• Proud of it and I will do at again - that orange cat

    5 Star Help review

    Ok I love this 😂

Obviously, it's his love language 🥰

  • He looks so innocent🤣

He definitely is, we know only the human's side of the story, and humans are treacherous creatures who never feed cats enough.

  • Just enough to not draw blood but make you itchy as fuck for 2 weeks. Truly an artiste at the top of his game.

Go wash your hands with water as warm as you can stand it and give your hands a good rubbing, it should help a bit with the itching, it's a light allergic reaction. Maybe an antihistamine as well.

A friend of mine almost lost her hand this last week from cat scratch fever. It’s no joke

    How?

Most likely from an infection or virus. Cats have super dirty nails.

I don't think people potentially lose body parts to cat scratches.

I don't believe the person who claimed that.

If a cat scratch does get infected, and the infection goes untreated, you can absolutely get sepsis from it. Completely preventable, but also possible.

Is it? Sepsis from a cat scratch?

I'd love to hear more from the person who claimed it actually happened.

I mean, sure... I don't know what happened with that person, but I can search medical websites for you,

Capnocytophaga canimorsus is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium found in the oral flora of dogs and cats. Human infection with this bacterium is rare; however, once infection occurs, it can lead to sepsis and subsequent disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), septic shock and multiorgan failure.

    https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3604375/

Includes a story about a guy who presented with sepsis, could've had toes amputated but improved in condition once the infection was treated.

    Thanks, that's very interesting.

It's also extremely rare which again prompts me to question why we should be careful of cat scratches because someone claims their friend almost lost their hand.

You don’t have to believe me and I frankly don’t care if you do 🤷‍♂️

But for the sake of humoring a smartass Redditor, she was taking care of her neighbor’s cat and it decided to bite the hand that feeds. Her hand swelled up to the point of not being able to move her fingers and she had to spend the weekend in the ER. They briefly talked about wanting to do surgery on her hand, and if the infection really set it worse she could have lost it, but it ended up not being necessary

Yeah didn't sound like you were being honest.

    Bite vs scratch.

Losing a hand vs operation, slight difference.

“Bite the hand that feeds” is an expression, you pedantic twit 🙄

She received lacerations inflicted by the claws which were in the paw of the cat. Sorry I had to spell that out literally for you.

You forgot the part where you lied about almost losing the hand.

Using the phrase 'bite the hand that feeds' when trying to explain a scratch is really something special.

I like to use alcohol wipes, it hurts but in a reaaally good way, like all of the future scratching condensed into a matter of seconds, esp when the itchiness stops afterwards

The satisfying pain of murdering millions of bacteria cells all at once

my knee looks like this person’s hand and the itch!!!!!!

  • No stitches? You got off easy

  • I hope the brushing wasn’t right after the “art”

The art absolutely influenced the brushing. It was a command.

  • Love me!!! -Cat

And now stop 🛑 🐯! -Cat

  • Cat groomed hooman, so now hooman must groom cat

  • Incorrect amount of brushes - bop bop bop

  • Next time look at him when you're talking to him.

  • I would die from cat scratch fever.

  • I started fake crying (sometimes real crying) when my asshole resident cat does shit like this. I can't believe it, but she is better now. I think she is just getting old tho.

  • These types of cat owners will look you dead in the eye and tell you this sort of behavior is cute or tolerable.

He probably deserved it, my cat gives fair warning before he gives a paddlin

My orange lady will just attack out of nowhere unfortunately. She will occasionally give me a warning that she's overstimulated and I can get out of the way, but most of the time she just either bites or scratches with no warning at all.

She's a very sweet cat 90% of the time. The problem is that other 10%. 🤨

  • The comments being all cutesy is a bit fucking weird here. This is a major behavioural issue

Major behavioral issue for the human maybe.

The cat not breaking skin at all for the number of scratches means they are pretty good at controlling their claws.

I have no problem not getting scratched. I do however out of my own free will choose to go for the belly rub and tank the bunny kick reflex voluntarily.

I think the belly rubsdepends, if my boy is sun bathing he will hind leg kick, if hes actually chosen its cuddle time he loves it. I get lots of those love you head butts. He im assuming is even trying to mimic a peak kiss when I give him one and he does a gentle as could be nose nibble. Only time I get scratched usually is when he decides to jump off the tallest piece of furniture onto my shirtless sleeping body. I call it his kittie power bomb.

