  • was playing stardew valley and my extremely new OLED crashed. The screen went fully black but a buzzing sound could be heard coming from it. I pressed the power button to reset it and then it worked fine. What does this mean? Is it broken and will crash again? I’ve had this OLED for less than a month.

If you can't reproduce it, a repair place can't diagnose it. While your description didn't sound good, if it only happens once, it could have been a freak thing. If it happens again, you could likely justify replacing it/warranty, in which case you'd have to transfer your save data (be aware, save data is stored on switch internal storage - its' never on the sd or game card.)

In the health section of switch settings, there's a history of error codes. You can plug error codes into the search bar of nintendo support site.

  • If I do load the Switch 2 upgrade pack for a game I have on Switch 1, can I still play that game on my Switch one at a later time?

At the moment I keep my Switch 2 docked and use my Switch OLED portable.

The answer depends on the game. You'd have to specify the game or games. Some games only let you do a one time transfer of save data. I have to claim ignorance on which games allow that. Unfortunately, I think most people never go back to switch 1, so that narrows the pool of people that have first hand knowledge of whether you can bounce back and forth between switch 1 and switch 2 versions of a game. Try asking again with specific games in today's current daily question thread, pinned to the top of r/NintendoSwitch, because that's where eyes will be now.

    Thanks. Really Appreciate You.

If you use the cloud system transfer, which does not require both systems to be on hand, it WILL factory reset the console after you upload the system image to the cloud.

If you use the local or "I have the new system" transfer, which requires both of them in the same room it merely copies your data from one system to the other. Leaving almost all of your data and profiles intact. Games that do not support cloud saves like Animal Crossing and Pokemon games, get moved; not copied. There is nothing stopping from moving it back after the system transfer.

  • Going on a flight later this month and bringing my Switch 2. Should most games work in airplane mode? I do plan on firing up some of the NSO classics apps the day before since I know they need to check licenses but I assume I should be fine unless it's something online only right?

If you have their virtual game card loaded on the console, yes. That and the online checks would cover all your bases.

  • Are there any good, technical reviews of Switch 2 third party docks out there?

I have some Amazon Credits and, regrettably, Amazon doesn't carry the official one and I want a second dock (not for travel; just a different room, so portability isn't really a concern).

    https://www.gamesradar.com/platforms/nintendo-switch-2/one-of-the-few-third-party-switch-2-docks-that-work-is-back-down-in-price-but-im-still-furious-at-nintendo/

This article has a pick and a link to a previous review of it.

There actually isn't that many working third party docks due to Nintendos encryption changes. And you don't want to get stuck with a no-name option that might stop working in the future due to a simple system update.

I'd shop around for something with proper support behind it

  • Are DLCs with switch online expansion pack region locked? A couple years ago I bought Octo Expansion, however I couldn't play it because my game card is from the US and the DLC I bought was EU (I'm also from the EU. I bought the physical game online.) I know the DLC is on the expansion pass but I don't want to waste my money if it'll still be region locked.

Splatoon 2 specifically is a regional exclusive* title. It has unique releases in NA, PAL and Japan. And those versions require matching regional dlc.

Good news though! The subscription itself is region free, so you could subscribe, change your region to the US, Install the US DLC from the NSO app, and then switch back without issue.

Im only subscribed on my main US account, but I have the JP classic game apps installed since they have a couple of different games not available in the US.

Edit: changed locked to exclusive, it's not locked to any region; just dlc

Okay thank you! Just checking: are you 100% sure that'll work? I don't want to spend extra money on the expansion pass just for me to not be able to play octo expansion.

    Yes.

DLC can only be used with versions of Splatoon 2 that are intended for the same region where the DLC was purchased. (For example, DLC purchased with an Australian Nintendo Account will not work with a Japanese version of the game.)

Since you know you have a US copy. You just need to grab the US DLC. It will be in the NSO app on the home menu, not the eShop.

Changing your account region via the website may be greyed out initially, as having auto-renewal for NSO enabled disables it. Once you cancel auto renewal it will be made available again.

    Disable auto renewal

    The edit your user information under account info;

  • I have a switch 2, my brother has a switch 2. We live at opposite ends of the country.

