ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The driver of the car that plowed into a Kroger in Athens was arrested Tuesday, according to Athens-Clarke County jail records.

The driver was identified as Lonneshia Appling, 40.

Appling was charged with serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs and possession and use of drug-related objects.

On Dec. 16, a car crashed into the store on Alps Road, smashing through a glass-paneled wall and into a checkout counter.

At least five people, one employee and four shoppers, were hit by the car, according to a police report.

Four of the people hit were treated for their injuries, Athens-Clarke County police said. One of the customers had a suspected concussion, and another had a laceration on his left arm.

The police reports states the Kroger employee suffered a possible skull fracture.

The police report also states Appling’s car sat in the lane between parking spaces for about four minutes before suddenly accelerating and crashing through the store.

She had a suspended license at the time, according to police.
