Excluding Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter which has already been announced, there are currently 6 unannounced titles in development which includes:

  • A Switch 2 port of an existing title (any guesses?)
  • Another multiplatform port (Y's 7 remaster?)
  • A new Trails game (Trails Beyond the Horizon 2/Kai no Kiseki 2 most likely)
  • A new Y's game (either Y's 11 or Y's 5 remake)
  • Kyoto Xanadu/Tokyo Xanadu 2 which was announced a few years ago
  • An unspecified 6th game (brand-new franchise)
  • focus on increasing number of released titles per year

Imo they already release more then enough games per year. I can barely keep up

There's a bunch of rereleases(port remaster remake) in their recent portfolio (Proud Nordics, Trails in the Sky first chapter, YS Memories series). They have an intention of finishing the storylines for YS and Trails in their lifetime, so there is no choice but to increase production somehow.

where have they said that for Ys? there are canonically 100 travelogues so unless they cut some of them there's no way the whole storyline is getting completed in anyone's lifetime

I've been trying to find the statement about wanting to finish Trails without success.

With the secret cutscene at YS X, I pretty much take the case they also meant to release the last travelogue sooner than later.

  • ...is it too much to ask to get a Ys collection that has the old versions of the games like the TG16 port of Ys Books 1 and 2?

The Ys 1 & 2 Chronicles versions are more likely than the TG-16 version I think.

Falcom doesn't seem too keen on rereleasing the "non canon" versions that were developed by third parties.

  • No apostrophe in Ys

And in case anyone cares, it's pronounced like the word "ease."

That was bugging me too. Tectoy released a version for sms like that but still.. There's an old advert think for sega that called it Y/S 🤣😭

  • I do hope they do upgrade packs. Their games are quite expensive 😅

  • If the quality's there, then yes please

Lately they have been very successful, like the strike of their recent titles is impressive…

Absolutely. I'm not a big fan of the current Trails arc, but I don't put that on the account of increasing the release pace

  • I'm all for more! as long as they don't start pulling off multiple releases like they have with Ys X, not that I've got there yet, on Ys IX so I thankfully didn't fall to buying Nordics before Proud Nordics but sucks for those that did.

Probably about halfway through Daybreak atm and I've been enjoying the hell out of Trails over the past couple years so I'm all for them to keep pumping those out, haven't read too much on how people feel about the titles and while some are weaker than others they've all been enjoyable and the Sky 1st Remake was great.

I'll be curious to see how Tokyo Xanadu 2 turns out, I wasn't really a big fan of it, ended up feeling like a chore to play through compared to Trails/Ys for me.

  • I hope they localize Cold Steel 1&2 in a double pack

Yea I’m hoping for this as well. The switch is such an awkward way to start the franchise because of the lack of cold steel 1&2. Well it was till we got the remake of 1

YES! It’s so weird that they haven’t localised them for the switch

    Blame XSEED for that

  • They need to give us NS2 Editions for Ys 8, 9 (I’d say 10 too but we have Proud Nordics so likely not happening) and Trails of Daybreak 1 and 2, at least. The rest of their Switch lineup looks fine but I wouldn’t complain about simple resolution and framerate bumps. These also need to be upgrade paths with save data carrying over for existing NS1 owners. If not, my interest in upgrading goes from 100 to 0 immediately

We have a Switch 2 edition of 10. It's called Proud Nordics.

insert vegeta under the rain meme

  • I have seen this posted on just about every gaming discussion subreddit and I feel like I'm the only one who realizes this never goes well. I hope they are the exception, but history has proven that when game companies scale up, quality goes down.

  • There is definitely a Trails in the sky 3rd Chapter already in development, so it can be released in 2027. That’s for sure. I would bet that the next proper instalment will release in 2028!

And I would love to see all YS available on PS5/Switch.

I would personally prefer if Skies 3rd was the next one to get a remake, skipping that and going for Zero doesn't seem right especially with how much world and lore building along with foreshadowing (at the time when 3rd was initially released at least) it plots out for the future games.

