Hello! I’m a rising freshman at OSU planning to double major in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience (not pre med!). I’ve also been admitted to the honors college, but I am unsure if I should join the program; I worry about the difficulty of the advanced classes, despite doing well in high school. I would also be able to complete my double major w/out honors in three years, but with honors would likely take the full four years. I also plan on grad school. Would the workload be an extreme increase? Is the honors college even worth it? Has anyone had any similar experiences? Let me know! :)

  • hi i just graduated with a degree in psych and computational/cog neuro in may!

i was also in the honors program; while honors doesnt give much advantage other than scheduling earlier, i did find i enjoyed some of the honors psych and neuro classes and benefitted from them being smaller and inviting deeper discussions of the topic

i dont believe they were too difficult, but yes, you do need to know your stuff on exams (aka, a lot of them arent MC exams, there are short answers)

the workload usually isnt that much more (at least for the classes I took)

feel free to dm any other questions!

also gonna add: if grad school is medical school and you want to go straight through, I would do the full four years

if its something else like amsters/Phd, then im sure 3 years is fine as long as you have tangible research

  • How did you get into the honors college already? I have a friend who applied but haven’t heard anything back
