This is my smartest cat. He plays fetch! He can open doorknobs! But today? He got up near a candle and swept his voluminous tail through it. He’s fine. Just a bit o’ crunchy tail.
I don't remember this because I was a baby but we once had a cat with a big poofy tail and he was just walking on the counter and mom looked over and his tail was just. on fire. he was ok but it's really funny how casual it was
Same thing happened with my cat. My brother was holding him near a candle, my mum smelled burnt hair and looked up to see the cat's tail is on fire. We put it out immediately and the cat had no idea anything had even happened. Cool as a cucumber.
Thankfully dense fur is a good insulator and hair has no nerves in it, so it's likely it hadn't burned down close enough to the skin yet for it to register. Also means lower risk of burn injuries from very superficial burns like this; we'd be dealing with some peeling skin from the same exposure.
lol same! both my cats have set themselves on fire before. Our orange walking past a candle singed the top of his tail, and our mini void stuck her face in a menorah and burned off her eyebrows and whiskers. Both were fine and everything grew back and neither has gone near fire since.
My orange cat did this once! I was in the bath and had lit a candle- the dumbass walked over it and caught on fire. I had to leap out of the bath and throw him into it. He was so mad and confused - he never knew what happened.
We can't burn candles unless one of us is in the room to keep our orange out of them. Ten seconds to go refill a drink and I come back to find him STANDING over the candle while his tummy fur singes. 🤦♀️
My kitten loves angle grinders. He'll sneak into the shop and roll around in the sparks and always wind up slightly toasted. I'm still not sure how he's getting in.
Mine did that a few weeks ago! But his black fur hid the damage until he dropped ashes across my desk when he ran over for pets. I thought he got the braincell more but clearly he's competing with his orange brethren
Yep had a cat that had burnt tip of her tail. She casually watched it flicker flickering foof. Smokes. She went on her walk as if nothing happened. The room stank of burnt hair
I had an absolute dingus who would hang out on the counter between the gas stove and the sink full of soaking dishes. Whenever he'd set his tail on fire, he'd flick it into the water to put it out.
My orange is not smart and he did the same thing! He jumped up on a counter and took a weird turn, setting the tip of his tail on fire with a candle. I was yelling and patting him to put it out but he HATES when people touch his tail so he just screamed right back and then bit me for daring to make sure he wasn’t on fire😆

My childhood cat lit herself on fire like this - a very fluffy baby with a super flammable undercoat apparently.
