How the hell did they think they're even going to pull this? Were they seriously going to climb 40' up that tree with a chainsaw if Reddit didn't tell them "No"? What was the plan to keep the falling branches off the power lines?
No they won't lol. I've lived in my house for five years since the tree was full grown and it's been in the lines the whole time despite multiple calls to the utility provider.
Depends on the utility company and which side of the transformer the wires are on. They won't cut branches near your service wires, but they will cut branches near their distribution lines

The plan was "I want it to work so it will work".
Same plan as the toddler who helps his dad fix the car by banging on it with a plastic hammer.
If you scroll the comments to the bottom, they came back to claim they successfully "cut brances." I would love to see a video of that.
Branches are cut, but my power is out
They’re asking experts if it’s okay. They’re not arguing with them about it.
This doesn’t fit.
From original thread. OP's comment "i cut branches by myself safely"
Do it.
Stay 15’ away. Electric utility will trim the trees. Do not try. Please do not try

Holy shit they claim to have done it.
I see no problem I cut branch’s near power lines all the time I’m also in a insulated bucket wearing rubber gloves but you can take your chances
