pretty sure these are early fire extinguishers, theres some chemical reaction that eats all the o2 in the room and puts out the fire when the fluid inside is released
They're antique fire extinguishers. Many of these contained dangerous chemicals.
Some are designed to be thrown at a fire causing them to break and release the contents to extinguish it, but others are designed to break when a fire causes them to heat up
If the chemicals were released it would be dangerous and probably expensive to clean up properly. I think most of the chemicals are carcinogenic (causing cancer) but someone else might be able to elaborate more.
I looked it up and I guess those brass ones can use a mix of an acid (often sulfuric acid) with a bicarbonate of soda solution which generates a large amount of carbon dioxide
So that reaction would react with and displace oxygen if I understand correctly
Chemical fire extinguisher devices, can be thrown directly onto the fire or a spring punch system activated by heat breaks the glass. The problem is that the oldest ones produced lethal gas while reacting with the fire. So basically if those fell or were otherwise activated, they might turn the room into an oversized bug killing jar.

Yeah, I read about a group, who was playing toss with a fire grenade. Fortunately, it wasn’t dropped. But everyone assumed it only had water in it. Then they posted a picture on Reddit and discovered how close they all came to dying right where they stood.
Especially because there were people in the comments, telling them “drink it!” or assuming that since it didn’t have warnings on it, that it was safe to handle. Someone even suggested breaking it open. I’m glad people warned them before they actually died.
Posts must include a person INTENTIONALLY and IGNORANTLY interacting with a deadly/harmful subject.
It’s not deadly unless you let it out
I asked the guy "aren't these illegal to own now"? His response was "no, broke one in here once. That was a mess" 0_0
No clue what I'm looking at here. Context? Some kind of torches??

oh… fun!
i mean, its sick in theory
Im no theorologist so i will take you at your word.
They’re filled with carbon tetrachloride, iirc. They put out a fire with liquid cancer.
"Would you rather.."
Oh if it’s liquid then no thank you.
Cancer smoothie?:
Cancer popsicle perhaps?
Only if it’s chunky.
Wow, that's fucking wild. Thanks!

Yeah someone did say that. Someone else said they're designed to suck the oxygen from the air.
I've never heard that second one.
Yeah sounds a bit far fetched for what it appears to be. But hey what do I know haha

Interesting for sure!!

Fire suppression devices?
I’ll never understand why people post shit with zero context…🤷♂️🤦♂️
Esoteric nonsense will take over and it'll be like trying to read ancient forgotten toungues
It’s giving the Lazarus machine from Casper
Why can't people say "vibes" anymore?
Vibes
That was exactly my first thought