I have a massive digital games library and he has no games as he’s just got his switch 2.

He has his switch set as my linked console, so can play all my games while logged in as his own account.

I can play them all using the online licence feature.

The question I have is, does this work with dlc?

So I want to get the breath of the wild expansion pass, and know it used to work no problem for us both using primary/secondary, but since it’s changed to the new system, I’m not sure.

Yes. DLC is treated the same as digital game licenses. If you have a digital version of the game it's associated with, the DLC's virtual game card will tie itself to the game so there's only ever the one virtual game card to manage. But if you have a physical copy. The DLC will have its own unique virtual game card that can be managed separately when the game isn't inserted.

However the DLCs included with the Nintendo switch online expansion pack are not treated the same. They count as subscription benefits and are not sharable in the same manner.

    Thank you….

So my brother could use the dlc, and then I opt out of game cards, and use it on mine using the online licence verification and id be allowed to play it, because it was my account that bought it?

  • my nintendo switch app shows this screen after redownloading (after months of not using it). I've had a break in my nintendo online subscription inbetween.

If I press on the sign in or the help button nothing happens at all! no redirection or popup window.

My account is still linked to a console (same as before the break) and I've tried severaly fixes including clearing cache and redownloading the app again but the screen doesn't change.

I couldn't find any similar post on the internet at all which is why im resorting to this, any help apprechiated!

Unfortunately the only fix I've ever found is leaving the app installed and waiting for a update and hoping that fixes it.

I had the exact same problem with mine back in ~2021. It just logged me out one day and I couldn't use it for months.

Do you have a windows PC? Windows 11 has a built-in android emulator, you might be able to spoof your own phone and sign into the app using an APK. Which is a crazy amount of effort.

  • My son was just triple-diagnosed with Pneumonia, Flu A, and an ear infection. He’s going to be on the couch a while. Any game recommendations for a kid that can’t read super well and that he can play solo.

I’m working at the same time so I need one that hopefully would require minimal guidance from a parent.

He likes TMNT Shredder’s Revenge, Mario Kart, Bluey, and Smash Bros. Animal Crossing, Pokémon, and Zelda are fun to play together, but required too much reading for him to play solo.

He primarily plays on the Switch but I also have a PS5.

Thanks! And wash those hands and make sure to get a flu shot. Can’t even imagine how much worse it would have been without one.

I think I saw your post earlier. He's 5, right? Some recommendations that we've gotten my 7yo daughter:

    • Bluey game
    • Animal Crossing (but depending on his reading level he might need some help in some parts)
    • Mario Kart World has an assist mode that might make it easier for him

Immortals Fenyx Rising (similar to Zelda BOTW)

Hot Wheels Unleashed 1 or 2 (built-in track builder and file sharing!)

    Lego City Undercover

Lego Star wars the Skywalker saga (all 9 movies!)

    Castle Crashers

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom battle (turn based!)

    Minecraft

  • Have a Switch 2 that will frequently reboot itself/shutdown into sleep mode without any input, happens both during games and while at the home screen.

Have tried troubleshooting it, or searching for a similar issue with no luck. Unsure if I'm just using the wrong search terms or if it's just an uncommon issue. Quite frustrating

Does the power button feel weird or inset at all? It could be stuck in a semi-depressed position. Causing inputs at seemingly random times.

Not sure what it's supposed to feel like, it looks a little depressed compared to the other buttons on it, but it pressed down fine enough.

Contacted Nintendo to see about a repair anyway. Not confident with opening it to tamper with it. Thanks.

Yeah wouldn't suggest that for a switch 2. It's exceedingly more difficult just to open up, let alone repair internally.

I had my fingers crossed that maybe wiggling it with a toothpick might free the internal power switch from any pressure it's under and resolve the problem. But of course that was a very slim possibility.

Never heard of a similar case. I would suggest backing up your stuff and getting a repair under warranty.

That's what I've ended up doing, hopefully won't take too long. Thanks.

  • The sound of my switch is not working. The only exception is when I use my headphones. What should I do

Either listen exclusively through headphones, send it to Nintendo to fix, or find a local store that can fix it
