As an Oakland homeowner for 25+ years, I really would have loved to send my kids to OUSD schools. I went to 12 years of public school and it was fine.
I lasted through elementary school for both children. After sixth grade, I noped out of there recognizing they were not on a path to get a good education.
Combination of charter, private and homeschooling. Not an easy or inexpensive route but I wasn't going to experiment with my children's education.
tldr; - Pulled children out of OUSD after sixth grade while still living in Oakland. They're both doing fine now.
Lynette coming in to loot the school district in its death thralls is a nice touch and really contextualizes the dysfunction and corruption. 🥂