Now if I could get him to let me sleep in on weekends we would he set. Meow, meow!!! Give me breakfast human.

The only time I get scratched is when I walk too close to the chair my cat is in without wearing a sweatshirt and he decides it’s dad choo choo time and jumps onto my shoulders

I agree. And im not judging the cat. Im judging the human who seems to not be concerned with their own boundaries and their readiness to post it here out of some sort of pride or seeking of validation.

There is no trophy for allowing your cat to do this to you.

I also have an orange cat. Ive stopped allowing him to do this to me, and I certainly dont take pride in it happening to me. This is not cute, and it is not love. This is a one brain-celled human. And now the cat is worse off too.

Cats have a much thicker skin compared to us. So when they play with each other they can go harder than what our skin is used too and it leaves such marks. Its not a behavior issues, car is geniualy just playing. But you can teach them not to go this far and that we as humans have a lower "play" range. Owner not bothering with it and just going with a flow of a cat is not cat's fault

If it was a human doing this to them people would suggest calling the police. But it’s a car so I guess that makes it cute. Cats are cool but that doesn’t mean liking cats/cat ownership should become a cult.

It mostly looks bad because there seems to be an allergic reaction going on. My cat will graze my skin while I play with him, and there's nothing vicious about it and can be prevented with a nail trim. Hell, he 'bites' me too but there's a lot of restraint and it's more of a 'thank you'/excited nip when I feed him. There's a huge difference between cats playing and fighting.

I don't think I've received that many scratches in the 7 years that I've owned my cat. This looks like someone ignoring their pet's warnings.

Depends on the cat I guess since every cat I've owned has been different. My current one loves to play and wrestle with my arm while he's on his back. If his claws aren't trimmed there's going to be some scratches. And yes, I'm familiar with cat body language. It's very clear that he's playing and trying to be careful.

It happens when you engage in play with your hands, it’s something cat owners are aware of and anticipate. Most of us avoid it most of the time but if they’ve had cats for more than a couple years they have had this happen to them. We just do our best to avoid it, for obvious reasons.

This is a cat that’s made effort not to break the skin, it’s not their fault our skin is more delicate and sensitive than other cats’ and they still do damage. This is normal play behaviour with a creature not built for it (and with a mild allergy, which I say from experience). It is normalised because it’s normal, just better to use toys and not your hands.

    [deleted]

Then you’re not allergic, I guess? Cats use their claws when they play, all of them.

Self harm but make it cute

People should never play with their cats with bare hands. This is an inevitable outcome. Also, it seems like you are not a cat owner yourself and for good reason. From your comment, it doesn't seem like cats would choose you as their human.

Most Cat owners are fucking not okay and then they end up enabling not okay behaviors.

And I do mean most cat owners. I see and hear this shit all the time. People who are okay with this should not own pets.

  • If you’re not letting your cat take their anger out on you every once in a while, are you even a good cat owner?

  • I know its gonna be a bias opinion from me because I've had dogs all my life, but one thing I've never understood is cat owners behaviour.... if your cat viciously attacked you it's "awwww so spicy today, thanks for the love" but if your dog nips you in an anxious panic it's straight to the shelter of forever box, can someone with better understanding and information explain it?

Cats are still wild animals, while dogs are actually domesticated. If a dog attacks a human, it's a huge breach of trust.... For some cats, it's just how they are.

There's this thing called "misplaced aggression" an angry cat will basically lash out and attack whatever is close if they get into a rage, even if it's someone they recognize and would otherwise love, if not tolerate. That's the wildness of the cat showing.

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain it to me, Google search give me a different answer everytime I searched it.

  • This is why cats lose to dogs every time. If a dog did this to a human being they’d be put down.

Cat people are absolutely catshit crazy keeping something around that sees them as food

If a cat scratches a human it's almost always the humans fault. It happens if you disrespect their boundaries, hurt them and so on. I interacted with many cats and have a cat myself and i can tell you if you respect a cats boundaries it won't scratch you.

Not to mention here where you can see that the cat was intentionally avoiding hurting the human. These look like play scratches where the the pet owner wasn't careful when playing.

