Should I get the switch 2?? (And don’t be biased) I’m thinking about getting the switch 2 but I’m not sure if I should get it now or later because I don’t know if they’ll lower the price or if it will just be better to get it in 2026 or later and if you want could you give game recommendations any games (I like Pokémon and Mario games)
A Lower price isn't expected. For the life of switch 1, the console retail price never dropped. To sweeten the deal (in the US), they only bundled a game, gave a free Nintendo Switch Online subscription, or around 3-4 years after launch, a black friday sale might knock $5-@20 off.
And with the RAM thing and flash storage shortage, price for switch 2 is expected to potentially increase.
Although, around two years after launch, which would be 2027, Nintendo might offer a new cheaper model like the Lite, but the Lite is strictly handheld, lacks the hardware to output video & it cannot dock.
If you didn't have a Switch 1, Switch 2 can play switch 1 games, and switch 1 had heavy hitters, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, if you like a shooter, Splatoon 3 is excellent. Other genres that are popular, but I'm not into - Xenoblade, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Fire Emblem. I don't play turn based stuff, although Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle was pretty darn good.
Nintendo in recent years mostly prefers not to reveal games until around 6 months before release. We know Splatoon Raiders (a single player game) is coming in 2026, and 2026 is Zelda's 40th anniversary, rumor has been that there's going to be a modern remake of Zelda Ocarina of Time, but nothing has been announced yet. Around late January-February, or maybe March, Nintendo tends to reveal some upcoming games by a Direct or possibly a trailer drop.
I think the general expectation is that its going to get more expensive as this RAM and silicon shortage gets worse, Playstation 5 and xbox series already increased their prices. But that does depend on what country you are in. Black Friday had small discounts across europe due to overstocking, but not US where demand is higher.
Did you get a switch 1? If not then switch 2 is an amazing purchase as you have 8 years of switch 1 games to get stuck into, many of which have upgrades for the sw2 making it the best place to play them. Do you have other consoles? If so you probably won't care about all the high quality 3rd party games coming to sw2 like cyberpunk, street fighter 6, ff7r and resident evil 9, but it will be the best place to play these games portably. If you had a sw1 and played all the games, but not gotten a sw2, probably the most reason to hold back as there does not seem to be many killer apps yet, Mario Kart World is great, but not as good as 8DX, Donkey Kong Bananza is incredible, but its 1 game. Kirby DLC is good not great, Kirby Air Riders is great, but niche, hyrule warriors is great, but niche. Pokemon ZA and Metroid prime 4 are good, but are fine on sw1. I love the sw2 for larger screen and better controllers but could see why someone would hold back if they games they want arent there yet, but as someone who uses switch as primary console, its a no brainer.
What game should I get??? I wanna get a Nintendo game for Christmas but I have no idea what to get bc I never use my Nintendo switch and idk any games… I’ve only played animal crossing, Zelda breath of the wild, super Mario party and Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. I especially rlly liked Mario party and Zelda breath of the wild. Can someone please recommend me some games I should get or some of your favorite games?? I think I would like anything but I kinda want smth like multiplayer but honestly it doesnt matter the price doesnt matter either
If you like a first person or third person shooter, Splatoon 3 is excellent. Turf War is the main attraction, but after a while, Salmon Run became my favorite mode. I've been playing Salmon Run fairly steady since Splatoon 2. Don't get splatoon 2 for online play, it's hard to get matches since most everyone moved on to Splatoon 3.
Have you tried Rocket League? I don't like free to play games or sports games, but I have loved Rocket League - I got it back when it was a paid game, before they went free to play. I still play it. There's a ton of depth, it's skill based. (if you get it, disable camera shake and weather effects for better game performance)(first time you boot it up, it will ask to make an account for the cross platform save structure, but you can just use your existing nintendo account login to sign in) Try the tutorial. Casual 3v3 matches you with an array of skill levels, so you may see some crazy skills, but the teams still aim to be even-ish skill-wise, but Casual can show you what's possible. If you prefer to stick wtih your own skill level, play Ranked, it's focused on keeping you with similar skill level players.
Thank you so much!!
If you want another game very similar to BotW, Tears of the Kingdom is a no brainer.
I personally think that Smash Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are probably the two best multiplayer games on the Switch 1.
Thank you!!
Mclassic has brokem my TV, stretching it out super weird
Does it work fine with just a normal hdmi cord? You can see if the tv has an update or if unplugging the tv from the wall for a few minutes resets the tv.
How is the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection for someone who missed on the originals? I heard the originals were harder righ5?
Hi all,
I got a Switch 2 today, I have the OLED version of the Switch 1 but not played on it in quite some time.
Was really excited to play the Switch 2, but I've noticed some kinda motion blur or ghosting or something going off in my games? If I dock and use my TV it's perfectly fine but the handheld screen seems absolutely awful? Is it just me? Did I get a bad unit? I mostly play in handheld mode so this is really disappointing, almost unplayable as I start to focus on it too much.
