After a recent investigation ( https://old.reddit.com/r/RedditSafety/comments/1j3nz7i/findings_of_our_investigation_into_claims_of/ ) by Reddit regarding unfounded claims from right wing media of leftist mods having terrorist involvement, a new punitive measure rolled out this week
“starting today, users who, within a certain timeframe, upvote several pieces of content banned for violating our policies will begin to receive a warning. We have done this in the past for quarantined communities and found that it did help to reduce exposure to bad content, so we are experimenting with this sitewide. This will begin with users who are upvoting violent content, but we may consider expanding this in the future. In addition, while this is currently “warn only,” we will consider adding additional actions down the road.”

r/NotADragQueen has always complied with Reddit policies by removing violent content that has been reported. However, even if a post or comment isn’t reported and is deemed to have broken Reddit’s policies, admins can and will still take action to remove the content and possibly suspend the user. If you happen to upvote the content, you are now at risk of receiving a warning. Here is an example:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ABoringDystopia/s/meIflZheCG
Reddit is heavily relying on “automated systems” (AI) to review actions and send warnings, remove content, and suspend users. Know that if this happens it is NOT a moderator action. If this happens due to content in our community, please let us know via modmail so we can investigate and possibly assist with appeals. If your account is suspended, you will be given a link to appeal in the message from admins. There is a 250 character limit for appeals, so it is best to take some time to organize what you will say. If your appeal is denied you can continue to appeal every day after you receive a response/denial at www.Reddit.com/appeals - If you have been suspended permanently, to my knowledge, you can continue to appeal for up to 60 days before your account is permanently inaccessible.
Please keep these things in mind as we will likely see a lot of “mistakes” being made admins. Removing content only to reverse their decision at a later date is effectively the same as censoring and will stifle real-time conversation, specifically when it comes to resistance against corporations and governments.
https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilling_effect - the inhibition or discouragement of the legitimate exercise of natural and legal rights by the threat of legal sanction.
Resistance comes in many forms. Being properly informed and educating others is one of the most important. Knowledge IS power!

They really don't want people talking good about Luigi do they?
I’d like to upvote your comment but I’m concerned about suppression of how best to hit mushrooms with our heads conversations in the future.
And now I’m worried about upvoting your comment
Seems like less engagement is what reddit wants. What an interesting choice for social media/forum sites to take!
I just scrolled thru a linked post about a certain video game plumber, and not one comment was upvoted.

He can still receive mail.
Upvoting this to catch a ban.
I've already recieved a warning. Not for posting, but for upvoting....
I got banned from another site for posting a Saint Luigi meme. I hate this fkg timeline
That’s such a weird thing to do, especially bc I know I’ve accidentally both upvoted and downvoted posts/comments before.
https://preview.redd.it/h6dwqg9l79ne1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e8e33fdf4fad62bf9268d5d28c0e85023e0d648
Holy shit.
I can't wait to get mine.
Creepy as fuck that they are tracking my updoots. Fuckers. I will upvote the shit out of any pro-Luigi post or comment. EAT THE RICH!
They have always tracked your upvotes to determine vote manipulation. This is just a new use case and is meant have a chilling effect.
Funny that Facebook and X (far-right echo chambers) are REDUCING oversight at the exact same time reddit (echo chamber for the left) are increasing oversight.
And yet people still complain about left leaning media
Do you really think Facebook and X aren’t doing the same thing? X is warning and banning users for things they say in public, not even on their platform. Facebook is enabling more hate speech, but will soon remove any AI content with Trump. Different approaches, but similar outcomes.
