Like a few fromsoft fans, I am very curious about the upcoming game; Duskbloods. Though, I'll admit, since learning it is going to be multiplayer focused like Nightreign, I became less excited. The first time I saw the trailer, I assumed we'd be getting a Switch 2 exclusive Bloodborne but with vampires.

I am genuinely curious what Fromsoft's next mainline game is going to be. I've been a fan of Fromsoft's souls-like games since Dark Souls 2 (which is my favorite of all their games) Part of me hopes we get a Dark Souls Trilogy remaster for the switch 2. The chance to play 2, and 3 on fresh, new release servers again would be so amazing. I miss the goldenage of pvp when those games were new,

Anyways, back to the topic on hand;

Nintendo loves to experiment with their IP's. We know that. So far we are getting a lot of sports and racing games with mario characters. On the switch we got an X-com mario game. We've had Mario Rpg's SO my question is, would Nintendo ever partner with fromsoft to make a a nintendo-themed souls-like with nintendo characters?

Obviously Zelda games have a lot in common with Souls games . One could argue that games like Ocarina of time served as early blueprints for what souls games came to be and the obvious choice for a nintendo-themed souls game would be zelda themed but there is definitely some potential there.

Maybe if duskbloods does well we could see a future collaboration between fromsoft and Nintendo.

What do you think?

  • A Dark Souls Trilogy would finally make me buy a Switch 2

Smarter than me. I already bought one with the HOPE we get a trilogy remaster. Well, I bought it for Duskbloods and Eldenring as well. Let's hope we get those soon enough.

This seems like such a slam dunk that it kind of surprises me it hasn't been announced yet.

  • I've said it before, and I've said it again - I want a Nintendo soulslike in the Metroid universe where you play as a Chozo warrior, long before the Samus Aran era.

Raven Beak Origins would go hard as fuck. Like a story all about how the warrior clan worked with and eventually betrayed the Thoha on SR388 before Metroid II

  • I don't think it would happen, only because Nintendo tries to go for mass appeal (Edit: to clarify, by "mass appeal" what I really mean is "accessible to all ages") in basically all of their games. Soulslikes do not have mass appeal due to their intense difficulty. At the very least, I don't think it'll happen with an existing IP.

I don't get the impression they care about mass appeal THAT much considering they've not only published stuff like Bayonetta and Astral Chain with third-parties squarely targeted at older audiences, but stuff they do have a hand in like MercurySteam on Metroid or their Warriors collabs with Koei Tecmo are basically only going to be novel for established fans of the particular series they're set in. Not to mention Nintendo even agreeing to help FromSoft make a big exclusive multiplayer game which will no doubt build on something like ER Nightreign shows that they've grown well past the perception that they're just 'for the families.' The last time they were actually careful about how they portrayed a particular public image specifically around the consoles and games they made compared to other consoles, was like the mid-late 90s when they had the monopoly over console gaming to even exercise that kind of jurisdiction onto not only their own games, but developers who made games for them

You can't really predict this kind of stuff with Nintendo. Everyone thinks they 'get' them and then they do weird shit just because. Even entertaining that a Nintendo system would get a Hidetaka Miyazaki game was like make-believe this time last year

Bayonetta and Astral Chain were new IPs, so that would fit with what I said. I should clarify because mass appeal wasn’t exactly the right phrase: they’re fine with niche genres and gameplay, but they generally want them to be accessible to all ages.

Breath of the wild has monsters that are as difficult as souls enemies.

What? I’m assuming you mean a Lynel and they’re nowhere near their equivalents in a Dark Souls game

  • I’m more excited about the multiplayer because I don’t have enough of those experiences on Nintendo.

  • Doubt it. Nintendo for the most part likes to keep their collaborations to a minimum for some reason. I wish they wouldn't because they always seem to strike gold when they do (Mario + Rabbids, Starlink, Astral Chain, Super Mario RPG).

However, there is room for optimism since Nintendo IS showing more effort with just the amount of 3rd party support in general.

I wish they'd work with more indie devs like for Cadence of Hyrule :O

I always thought a studio like Inti Creates would've done a banger Zelda II remake or even just a Zelda side-game that took from Zelda II mechanically if given the chance

Elliot Quest kinda is indie Zelda 2 :D

  • The only possible way I would play a Nintendo-made Soulslike is if they completely redefined what that means, thereby making it not a Soulslike.

I don't think they're asking for a Nintendo-developed Soulslike, but a FromSoft-style game using Nintendo characters and settings. Like the stuff they already did with the Musou crossovers

That changes nothing about what I said.

Based on what you said I only really get the impression you just don't like Soulslike games. It sounds like you're basically asking for Nintendo to just do a game in a different genre

    That was the point, yes.

    So like

Why are you even in this thread lmao

Because OP ended their post with “what do you think”, and I answered.

I’m getting seriously concerned about the lack of reading being done on this subreddit, y’all.

    Grass touching may be required.

Yes, you two clearly need to go recenter yourselves.

Seriously, though, why are you going to end your post with “what do you think” and then jump on people telling you what they think?

I'm jumping on you? Ma'am this is a wendys.

What you said doesn't really make sense though. They don't need to redefine anything.

In order for me to play it, they need to redefine it.

  • I could see it being a good fit for:

Kid Icarus (great fit as they've never done much with it)

Metroid (but perhaps a non-samus character side story)

Balloon fight (why not! blank slate + interesting travel in an open world)

Golden Sun's world and setting would fit with an elden ring like open world with summons

  • I don't think that's in the cards for Nintendo. Also you want 2/3 on switch to do pvp but lost some enthusiasm for the upcoming fromsoft game which seems to be mainly pvp? I honestly never like pvp in dark souls. I loved coop but when I'd get invaded it was so annoying

The thing I liked about Dark Souls pvp was the fact that it presented as a singleplayer experience but real players can show up as an extra obstacle, or you can hop in as an obstacle in someone elses game.

I loved being invaded and I loved invading. My favorite part was the threatrics. Yes there were plenty of people just looking to ruin someone elses day. There were also plenty of people who just assumed that's what all invaders are doing and so they are not going to view it as a positive experience regardless.

    I adored the theatrical players.

The people who would build their entire character around a gimmick. The people who didn't just use the most OP stuff. The people who clearly had a theme in mind when they built their character, from the name to the look to the build and match it to their behavior. Most of my most memorable experiences from Dark Souls 2, 3 and Bloodborne are from other players. The very first invasion that ever happened to me was one of these moments I never laughed so hard in my life.

It shaped how I play the game. I'd roll up a new character everytime I had a new idea. I knew where every item was including the most obscure stuff so I could build my character quickly and efficiently. Whether I was co-oping, invading or getting invaded i'd do all sorts of weird stuff. sometimes if I was in a real fighting mood I'd challenge myself with a very weak build and invade and try to take on 3+ person gank squads and have the time of my life.

Sometimes I'd make a character themed with an area and put my sign down all day to help with that specific boss.

Sometimes i'd use the item that allows me to get invaded and pull a "i'm not trapped in here with you, you're trapped in here with me."

pvp during the heyday of ds2 and ds3 was a blast.

I don't really care about a game focused on pvp. tons of games like that out there and they're all boring.

  • I guess there's a chance for Soulframe.

  • Next Zelda will souls like

  • Souls game sucks, id rather have more ninja gaiden, devil may cry style nintendo games

We are all entitled to our opinions.
