We usually have a pet sitter because we also have two dogs and would rather not kennel them. If we're just gone for a long weekend, the cat is perfectly fine on her own for that amount of time, we just make sure there's extra food and water...she always seems a little disappointed when we get back home.
We have a cat sitter who I actually went to middle and high school with 30 years ago and she will sleep over even. She charges more for sleepovers obviously but she even brings her own air mattress and bedding and will literally camp out in my living room and help herself to whatever she wants to eat or she can set her air mattress on top of my bed for all I care or I will leave her clean sheets and she can sleep in the bed and be comfortable. But she has a whole go bag that she uses for overnight stays and I've hired her to stay multiple days before when we went to Jamaica. Hard to find someone you trust but I've known her for like 40 years literally. But that's what we do my wife and i, we just hire Donna our pet sitter :-)
