Whenever I see Parker Posey, I always think of this scene in Dazed and Confused where she gleefully squirts ketchup and mustard everywhere hazing the freshman girls.
I think most actors basically play or be themselves on camera. So when I hear that some actor who plays with rules on camera, is actually kinda weird in real life I'm not surprised.
Yeah. I honestly can’t stand her. I think she’s talented and does a good job. And her roles in Christopher Guest’s comedies are iconic. But she’s always just reminded me of the obnoxious, snobby girls I was in high school with.
I remember watching this before h.s. and being absolutely terrified of these hazings the kids went through. And my older friends did nothing to dissuade me.
Only to not have anything happen. I dunno if they just didn't happen anymore or where I grew up, or if only in certain towns.
This kind of stuff used to happen all the time, but sometime in the last 15 years or so, it cooled down a lot. I suspect that it happens in a different form online these days (social media).
Used to have spirit week at my high school and bullying WAS ENCOURAGED by the administration toward the freshman, granted this was in the 90’s……it’s crazy how things have changed culturally.
Yes, I graduated in ‘94 and the administration and teachers didn’t do dick about bullying. The only thing they they tried to stop was fights and smoking lol
Same unless their was a fist fight or smoking or an attempt to skip class no teacher ever raised an eyebrow…..they even removed all the stall doors in the boy’s restroom in an attempt to stop smoking. All bullying was pretty much “oh boys will be boys!” So in my day mandatory nude showers were a thing and no joke kids would piss on the nerds during our shower time and nothing was done about it!
There used to be two Starbucks kitty corner on Robson and Thurlow in Vancouver. One closed down years ago. Can't imagine how expensive the lease would be.
She was terrific in the remake of Lost in Space a few years ago. She played Dr. Smith (unlike Jonathan Harris or Gary Oldman) as a complex psychopath, grooming Will Robinson like a child molester. She was singularly creepy.
for real in the 90s in Seattle there was a musclebound fella who was rumored to be in a gradschool library program who only ever rode a pretty fancy racing bike, wore only muscle tees and non-long shorts… and wore a fricking BROADSWORD on his back everywhere he went. He would excitedly explain that the sword is part of his religion. For a look-at-me nutcase he was pretty chill. His nom-de-Seattle in the era? CONAN THE LIBRARIAN
In addition to her great acting, she runs half marathons. I had my shoes repaired in Verona, NJ and there was a large photo on the wall of a NYC half-marathon. The owner of the shoe repair shop was in the photo and Ms. Posey was in the background.
