• Both are great options but there isn’t a simple answer. You’re comparing with two factors: price and time. We can’t tell you what’s worth more to you.

    Time as in durability?

Time spent in finding a used higher end chair that is in your price range and expected condition.

Good, cheap, or fast. For any aspect in life, you may only experience two of the three at the same time.

    Right, right, 100%

Well look I mean that’s why I’m wondering how much better a used higher end chair is than a new mid range one because if it is substantially so I might be happy to do the grunt work to find one you know?

Basically, is it as big a deal as some would have you think?

My personal opinion is that the higher end chairs only excel in materials and higher detail in the finish. A mid end chair will fit your body but you’ll have less choice in how it looks.  Plus it’ll have a warranty.

Will a mid end chair be comfortable for hours on end?

Yes. Many of us in this subreddit work and play in chairs worth much less than $1000. It means the chair matched our body either by luck or we spent time getting to know our bodies and chair options.

  • It's fairly well established that you're better off with a used higher-end model - provided they're available in your area and you're okay with doing a bit of hunting.

Chairs are very subjective though, there may be a mid-range option out there that you'd love. The important part is to try out options. If the best chair you find is a pricey one - try second hand.