It's also a pretty divisive game since the doors gameplay structure wasn't received well, a remake is a good chance for Falcom to keep the important plot points but change up the gameplay and progression system

Also liked how it expanded on several key character's past backgrounds and explains their motivations in the narrative

  • Cold steel 1 and 2 ffs 🤦

  • Love to see it. One of the best developers, and their Switch 2 ports so far have been excellent

  • Switch needs Cold Steel 1 and 2, and then switch 2 patches for at least daybreak 1/2 would be nice.

Technically Switch does have Cold Steel 1&2, it just doesn't have an English translation or release outside of Japan/Asia

  • Falcom are the most consistently great developers out there besides Nintendo. And they do it with like 0.1% of the budget and manpower.

  • publishing more Switch 2 ports

The only thing worth praising here...

The other devs should pick up the pace and make haste.

  • Does this list include Ys Memoire Celceta and Ys X Proud Nordics?

Nope, as those are already out in Japan and not published by Falcom in the west.

  • As long as they’re on the cart, I’m there.

Given proud nodics was a gkc, probably not.

There are smaller (and for sure cheaper) carts available now; and I hope Proud Nordics bombed hard, so they reconsider.

I wouldn't hold my breath. It could happen but it's still going to be cheaper to use a gkc. Especially if the AI driven shortages continue.

For sure, but it is a very bad practice, imo, especially for a smaller company reliant on good will and with a physical heavy focus target group.

Instead of saving 5-10$, they are losing my 70$ entirely. If they can replace me with 7 other 🔑, it would (probably) be worth it.

  • Hopefully full game on cart. Now that there's smaller ones coming.

  • Remember that Nihon Falcom is very much a Japan-focused company. It is very likely the titles will take a while to release in English if at all.

They’ve had simultaneous worldwide releases for the Sky remakes, and if these are just primarily ports then the localization is done already, there’s no reason why a lot of it should have a big gap

I'm not saying its 100% going to happen here. But prior history for Falcom stuff has been.... inconsistent at best. Namely with all the stuff handled by NiS America.

  • The S2 version is probably Tokyo Xanadu as the S1 version wasn't that good. Plus, it'll get people up-to-date for the sequel.

But, if they're doing that then I hope we get a PS5 version too as the Switch version has the 'new' localisation that the PC got when it was ported there long after the PS4 and Vita version

  • Kyoto Xanadu

    Colour me interested!

  • Quality > Quantity please. I hesistated buying their games because they look like borderline PS3 games on the PS5.

Falcom is a top-tier developer, graphics be damned.

I really don’t like how it feels they divide 1-2 games worth of content into 3-4 full priced games full of filler. To me it feels like they are trying to get as much money from people who have already invested too much time and money into the series because lack of new fans.

They're good at what they do but I really do not agree. They've been resting on their laurels with trails for the majority of the franchise at this point, YS has been meh since 8...and with how many titles those series have that's all the big things they've been doing.

They're in a similar position to where yakuza was around yakuza 5 or 6, now let's see if they're as smart as sega and actually try to take a leap forward instead of stagnating.

At least make the graphics palateable if you're gonna charge 60+ dollars for a game. I'm not asking for PS5 type photorealism.

Did you not see how good the TiTS remake looked?

I love that this is the abbreviation for this game. Schera approves.

I just started this game and immediately upon encountering her I IM'd a friend, "I found this game's Tits McGee."

They really introduced her boob-first too when she's reading her cards lol.

But she's actually a great character despite that. You'll see as you play more.

Besides that all their older games really do look like PS3 Games. YS X and Trails of cold steel 4 looks cheap.

    Ys. Not YS. Not Y's.

Having been going through the Falcom games for the past year or so I feel like once I hit like Ys 9/Cold Steel 3 they were decent enough and now playing Daybreak and the new Trails Remake I've almost been blown away with how far they have come for a studio using their own engine which feels are these days.
