, 6v6 was a very welcome return

  • It's fun .....but man I hate when like 3 or 4 sups or dps are like matched together and no one wants to compromise and play smth else

  • 6v6 was definitely less coordinated than 5v5 but it made for funner matches. I refuse to tank in 5v5 and I always loved playing the tank characters.

  • 6v6 is the only thing that makes OW enjoyable

  • 6v6 would be fun with role queue.

They tried it. It was called 6v6 min one per role max 2 tanks. It was beautiful and they brushed it under the rug when people had such a positive reception to it. I'm not sure why they did. The way they made it disappear was akin to what happened to Nikolai Tesla's work after World War II

They actually did it months before that too, but it was true 2-2-2 Role Queue, and it was genuinely the most balanced Overwatch had ever been. It was a different flavor of fun compared to the chaotic good that came with perks. I would be so happy if they even brought it back for just a month per year. These were the patch notes for it if you were curious:
    https://overwatch.blizzard.com/en-us/news/patch-notes/live/2024/12/#patch-2024-12-17

I imagine queue times were not optimal, and they didn't want to split the players between another mode, unfortunately.

6v6 truthers are always a riot.

  • The game of overwatch actually doesnt happen in 5v5.

  • No, no I don’t think I will

  • There has been a lot of 6v6 glazing on this sub recently

They’re the most vocal minority in the game and it is so tiring to have to constantly listen to it

That minority has more players than stadium yet we only get 1 patch every half year while stadium gets one every 5 seconds.

Though now that I think about it the current balacing team has no clue what they are doing so probably better to leave 6v6 alone instead of ruining it.

  • 6v6 is more team dependent and allows less individual agency. Too much hyper focus on synergies that if your team doesn't have 2 tanks with synergy you will lose. I've come to personally like 5v5 more than 6v6 at this point, especially with the introduction of the ow2 characters. In ow1 I liked playing support in 6v6 role queue, in ow2 it's miserable having to watch your rein one trick try to 1v6 and none of your 4 dps players wanna swap until there is 30 seconds left and the enemy team has ults.

  • Yeah but I cant any do my role q daily/weekly in 6v6

  • I did today for the daily challenge. Since I've been playing tank for weeks now I picked support heroes and every game my team was lucky to have a single tank while the enemy had two. Always the same when I try 6v6, if I'm not tank then nobody is.

  • Support main lol. I have and it genuinely might actually be the worst mode on this game imo. I did not play OW1 either so I have no nostalgia for it not my thing I guess.

  • 2v2v2 Role Queue was my favourite mode in game. If they brought that back, I’d be in 6v6 full time.

But 6v6 open queue? As a tank main? Nnnnaaahhhh

  • I've played 6v6 the past couple of days for the daily challenges (gotta get those loot boxes). As a tank player, 5v5 felt so much better I can't lie. Most of my matches I've either been *actually* solo tanking or effectively solo tanking (because the second tank is clearly filling on a role they don't play just so we can have 2-2-2- instead of playing a character they're actually good at).

Don't get me wrong: I've been a tank main since 2016, I'll always have fun with the role. But now I've been given the crack that is the 5v5 tank experience, I don't want to go back.

  • Ow1 head here. 6v6 is awful and switching to 5v5 is the best thing that ever happened to the game. In 5v5 you simply are rewarded more for playing better and punished more for playing worse. In 6v6 you're part of a shitty hive mind that punishes individual actions. 6v6 can have double shield comps which was fucking awful too.

  • 6 v 6 is fun . I just wish it had role lock . If it did, I'd switch over from 5v5.

  • Nah, 5v5 is more fun for me.

  • Played 6v6 during its time, but I actually prefer the pace of 5v5 and not slogging through two shields or tanks. Or the famous Hog and Ball torture.

  • Especially if youre flexible and can play multiple roles if youre a one trick I would not recommend this mode

  • 6v6 no role queue is a hard pass for me. 5v5 with my friends or stadium is way more fun for me personally.

  • Didn’t the tanks kinda get rebalanced for 5v5 though? Are they different in 6v6? I do kinda miss running off tank zarya/dva/ball

Mostly, tanks get extra health in 5v5. Their passive also reduces headshot damage, but not in 6v6.

In 5v5 Zarya can use both her bubbles on herself or on allies, as she pleases.

  • I play both modes regularly. 5v5 is of course more balanced as the hero roster has been designed for 5v5. However, tank play in 6v6 is a lot more dynamic while the team compositions are a lot more creative and fun.

The issue with 6v6 is that tanking becomes significantly less impactful as you climb due to the high burst/aoe healing and escape options of the current support roster. So players naturally gravitate towards tanks with higher kill potential like hog and zar, basically the same issue as OW1. Playing lower damage tanks in masters+ is just hoping your team is good.

6v6 OQ will never be well balanced and that’s ok, the current state of the mode is still pretty solid all things considered. But it’s not that ideal future version of the original OW1 that a lot of people would like to see. For that, you would need to rework a lot of supports and (imo) get rid of roles entirely.

  • Running tank duos with a friend is so much fun. But it is significantly less fun when queuing by myself

  • Playing the other game for awhile made me realize how much I missed the flexibility of it. I only play 5v5 now because they won't stop giving me dailies for it.

  • I did, hated it for the same reasons that made me stop playing OW1 the first time around

  • If the queue times weren't 25+ minutes long, maybe.

  • I love 6v6 and play it most of the time. Only thing that bugs me is that every game has a bastion and most have a junkrat. Just high damage spam behind 2 tanks

  • 6v6 is fun. But the real problem is that none of my friends want to play 6v6.

