Has anyone else had this issue with the Steelcase Amia chair?
I bought a brand-new chair, and after a few months I noticed that overnight it would lose its height adjustment and rise up, staying at the highest position. I contacted Steelcase and they replaced it, but after a few months of use I’m noticing the same problem again: within a few minutes of not being used, the chair raises itself to the maximum height.
Sounds like the set screw was improperly set at the factory. I think with the newer Amia's, you need to remove the seat (easy) and turn the set screw a small amount counterclockwise. Start with a quarter turn and then give it more quarter turns as needed.
Check the underside of the mechanism to see if there's any Philips head screws first ... but I think on the newer ones the adjustment is internal not external. Take a picture if you can an upload it.
Thanks for info but how do I remove the seat?
Long flathead screwdriver. Crandall has a YouTube video showing how to remove the Amia seat.
