It's not an issue with the acting. It's an issue with how certain things were translated to film. Like, a couple of combat scenes didn't hit as hard as they did in the book. And that bit where Captain America was "abusing" the EPW didn't make much sense in the show. I was wondering how that was a big deal. After I read the book, it made more sense.
The book is extremely good. It fills out the details behind some of the scene in the show. You more of get the thoughts of Evan Wright and it adds a lot to it.
I wasted my time watching that stupid address to the nation Wednesday night because I was convinced he was going to announce war. And honestly I wish he did instead of blabbering on about some bullshit for 30 minutes.
Yeah, I’ve got the tropic and arid, both are phenomenal. It’s already hard to spot someone wearing just OD green in the jungle, let alone if they’re wearing camo. The OG MultiCam works well, but the tropic almost makes you damn near invisible at like 25m in dense brush. Supposedly it’s got reduced IR signature too, but I’ve found thermals still pick you up pretty easily. But, in dense brush, even thermal has limitations.
Invading Venezuela from Iraq driving in Humvee towards north from Saudi Arabia??? That man needs some kind of award for his accomplishment. His achievements got to be studied for generations to come.
Pros: As much as I fuck with NuMetal and Indie rock, historical jungle environments have produced the greatest war time sound tracks in human history. This is an opportunity to refocus the warrior ethos
Cons: Pop music has reached an absolute nadir of musicality, creativity, and emotion. Having dudes thunder run to pop country music, mumble rap, and white girl pop that all might as well been written by bad AI would almost certainly impair lethality
I don't disagree. To me, an Air Cav unit doing a beach assault with Taylor Swift blaring "Shake it Up" from a loudspeaker just wouldn't have the same magnificence.
can we not just send a buncha guys that look like jimmy buffett with cash and guns to do this shit united fruit company style? cause i feel like that just makes more sense for the reigon
Venezuela boasts stunning Caribbean beaches, with highlights including the pristine, turquoise waters of the Los Roques Archipelago (Cayo de Agua, Madrisqui) and the lively, kitesurfing-friendly Isla Margarita (Playa El Yaque, Playa El Agua), plus unique spots in Morrocoy National Park (Cayo Sombrero) and along the mainland coast (Choroní, Bahía de Cata)
According to google it does. lol I had to check because I assumed it did because it has coast.
Maybe check something out from beyond the pond, then?
There's a Polish movie from the 90s depicting Polish peacekeeping mission in Bosna. The title is Demony Wojny według Goi. It had its international release titled Demons of War.
Although It's nowhere the quality and budget of US movies, for some people here, it's an all time classic.
You might want to check it out.
We also have Karbala, about the siege of city hall in Karbala, but this one makes my blood boil, because it shows the rules of engagement that stopped us from adding some points to the Geneva Conventions. Oh what could've been.
I for one look forward to the long overdue cures for tropical diseases that the GIs will eventually catch in the jungle.
The WHO hates this one simple trick
The "YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAH" band? Why would they care for diseases?
Because Horatio Caine wanted any song other than that.
And so will CDC and HHS under present leadership
Nah. Looks like they're sitting medical research out and just listening to podcasts for now.
"Bro, all I'm saying is look into it."
short glimpse Yeah, it's all bullshit and they're doing podcasts because they're functionally illiterate.
That's exactly why present leadership won't like it. They ain't gonna ivermectin or drink more orange juice their way out of this one.
"Maybe snort some silver powder about it..." - FDA
Yea tropical diseases. That is what my medical report will say.
"Sir, Chlamydia is not a 'tropical disease,' nor is it service-related."
If its not service related then why did you send me here?!
For Russians it is.
Or Marines...
Ah, born too late for Agent Orange, too early for AI apocalypse, but just in time for Agent Orange 2: Electric Boogaloo
Let's not forget screwworms and maybe? malaria?
There's vaccine for Malaria, so you know shit is going down if they're going for mandatory vaccinations of all troops against Malaria.
Then again with the current government maybe they won't even attempt that.
Which has every chance to smoothly slide into AI apocalypse (or AI bubble bursting and either apocalyptic financial throes or apocalyptic bailouts).
very lucky then, that american healthcare is the best in the world and the veteran affairs office is at full strength.
Your screwworm infection isn't related to your military service
You think this admin is going to give a shit about the veterans?
Business as usual then, eh?
"Malaria vaccines and Quinine? Nah, that's woke."
Who says we won't just burn down all the jungles?
Why would we cure diseases America is a Christian nation Vaccines go against god.
Shitposting aside, wasn't tropical disease not that bad in issue in 'Nam because of how aggressively the medics would try to find it early?
Even if we invade today the shows not getting made for about another 5yrs after..
Well, invade faster then
The book is better anyway.
I never read the book but seeing Alexander Skarsgard and James Ransone's performances I kinda doubt that