  • I play 6v6 occasionally when I want to play tank and I enjoy it, its nice not being the only person shot at all the time lol. However some characters need some serious balancing imo. For example Hanzo in 6v6 is absolutely busted. The lower tank health pool let's him absolutely melt you and charge ult instantly. Baptist is also crazy good with his area healing and ult charge. Zarya for tanks is also ridiculous, especially when paired with rein or sigma. If you think counterswapping is bad 5v5 it is near impossible to win in 6v6 if you dont.

  • I've constantly tried it, solo or with friends and I've never liked 6v6. On tank I feel like I have less urgency because I'm not the one dictating the flow of the match because I pretty much only play off tanks except for Winston. On dps, unless the team is running a full dive comp, I feel like I have 0 space to operate anywhere without a Dva being up my ass the entire game. On support it was whatever, it felt no different than 5v5 except I off angled a bit less.

  • I played 2 games of 6v6 one when it first came back and another with a friend. Both were fine but I just enjoy 5v5 more. The second game with the homie was better because we both played tank but the other game I wanna say it was a solo tank. I’m not a fan of open queue much though.

  • 6v6 is too chaotic and doesn't reward smart gameplay.

  • Nah fr, im gm support, i just play support, i try play open q for the first time....i was gold 1....then derank on silver 1, ON THAT RANK NO1 PLAY TANK, NO1 PLAY SUPPORT, IF THEY PLAY SUPPORT THEY DNT HEAL, is hell asf, until diamond i think is hell

  • Burned out as a tank? Give it a chance? Bro you gotta be kidding, most 6v6 games are a shitshow of like 3-4 people on snipers, one lucio player, and you. So you know who has to play tank every game.

And don't get me started on the quality of matches, you can easily go from bronze to masters players in one sit. It's just a worse qp, and something really subjective - but in my opinion, 6v6 players are just worse. They don't take the game as seriously as 5v5 players and the skill difference is just so painfully obvious. People lock in 5v5 while in 6v6 they just grief because it is clear it is not "the main mode" so they treat it like arcade.

Obv I only mean 6v6 comp and I only mean my shit ass loser rank (well, it is basically 5 full ranks in 6v6 because of the matchmaking lol) so I am glad top 500 are having fun, goofing around in 6v6 qp tho is fine, and I really enjoy it.

  • I find it fun too but sadly also . It’s so annoying to try and carry as tank on it especially facing strong back lines like zen- Ana .

People mostly play ball so I’m the one most likely on tank that pushes point .

Even talking about the awful 4 dps teams / 1 tank mercy comps .

  • I don't like playing into 3 supports. That's my only real issue with the mod. And a bit less fps (potato PC)

  • Y'all gotta give stadium quick play a try too. It's so nice to be able to counter build or just try new stuff. The games are only lopsided once in a while.

Some builds really show up after 2/3 rounds so a 0/2 isn't a sure loss either. Been a ton of fun.

If they ever bring third person to regular quick play m gonna play way more and buy way more skins

edit: The modes constantly getting updated, so builds that feel bad now wont later. So dont be discouraged by a bad game. The devs are treating the mode really well so i hope more people give it a shot. Quickplay feels way better than competitive.

  • I never understood why 6s was taken out in the first place, still holding out for when Blizzard grows a pair and gives us 12v12

  • Yeah I have way more fun over there these days - it’s not quite OW1 but the games definitely feel better with 6. Maybe that’s because I have played since launch and I’m nostalgic or what but the tank experience especially is way more fun over there.

  • No thank you. I like 5v5 so much

  • For me it’s the opposite, I’d rather tank in 5v5 where it feels like my plays matter more and i have more of an impact on the match. Also if you’re playing 6v6 qp most games and up with 3-4dps and I’m solo tanking lmao

6v6 comp can be pretty fun, but again I’d rather just solo tank in 5v5

I hear this a lot from my tank friends but then I play some games of 6v6 and then some games of 5v5 and they all pretty quickly told me that 5v5 actually sucks just as much as a tank too. Mostly because youre at the mercy of them not having tank busters to play the game in 5v5. Tank busters in 6v6 arent as bad. (This is in high GM RQ 5v5 and Champ OQ 6v6)

  • I did try it. Didn't like it at all. But if you enjoy it,that's all that matters. I stick to the one mode I like.

  • I played it. It was shit

  • No thanks, I have zero interest in 6v6.

  • No, it's an inferior way of playing the game. Open queue is cancer.

  • I would play 6v6 but people go 4 dps 1 supp etc so 6v6 is a no go for me.

  • There is way more stress on healers in 5v5 too

Yes exactly because u have no second tank to peel for you

I mean the second tank on their side also gets to attack you, and especially if it's a dive tank that can be a lot more pressure on you. At least in 5v5, if they have a dive tank then their support/dpses are more vulnerable to attack from your side, but that's not really the case when they also have a main tank in 6v6.

I think support is way more stressful in 6v6 personally.

  • I honestly have no idea how people play 5v5. It's where the games disgustingly unbalanced meta shows its ugly head.

Good luck ever playing Winston into Hog, or Hog into Sig, or Rein Into Sig.

It's just awful. Also a good widow just owns the game if your tank is bad.

Like the vast majority of people’s complaints with the game get solved with both weaker individual tanks instead of a single raid boss tank and the addition of an off tank to help control space and contest/peel for things a single tank just can’t contest/peel for as easily. But people really do like 5v5 for the reason the team went 5v5 and that’s it’s more action oriented for DPS/supports and more accessible for players who don’t have the best positioning

winston is like cheeks in 6v6

  • I'm convinced 5v5 players are just very low iq