Lol what are you on about? Facebook is incredible censor-happy and has also been putting people in "FB jail" for comments and posts made years ago. It's the number one complaint I hear from anyone I know that has FB.
Have you not heard Zuckerberg just recently got rid of all his fact checkers and is going to rely on community notes in the style of twitter?
Why would I care? I don't use FB or Twitter.
Why would you contradict someone on a subject you don't care about?
I’ve been signed out of my Facebook and unable to sign back in for over a year after multiple month-long stints in Facebook jail. There’s no way to get ahold of anyone “at Facebook” to fix it. I don’t use Facebook at all now. Problem solved. But I got banned for the following (not all the cases, just a few) from about 2020-2024.
-calling someone a “racist potato” for saying all immigrants should be deported -posting an edit of the MJ eating popcorn meme but the popcorn was Tide Pods -saying verbatim “men are responsible for the majority of violent crimes.” -commenting simply “trash” on a post from a literal white supremacist.
American Hero Luigi Mangione?
I love references to American Hero Luigi Mangione!
Fact: American Hero Luigi Mangione has been falsely accused of stopping Mass Murderer and known criminal Brian Thompson
No, so discuss Mario’s brother instead. Or another euphemism. The character with the green hat. Leo? Larry? Luis?
Fuck that shit and fuck obeying in advance.
Lugia Manaphy?
It just makes me want to mention Luigi in every single reddit comment I make. Way to streisand effect reddit.
Luigi is a cool character and hero who can defeat Bowzer in Super Mario World 3 by throwing green fireballs at them.
I support Luigi in court.
That’s exactly what it is. I have an Etsy and use a POD service for my sticker/apparel designs, and they wouldn’t let me upload a design that just said “free Luigi.” If they TRIED to make him a folk hero they wouldn’t have succeeded to this level. Look at Teefury. Endless pro-Luigi designs.
I wonder what happens if we all send him a dollar XD
Maga cult members now reporting comments to get people banned. It's getting worse a they're invading subs known to be anti Trump
You mean literally every sub that deals in facts?
Worse. Had one person stalking me in the doordash driver sub.
ONLY LIBERALS EAT FOOD
Leftists have a rich diet.
a rich and diverse diet
Ya'll are making me really hungry for some nice rich soup, and let's face it the dessert will be sinfully rich!!!!
r/noncrediblesoup
Wtf???
The dumb fucks are everywhere.
Hmm, maybe that's why I got perma-banned from a sub that claims to call out terrorism from the right. All I posted was a statement that FEMA workers couldn't get to S.C. because their travel accounts had been cut.
Aka every sub worth a damn.
That’s how I got the twitter ban
Check their post history and report what you find. These idiots can't go 2 days without threatening someone so it's easy to get them banned.
[deleted]
It’s only okay if the violence comes from right wingers
Is that why the stock nosedived again today? It was up around $166 at 10am and I just checked and it is down to $150.
No, that is most tech stocks and stocks in general due to Trump and Republicans sucking Putin’s dick. The rich are creating a fire sale so they can be even wealthier while the rest of us get poorer and suffer.
I just off of a 3 day ban for "harassment" for defending my disabled daughter on the Science page. Seriously.
TF.
It's funny because the reason the stock is down is because of poor user activity. Genius move to start kicking off users
How does one even know if content has been banned for violating policies? Like a retroactive notice for something previously interacted with? What if it was an accidental upvote? Seems extremely arbitrary without any measurable metrics.
That's the point.
Yep. Classic authoritarian FUD
Yup, I got a warning for saying “the preacher should remove his eyes”, in reference to the guy who said he didn’t want to see women in public spaces. First time ever.
I upvoted you, waiting for my love letter.
How dare you (checks notes) quote the Bible at them!
The Twitterization has begun, we're done for.
Wouldn't it be funny if we all stopped upvoting?
There are no rules against downvoting opinions you disagree with (yet).
What if we uno reverse everything.
I downvoted you to show my support
And of course someone from the snowflake safe space is simping for this

