Piggybacking off this - I try to repost this when I see posts like this, in the hopes you (or someone) can find some comfort in the words - and if not, please excuse the intrusion.
I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). He's done his job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's his turn to rest.
You'll always miss him, you'll always remember him. You'll even go looking for him for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting him. Donating/throwing away his toys or blankets isn't forgetting him. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life he'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without him. Life isn't over. Its just changing.
Beautifully said. I will add that it's also ok to one day love a new dog that needs you; when the time is right. I like to believe that our new dogs are brought to us by our dogs that have already crossed over. 🌈

Thank you! Our other two dogs got to say goodbye it’s an odd feeling that he went before our 18 year old. I dread those days too. But yup we found him in Texas and he got to live out his last 10 years in Florida laying by the pool and soaking up sun

I let my baby go to sleep forever less than a month ago. He was 16 and his name was Max, and the tears still flow daily. I was at a car wash, and the cashier had a sign that said, "Max amount of cash back 10.00" and I burst into tears.
I've given up apologizing for my sadness, those who care, understand. Be kind to yourself, my friend. This is all so fresh and raw.
You gave Rocky a wonderful life, when it gets to be too much, remind yourself of that.
You and Rocky have been in my prayers the last few days. I'm so sorry things didn't work out. You gave Rocky his best life, and I'm sure he loved you for it. Rest easy, good boy.
My Amoretto, Vision, Carson, and all of our babies that have gone before will look for you next to the Rainbow Bridge so you can all play in the Field together!

I’ve been where you are several times friend. I wish I could tell you it gets easier but I’d be lying. The pain does dull after awhile. Please try to focus on the happy days and not his last moments if you can. 💕💕🐾🐾
Rocky absolutely got his wings finally as you had a heavenly angel in training, he's going to be watching over you and you were so blessed to have had him. I can't fathom what the loss may have been like, but it's clear to me he had so much love and care it's incredible, bless you on your healing journey
I hope is comes around frequently to us. We miss him terribly and I can’t believe he’s gone for the rest of my life. He was so funny and one of the nicest dogs ever. But he was suffering we couldn’t keep letting that happen
You did the most loving final act and he was clearly a sweet and precious little boy, he will be in your heart always and I would like to thank you for sharing such a heavenly angel with us. You were truly blessed to have had him <3