Unfortunately thats just how the switch 2's screen is...
It has a pretty poor response time so frames kinda linger and thats what you're seeing with the ghosting. Digital Foundry has a video pointing it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uQ5CMfFc7c&t=747s
Oh Christ… how did they mess this up… surely it can’t be that expensive to put a 1-3ms LCD screen on vs whatever screen they have used..
I know Nintendo has gotten greedier than usual lately but this is actually mind blowing.
cheapening out. Its possible it could be updated to overclock it but would use up extra battery and just not likely for them to do
You can almost guarantee they will release a Switch 2 OLED model which will also have a bigger battery. Just a shame this didn’t launch as that.
Is there much (if any) difference between buying a Switch 2 game and buying a switch 1 game then getting the upgrade pack for S2? I'm looking to get sonic racing, and it's currently on sale where I live so would overall be cheaper to buy the switch 1 cartridge then upgrade but will it effect performance at all? Would it be worth waiting for the S2 physical edition to come out instead?
You can still get vouchers and use them on a S1 game + purchase the upgrade. I’ve found that to be the most cost effective way when possible.
Any "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" game is defined as being the Switch 1 game + the Upgrade Pack. If you directly buy a Switch 2 version of such a game, you're still really getting those parts and can still use the game on Switch 1.
The only difference among all possibilities (Switch 1 card + upgrade, all digital, Switch 2 card) would be load times, and the difference would vary by game.
If I set up a Nintendo Switch 2 (add accounts, download and install games, etc), will that show up in any way on an existing Switch 1? I wanted to get everything set up before Christmas to avoid any server issues Christmas Eve, but also don't want to deal with the kid freakout if Switch 2 games show up on their Switch 1 account in any way a week before Christmas.
Switch 2 games do show up under virtual game cards of their linked accounts on Switch 1; you can explicitly hide these.
Additional consoles show up on the website too ( https://accounts.nintendo.com/portal/console )
And any linked emails are alerted when a new console is added.
For kids, you should be able to tackle most of these before anyone notices.
Email and website won't be a problem. I can hide the virtual game cards on the Switch 1. Thanks for the heads-up!
Video sound bar 5.1 issues with the Nintendo switch 2. I get in game sounds but I can’t seem to get menu sounds not eshop sounds very weird
Should I get a PS5 or stick to the NS2 versions of games?
I'm honestly on the fence atp, I've been meaning to get once since launch, but just haven't, but now that I have money i'm thinking about it again. I currently have a switch and fully intend on getting a switch 2, mostly when a game I'm interested in shows up (like the next xenoblade or zelda). Now that FF7R & p3r are on the switch 2, i'm having second thoughts, but at the same time, I do think they would run better on a ps5 anyway, and for some releases down in the future, having a ps5 means I can probably play it at a better quality than I can with a switch 2
The only benefit the switch offers is built-in portability. Don't want to play on a TV anymore? Just pick up the system and go
Games WILL absolutely look and run better on PS5, especially the FF7 remake games.
However playing handheld mode would require a PlayStation Portal, but even that is limited to using your internet connection to stream games from the PS5 to its screen. It cannot run game locally on its own hardware. Not to mention it's ~$200
I was asking myself if you could play Mario Kart with 8 players on 3 switches connected by LAN on one projector?
No.
Online/lan functionality limits you to 2 players per console, so you max out at 6.
Thanks for the quick reply. Is 6 players possible on one TV?
Also no. Single console split screen maxes out at 4 players.
There are games that do support 8 players on a single console/screen though: Smash Bros, Bomberman, Ultimate Sheep Raccoon
Im debating asking for a Nintendo for xmas .. what are your favorite games? For reference i am a 24F
Zelda Breath of the Wild
Mario Odyssey
Other good ones to start with;
Pikmin 3 or 4 (both have free demos)
Animal crossing new horizons
I might not be posting in the right spot, sorry if I'm not. Is it possible to "request" games to be taken into consideration for Nintendo Online? I would absolutely love to play the Nintendo 64 Tetris. I miss it so much.
Nintendo doesn't even take public bug reports anymore, let alone development suggestions.
You basically have to run a whole social media campaign to promote an idea/game just to get their attention.
Or as Picano mentioned, spend an absurd amount of money on stock and become an investor, travel to Japan and try to get a seat at their quarterly investors meeting (though I believe questions have to be submitted ahead of time now, no more hot seat investors)
Ugh. Maybe someday, lol. Thank you.
Nope.
You can try, but unless you speak Japanese and are a board member / investor, it's unlikely.
Hello, I want to ask something. How exactly would it feel playing Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 in the Switch 1? I heard the motion controls are still there and it's more recommended to play docked. However I have Hori Split pads that I've been using forever and they don't work with motion. Would Galaxy 1 and 2 still work for me? Thanks.
Yeah, it works without motion controls. Just keep in mind that you won't be able to collect Star Bits with motion (you'll need to walk into them or touch them on the screen if you play handheld). Also, you can spin with a Y button instead of shaking a Joy-Con.
