Actually, had Sisyphus reacted like this, he would’ve had a great time in the underworld. H was initially given a choice to either go to the Greek equivalent of heaven, or to push a boulder up a hill. However, if he finished pushing the boulder, he could go back to living on Earth.
So, you are saying Sisyphus essentially could have stopped his pointless task, if he could have let go of his attachment to living again? Sheesh. After a while, he wouldn't even have anybody left who remembers him in the world of the living, so it truly was a Sisyphean task.
Well, technically the deal was that if he attempted to push the boulder, he’d have to push it all the way. He actually didn’t have much of a good life by the time he died. He most likely wanted to go back to the mortal realm to boast about having cheated death. However after a bit of time, he probably realized the trick of it, but was forced to continue. I do like this interpretation though, but I doubt that Hades would design this to be opt out at any time, because of his blasphemy.
This is actually a genius reference to the fact that, technically, Sisyphus never really HAD to push the boulder up that hill- he only did so because, aside from being promised that he could return to the world of the living if he did, Sisyphus took it personally because the same hubris that led him to outplay the Gods made them think he could do ANYTHING.
So he had to push that boulder up a hill or else admit that he couldn't do anything if he wanted to, and here comes this cute lil' chaos goblin figuring out the trick just like that. xD
Greek hell which is more so just the afterlife assuming you weren't an absolute monster that committed every crime in the Greek world, chances were pretty good you'd get into the Greek version of paradise in the afterlife.
