• Still love a situation at work years ago. I worked in a warehouse and to get out of the building in a fire we had to go down some stairs, but downstairs kept blocking access, including to the fire door. We had told them repeatedly, and we had also made sure we emailed the manager that this was dangerous.

So one day the alarm goes off. I'm first down the stairs and lo and behold, a bin had been placed at the bottom. So I picked it up and hurled it out of the way. The manager downstairs, not mine, told me to stop and tried to chew me out. I pointed out that the fire alarm was going off and we needed to exit the building, but the path was blocked. He didn't care he said he had had enough of us, but I cut him off and told him to make it official.

Idiot actually did. I don't know what was going through his head when in the "disciplinary" meeting there was not just me, but my manager, his manager, the Health and Safety manager, and a HR representative. My part was simply confirming that I found the stairwell blocked, cleared it, and then was stopped exiting the building by said manager. I was then asked to leave. I didn't see him again.

    Darwin nominee that idiot

    Fucking legend 🤘

Given my brief experience in factory work while going through college (small south eastern town) I can 100% believe this, sadly.

Just pointing out that I want to upvote this but it’s at 69 upvotes so..

  • I was at a hotel in years ago and on one of the emergency exits they had plastic chains across the doors and a laundry carts in front of it. The front desk didn’t seem to care, corporate comped the stay plus some gift cards.

    Hush money basically

We still reported it to the local fire station.

    Should've called the fire marshal

I’m pretty sure we reported it to the local fire brigade/station, my dad was in fire and security systems so he was pretty on top of it.

  • Merry crisis to all !

    merry christler to you too!

  • Finally! Some real OSHA violations

    Jail that woman

  • Hospital, school or Kindergarten?

    Marshall’s !

Hey that's a great idea... call the fire marshall!

  • WOW.

Someone, actually, posted an, actual, OSHA violation on this sub!

Bravo & kudos for understanding what OSHA is!

    Take my upvote.

Not just OSHA, it's a fire code violation too. And fire marshals have no issue using their enforcement power to write citations on the spot.

Except for when they show up, tell the owner hey this isn’t right, we’ll be back in a month get it fixed by then, and then never show up again :/

Happened to me several jobs ago, the owner fucking schmoozed his way out of it, hasn’t changed anything, and I’m willing to bet it’s gotten worse since I left.

  • Is it locked shut or is there just a mop in front of the door

Fire doors should never be locked from the inside. They should also be clear of any obstacles or obstructions .

"The other day I was in a casino, and a guard said to me 'sir, you have to move, you are blocking the fire exit', as if I was just going to stand there if there was a fire. If you are flammable and have legs, you are NEVER blocking a fire exit". RIP Mitch Hedberg

    What if you're a table?

The area is supposed to be kept absolutely clear of obstacles and debris.

The lock on the exit device is for arming/disarming the screamer.

There's just a mop. For all we know this could've been moved 2 minutes later

  • It happened at the store I once worked at, I just moved the šŸ’© out of the way. After a couple of times I started informing the managers. Our sign didn't even say keep clear at all times, and I suggested that there at least be an additional sign saying "do not block door" but the idea fell on deaf ears.

In their defense, they may very well have had a sign like that in the past that had since fallen down - but if it didn't make an appreciable difference, they didn't bother to replace it. On the other hand, they should have said so if that was the reason my idea was shot down.

  • Everything is in good condition ,'šŸ˜€šŸ˜€šŸ˜€

  • Come with me and you’ll see a world of osha violations!!

  • this is a violation 🚨

  • I would yell at my saff for that. Good thing they know better

  • That looks like you crudely looked around for a photo op moment and you placed those items there…

5 seconds and that door is cleared…

    wouldnt be surprised tbh

  • Call fire prevention

  • One time I worked at a company owned by Kroger and during orientation the room we were in had been completely blocked in by pallets. Like someone literally moved several pallets full of stuff in front of the door while me and the manager were in the room. It was fine fortunately, she radio'd someone and they came and let us out,, but had there been an emergency we'd have been completely trapped. I didn't work there very long.

  • This is definitely a problem, but it's also one that's easily resolved. And honestly could have been solved by OP

OP never claimed to work at this Marshall's. Why would it be the responsibility of a customer to clear any OSHA violations?

"Hey do you work here? Your emergency exit is blocked"

Also, this looks like an employees only area

It's not the duty of the customer to tell an employee how to do their job. That is a manager's job.

    You’re hired!

Also, this looks like an employees only area

There are products on display on the right side and a sign pointing toward the checkout on the left. Clearly not an employee only area.

That looks like a rack for employees' bags

    my thoughts exactly

  • This isn’t a big deal. Yes, it shouldn’t be allowed, but in the case of an emergency, you just move the stuff and walk out.

  • Did you move the trash can, mop, and broom after taking this picture?

  • And I bet you left it?

most likely - OP just wanted to collect updoots

    Thx for the engagement