Yep I just got this as well.

Severe thought police vibes.
Idk Bluesky terms but it or one of the Lemmy chats are sounding better by the day
Yeah, I wish there were better choices, but the problem I have with most other social media services is they are personality-based (you follow a person and see a sampling of what they say), rather than topic based (you join a subreddit and see a popular posts from that subreddit (and others you've subscribed to) on your feed. I'm interested in specific topics, not what a particular person thinks about politics and also their dog and what they had for dinner. Reddit is more like Usenet was, 30 years ago. Lemmy is along the same lines, but when I've looked in on it, it tended to resemble a ghost town.
I got one of those last month. I don't even know which post it was.
The first warning message I get for a simple upvote is the last time I use this fucking site
Yeah that's insane. They can only do it because AI
The Bluesky account notadragqueen (no hyphens) may not be affiliated with this sub but largely does the same thing. I’ve followed both.
It seems like they have not been active for about 3 months. We will likely focus on LGBTQ+ content rather than calling out monsters.
The public is fucked. Like...extremely fucked
Don't worry, it will never be applied to right wing stochastic terrorism.
Can we report such comments? Does it count against you only if the subreddit mods remove a comment, or does it trigger automatically at the reddit admin level?
First they came for X, and I said nothing, because I was not X.
These losers trawl the net to poison every well they can, especially since 2016. Now they're joined by an army of troll-bots trying to turn the entire internet into their personal cesspool.
Just in case you haven't noticed yet (I did too late as well, for honesty's sake). The entirety of the USA is compromised right now. You guys have a lot of work to do.
Whelp we all knew it was coming
Mods of several subs are also hiding comments that say anything about the middle east and in some cases outright banning you from said sub.
Someone R/pics commented something about the US heading in the direction of Russia.
So I commented the name of a book, that is a play on a The Beatles song title.
"Back in the USSA". I got a ban, I asked for clarification on what rule/policy I broke and got muted.
That's what I hear from several people, Mods are either outright lying about what rule the person broke or just immediately muting them without an explanation.
The only time we've ever muted users in the community I mod, is when they get a temp ban for something and start screaming obscenities at the mods.
We primarily only ban / mute bigots here.
I'm only referring to the ones banning/muting ppl for even mentioning the middle east (either side of the isle).
"I don't know what rule or what post/comment triggered this ban.
I feel this is unjustified."
We get those occasionally. We patiently explain which of the rules they've violated. Most say "ah, okay" (or similar, whether they're happy about it or not), but occasionally we get the ones that start insulting the mods or talking about damaging the subreddit (and we're quick to report ban evasion when we spot it). Occasionally we get people saying "but the other guy was REALLY wrong, so therefore I shouldn't be banned" (no, if they're wrong, use your grownup words to reply to them, and if they're breaking subreddit rules, then report the comment, don't try to mete out justice on your own - that'll get you a timeout).
The first rule of our subreddit (to be clear, I'm not comparing/contrasting against this subreddit - I think the mods here do a great job - just speaking from the experience that I have)... our first rule is "Be excellent to each other" (it's not a political subreddit, and it's for a game that's overtly LGBTQ+ friendly) - on rare occasions we get bigots screaming about the game / subreddit / community being "too woke" (and we're like "did you pick up the wrong game by mistake? CoD and the other high testosterone PvP games are the third door on the right, down the hall"). You can have differing opinions on the game (including complaining at length about the devs), and debate with other subreddit users, but if you start throwing insults at other subreddit users, you're going to get a temp ban, because Rule #1. And if you keep pushing it, or are really egregious, then you can get a permaban. And if you try to harass the mods, you get muted.
Banning users for criticizing Russia? Can't say I'm shocked, our president is a Russian asset
2025 is going to be the year a whole new swathe of people learn the term "chilling effect" when it comes to socialization on the internet.
You have received 10 demerits to your social media score for professing beliefs that the government has determined are un-American.
I mean an oath of allegiance and physically verifiable proof of loyalty(in whatever form that takes) is not very far off! You will be made to obey or be cut off from everything.
How is this not a dangerous level of censorship?
It is. We are living through a coup and a transition of power.
Meanwhile Spez has refused to ban neo nazi subreddits for years because "free speech"
https://reboot.digg.com/
I received a “warning” a full two weeks after I made a comment on a post about Doge”, I didn’t threaten anyone or use violent rhetoric. I simply talked about the unconditional nature of the organization
“They don’t gotta burn the books, they just remove ‘em.”
The wealthy are getting increasingly squirrelly and making obvious mistakes.
I heard that staying alive is super woke
Free Luigi
Thank you for sharing this info!
This is literally the only corner of the internet/social media I use. Please don’t ruin it, MAGA. Please.
I'll be selling my reddit stock for caving to the authoritarian. That's probably why it had such a bad day today
Unless you are able to afford the loss, wait until it makes sense to you financially. Divesting your investments and spending habits accordingly can take time.
They want to turn this into another echo-chamber of the right, I guess. They ought to go visit X. Good luck with that. LOL
And I'm sure the far right element on Reddit won't find a way to game this automated system in order to knock people off of Reddit./s
Why are people using AI for everything? It ain't ready yet. The AI that United Health used rejected like 98% of claims, many completely wrong.
You say that like it's a bug
Lol you're right.
Imagine having such awful ideas that you have to spend all your time figuring out ways to shut the opposition up. Maybe just let people be. Sheesh.
I have now joined BluSky and following your page 😅🥰😍😘
I'll upvote whatever the fuck I want, tf
I noticed
I don’t even remember what I upvoted
https://preview.redd.it/u1tciwrkq9ne1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=998819306810ff399d14205c58fc862523be6867
Well I woke up to a warning. Guess I am no longer upvoting.
https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilling_effect
Thank you
These are JUST warnings right now and they have not indicated any further actions at this time. Do not be discouraged! But if a post or comment is obviously violent, then it is best to avoid supporting regardless. If it is subjective (which it often is), then that is your call.
I'll just be keeping to myself and lurking on my subs. It's not my responsibility to report anything.
Well, i do not think it is a bad idea to avoid violent talk- period. Personally i want NO excuse for Trump to declare martial law and we really do not need to start off like that. Because he is waiting. There are two types of laws in this country- one for the extreme right, and one for the rest of us.
We REALLY need to discuss non-violent protest and MLK is always a great start. He has been defanged by society but the man was dangerous in a GOOD way. He made change. An eye for an eye and we will all be blind.
One day there may something other than reddit and they need to remember that.
Full, protect the bigots is comming. I got an automated Rule 1 warning for using the term: c-w-m_ in a thread about an obviously racist, local, elected official. I appealed, and it was held-up by a human as hate speech.
Move. To. Lemmy.
It simply isn’t active enough to be useful. Show me a thriving community, and then I’ll be interested. I’d rather be elsewhere, but it has to be at least somewhat effective.
Luigi isn’t the real shooter anyways. Why suppress a fall guy?
Weirdly, I was asked for feedback as I was reading this post. Baaaaaad timing on your part Reddo
Man you could just be openly pro Jan 6 in this hellsite WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING this is bullshit.
Orwellian
Wonder why the mods that allow the upvoted post don't get banned? If they do their job then there is no upvote problem.
Not necessarily, if a post doesn’t have any reports or mod actions (did not approve or remove), then it is possible to have a post or comment banned by admins without mods even knowing about it unless they review the mod log every day.