Cats boundaries change by the day. That’s an absolute joke of a take. I’ve been at my friends and had their cat jump on my lap and cuddle like the sweetest thing in the world. Then next time I was there a week later, she wouldn’t let me up the stairs to the room I was staying in, and wrapped around my left ankle gouging my skin. Had to get a tetanus shot, rabies regimen since she bit me (no fun) and a lot of antibiotics. Once again, if a dog attacked me in the same fashion? It’d be euthanized. But I obviously just completely disrespected the mini tiger’s boundaries by going upstairs to get in bed.

There’s 0 training you can do for a cat.. they do what they want. There’s 0 loyalty. You’re a literal food source for them, and if they’re still here after you’re gone… then they’ll still treat ya that way

A healthy cat in a healthy environment doesn't act like that. ( unless it's a younger cat and you are confusing play with aggression.kittens generally haven't learned yet how to hold bag yet when playing.)

But I'm constantly around cats and i get maybe a accidental scratch once a year.

It sucks you had a bad experience with a cat but you need to remember that's an isolated incident. Also cats like humans are prone to mental disorders and similar stuff so a singular cat can't be used to judge all cats.

Also cats can get trained they just learn in different ways then dogs. If you attempt dog training on a cat it might even cause the cat to become aggressive in the first place cause cats and dogs need to be treated very differently and they learn in different ways.

Cats are predators by nature. The OP has permanent scars on his hand, and the video strongly implies that the cat is why.

I also know 5-6 people who have been attacked by cats to the point of needing stitches or worse. One of them got clawed in the carotid artery when a transformer blew up in their neighborhood. He had he’d owned for 7 years in his lap watching a movie, then almost died.

Girl I went to school with lost an eye from her cat when she went home for the holidays.. said she just tried to pick her up and it jumped on her, climbed up her back and did one swipe across her face. She looks badass in an eye patch tho.

If it was a dog in any of these instances, theyd be put down for being a threat to the public’s well being. Dogs are deadlier, but they are at least more likely to respond to a human’s commands. They are also way easier to subdue if the worst case scenario occurs. Much less elusive and just all around more predictable. Aggressive dogs are aggressive 100% of the time. Cats can flip a switch and become deadly in a second. I have had cats my entire life, but I learned early on that they don’t care about us outside of the food we’ve feed em. They are literally the same as tigers, lions, jaguars and every other big cat, just smaller. Anyone who keeps those in captivity is called dumb and deserving of what they get, when they inevitably get mauled. It’s the same thing with house cats on a smaller scale, pit bulls and other aggressive dog breeds, exotic and poisonous fish/snake/reptile species.. basically anything that humans pretend to have dominion over. Hell even cows, horses, pigs, donkeys, roosters.. pretty much everything else in the barnyard is willing to kill us as soon as they see us as more of a threat, than an easy source of food. Cats are the least predictable of the bunch.

If you think that your cat is anything other than a wild animal then you’re gonna have scars like the OP eventually.

Those aren't scars, those are fresh scratches that will heal in about a week or two. And those are scratches where the cat intentionally avoided hurting op otherwise you would see blood everywhere in the picture.

The transformer one is a cat having a panic attack. Can equally happen to a dog. Honestly just a very unlucky moment.

The girl one sounds unusual if it's her own cat. Honestly here is suspect the cat might have a brain tumor or other issues with the brain or might have a abusive history. Very sad, but very unusual cat behavior. Hard to judge without having more details.

Edit : the cat might also have it as taboo to get picked up, many cats absolutely despise getting picked up. In which case this might have been meant as a warning strike to be let down and was just unlucky to have landed in the eye. But i mentioned earlier cats are animals that need their boundaries respected if a cat hates getting picked up you shouldn't pick up the cat. But yeah don't know the cat so hard to judge.

Also you seem to misunderstand how dog bites work. Maybe it's harsher in your country but dogs don't get automatically put down if they bite someone. A dog biting or injuring someone doesn't automatically mean the dog gets put down, it goes through legal processes where it's determined wether the dog has a aggressive history and wether they are at risk of harming people. But otherwise wether it's cat or dog if your pet injures someone the owner is legally responsible and has to pay damages to the victim.

Also if cats show very aggressive behavior they also can get euthanized no idea where you got the idea cats are immune to euthanizia. But a cat scratching someone like we see in this post isn't sign of aggressive behavior in a cat, those are play scratches.

Lol those will fade in a couple weeks.

  • Immediately after scratching , I usually give it a good slap upside the head or a good dousing of water. It truly does think twice about creating art, next time.
