Truck pulled away from the dock, fifth wheel wasn’t latched properly, trailer fell off of truck, landing gear collapsed, front of trailer is sitting on the ground, tow truck operator now has to lift trailer up so another truck can hook back up to it.
This rates pretty low on the scale of “dangerous things a tow operator does in a day”
Looks like that's the repair guy. More than likely one of the front supports failed. I thought at first if fell off the back of a tractor being pulled away from the loading dock. It's not really a good picture.
Correct that's the recovery crew, that's actually the tow truck in front. They ended up lifting the end of the trailer up and the shunt truck backed in 90degrees to the trailer and hooked up.
The two legs that hold the front of the trailer are joined by a bar. When you winch one leg this bar connects it to the other leg so they both raise and lower in tandem.
Sometimes the bar breaks or comes off. The driver winches the legs down to drop the trailer but doesnt see that the leg on the opposite side isn't lowering.
They pull out. One leg is still retracted and the trailer falls.
This kind of fuckup is a known quantity. I saw a coworker do this a few months ago.
Ok I'm clearly not a trucker, but this just makes me feel uneasy.

How the hell did it get in that position? Did like 3 axles snap or something?

That's a terrible picture. And only one picture./s

Ah, got it! Thanks for the explanation!
I've seen one of the landing legs penetrate the tarmac (asphalt) giving the trailer a lean like this.
It's damaged the dock seal too.
