Although, if they did go in that direction, and Gohan somehow died, what would Trunks do after? Won't he need a new technique or something to overcome those two twins? One thing I would personally like to see is this Trunks guy reviving his timeline's Z-Fighters with the dragon balls from New Namek. You think Bulma would tell her future son about that since she's such a good mother and doesn't want him to live a horrible life?

A lot of Dragon Ball characters and plotlines can sound kind of like this, partly because it codifies a bunch of tropes and leans on even older ones.