I get my news from this subreddit and I had to check if Trump invaded Venezuela yet because of you
I'm just waiting for the announcement of the next major scandal, and then I expect war.
Unless Hegseth has drunk himself under the table again and can't pass on the order.
Our military is truly in the "lions led by donkeys" era.
Someone get that idiot another bottle! Maybe we do a group buy? Cheaper and will save more lives than donating to MSF at this time of year.
Christ, my first thought was are we contracting this one out? before remembering there are other MSFs than the one Big Boss led.
It will happen in the midterms to avoid elections
I wasted my time watching that stupid address to the nation Wednesday night because I was convinced he was going to announce war. And honestly I wish he did instead of blabbering on about some bullshit for 30 minutes.
I'm betting on Tuesday.
Wanna bet the camo will be all desert this time?
I'm betting 50 pesos that it'll be the infamous UCP
Faded multicam is really quite close to desert colours I heard.
It also works in the jungle. Real versatile stuff.
Some gear company announced they're doing multicam tropic based on interest from socom.

I read that in Chalmer's voice from the Simpsons
If anyone could do it it would be Ray running on zero sleep, six ripits, and half a can of copenhagen.
Blind as a motherfucker in his piece-of-shit NVG's!
If you want something impossible to be done, just get some guys that don't know that it is to do it.
Fkin Encino Man, thinking he's all tactical and shit.
Ray, the battalion commander offered no sitrep as to J-Lo's status.
I can't wait to see bored men singing high pitched pop music in their M-ATV
https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/1647dgh/footage_of_afu_heroes_vibing_in_their_car_to/
they won't beat this one
Even if we invaded, I'm not sure we'd get a GK2. Evan Wright (Author of Generation Kill) committed suicide in July 2024. RIP.
Best modern military TV show ever made. Period.
It was modern when I watched it, but now? Not enough drones for it to be really modern.
Ray how much white monster have you ingested?
I'm on it like a motherfucker Brad.
5 zynns stuffed in each lip
Rip Evan, a true inspiration for me personally. Don't forget to pick up the book if haven't already
3 Days to Caracas.
Maracaibo becomes Fallujah 2: Jungle Boogaloo
CAUSE IM JUST A TEENAGE DIRTBAG BABY
It's nice having friends!

Pre vis always looks worse
At least they’d get to invade a cool country with chicks in bikinis and shit
Dont forget grooming standards *clears throat, deep brath POLICE THAT MOUSTACHE
While we're at it, can we get Jarhead 2 as well?
They made it already and it wasn’t good
can we not just send a buncha guys that look like jimmy buffett with cash and guns to do this shit united fruit company style? cause i feel like that just makes more sense for the reigon
Wake up Trombley, you're missing the invasion!
MORE LIKE TROMBLEY???

Peak mentioned RAHHHHH
Generation kill 2 : in the jungle
Aw, fuck. Again?
Just started reading that book last night
Love that show
Warrior check just hit navy fed lets fuckin storm the jungle
WMD smoking gun something
When the Man Comes Arounds Externally.
What songs do you think marines will be singing rolling through Venezuela?
God I love that show
At least this country would be worth invading according to Ray
Big booty latinas and cocaine. I can see why he'd enjoy it.
There is a scene where he whines and says “why can’t we ever invade somewhere cool with sandy beaches and women in bikinis.”
Venezuela has those?
Genuinely asking.
Venezuela boasts stunning Caribbean beaches, with highlights including the pristine, turquoise waters of the Los Roques Archipelago (Cayo de Agua, Madrisqui) and the lively, kitesurfing-friendly Isla Margarita (Playa El Yaque, Playa El Agua), plus unique spots in Morrocoy National Park (Cayo Sombrero) and along the mainland coast (Choroní, Bahía de Cata)

I desperately want another mini-series in the same style as GK, maybe about the US in Kosovo or Panama
Maybe check something out from beyond the pond, then?
