I know this gets asked every semester but is badjic or baldwin better for ochem 1? Im currently in baldwin and she posted recorded lectures, guided notes, and drops around 4 quizzes so it seems hopeful but I'm not sure. Thanks!!

  • Baldwin is a great lecturer but difficult; if you’re willing to put in the work it’s very possible to get a good grade and to walk out of the class with a great foundational knowledge of ochem. On the other side, if you slack off or don’t put in the work, she will probably be your least favorite professor.

  • Baldwin is a tough professor absolutely. But she gives you more than enough practice assignments and problems to succeed. If you aren’t trying to spend time to put in the work. I don’t recommend her. Not sure if she still uses it but Aleks hw can take a long time but can be very helpful

  • definitely take badjic his lectures are easy to follow and recorded. there are three exams and you can drop one. and there are weekly quizzes and a final. those r the only grades but his exams and quizzes r exactly like the problem sets so they’re not bad at all.

Thanks thats good to know!! I'm mostly worried abt Badjic since I heard he doesn't give any practice & only 1 practice exam, is that true?

Unfortunately that is true. This makes it harder for really mastering the material beyond his class/expectations, but everything on his quizzes and tests are in the single practice sets/exams he gives so you could be set up to get a great grade if you spam those. It’s a tradeoff of being less prepared for future but having an easier path to a good gradep

  • Don’t know nothing abt badjic but I got A’s in ochem 1 & 2 with Baldwin. I don’t get all the hate she gets, she provides soo many resources and practice problems to help u, it’s just that most students don’t put in the work and they expect to learn it all in one go

Okay thanks!! Do u mind sharing how you were studying for ochem 1?

  • Just putting this out there for consideration since I just took Baldwin and will be taking her for ochem 2 this semester. I ended up with a 81% being a B+ after getting slightly above average on exams and being average for quizzes. She is not the most personable, and her assignments are hard, but she wants you to learn and does a lot so that you can have a good foundation in ochem.

  • I just had her last semester and sometimes she seemed less fair then other classes, but the curve really made up for it. She also gives a lot of practice and if you’re good at doing those weekly you’ll be fine.