A little bit furious just now. Amazon just emailed me back telling me my Switch dock that I bought off of the nintendo store is apparently a knock-off or wasn't represented correctly. I have a modded switch 1 so I have been trying to protect this thing since getting a replacement is obviously hard with it not being manufactured anymore. So my question is how bad was using a possible third party dock was for my switch and is possibly upgrading to the oled dock a consideration?
That's pretty weird. Wouldn't be surprised if it's tariff related nonsense with different manufacturing countries over the lifespan of the Switch 1. (Also, I didn't hear anything about stopping Switch 1 production yet. Standalone official docks have always been a little hard to come by though.)
An OLED dock would be fine. Don't know your specific mod setup, but I believe one of the later system updates was required for compatibility with the OLED dock.
Personally I wouldn't mess with any third party ones, but it's been a long time since I've heard cries of bricking. Just be sure to check out all the reviews if you go this route.
Well I've been using this dock for about 2 years now so its before the tariffs. My mod setup is an OG V1 switch so yeah replacements are gonna be hard to find at some point and mine was in super good condition. My back plate hasn't like expanded or anything, but it has creaked occasionally. I just chalked that up to heating components and the fact my backplate has had its screws removed, and also I don't think I could have a spicy pillow battery for about 2 years straight with no issues.
Currently shopping since amazon refunded me the whole cost of the dock and they asked me to destroy it as well. Just looking at the nintendo front store for options of OLED dock vs OG. Just super ticked that hell I can't even trust the official nintendo front store for this sorta stuff.
Huh, think I misunderstood your first post. Now I'm really confused about the Amazon situation. I haven't really shopped with them in a long time.
Direct from the Nintendo store (not the Amazon front) should still be fine, and how I got my switch 2 and previous refurbs. Unfortunately their supply is inconsistent.
We’ve got our son (9 yrs) a Switch 2 for Christmas. He has a switch now with a pro controller. He primarily plays Minecraft and Fortnite with friends and family.
Any know of a 3rd party controller with back paddles and a headphone jack that they can recommend? I know the pro controller 2 has it but man $90 is a lot. We like him to use a wired headset as the wireless ones just cause too many issues and it’s another thing to have to charge. He plays on the TV a lot and it’d be nice to plug into the controller rather than running an extension to the TV.
The pro 2 is the only switch 2 controller with wireless audio support. Every other available controller has to be used wired to transmit audio to its headphone jack.
The other problem is that neither solution allows for Mic audio. The system simply doesn't support its transmission over Bluetooth.
A dedicated wireless headset with its own little USB dongle would be the simplest solution for speaker and mic support, and would allow you to get a cheaper wireless controller since you don't have to worry about a audio jack anymore.
Like these;

https://hyperx.com/products/hyperx-cloud-jet-wireless-gaming-headset
This headset should work according to some reddit posts. It includes a USB dongle for 2.4ghz wireless, and you just plug that into the dock.

I have this joy-con grip that is very simple and has these two notches in the back. There are clips for holding some object and indentations for fingers to remove them. Can anyone help identify what this feature is for?
Game cartridges. You can slide them in and they stay relatively secure.
OMG, of course! I have been wondering about this for a year and a half since I got my switch. I had always assumed it connected to some larger peripheral. Thank you!
I got error code 2165-0001 which isn't documented anywhere but the switch works fine should I be concerned and what does it mean? there's no curropted data or anything
What were you doing when the error popped up?
It is listed in an error database,
165 - Spsm module
165 0001 - PmControl dispatched request timed out.
I don't know what SP means (power state?), but SM is a service manager. This appears to be (one of) the initial power checks for switching from handheld to docked mode.
Pmcontrol definitely would be power management, sounds like the system wasn't correctly docked or perhaps just had a hiccup when docked and couldn't confirm the immediate switch to docked mode
It most likely is since when the error came up I was trying to turn it off
Well just keep an eye out for it if you get more errors in the future. Hopefully it was just a hiccup.
I don't think it's anything to worry about.
If the nintendo support site doesn't have a page for the code, you'd have to contact nintendo support to ask what the code means. If google is correct, the console got stuck in sleep mode or had a connection error, and says to force a reboot by holding power for 13 seconds, and make sure the console is updated, and that's in line for the support page of a similar code 2165-1001.
It looks like you've included an Error Code in your comment. You might learn more about this error code on Nintendo's Support website.

I bought this Switch secondhand so I have no idea what caused the scratches. Is there any way to polish it out or get it lighter?
https://preview.redd.it/kojdp5qyhj7g1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7fb833134b7bafea69807bd6f9feb42cacaa7d28
I don't believe there's a way you can polish it out in a way that will improve it's appearance. Putting a tempered glass screen protector on may help hide some fine scratches, but I'm not sure will improve your scenario. If you want the scratched area gone, the screen would need to be replaced.
A tempered glass screen protector is a good idea day one for any handheld switch since tempered glass has better scratch resistance than the factory screen.
