Hello So I know you need karma/ age to post. But how do you even know what is required? Most subreddits just ban you without you even knowing they got requirements.

  • Welcome to r/NewToReddit, /u/MrReadyForY! Thanks for posting. Your post has been flaired 'Needs attention' so we can easily identify which posts require answers. Someone will be along to help you shortly.

  • You won’t be banned for not meeting a community’s requirements but your content may be removed. What may cause issues for you is your visits to “karma farming” subreddits which can lead to bans from some subreddits.

Karma requirements range from 0-?, most subs don’t disclose their karma, account age or CQS minimums as that would defeat their purpose.

Start in some of these subs, they have low or no karma minimums- https://reddit.com/r/newtoreddit/wiki/index/newusersubs

Find some subreddits that interest you and make helpful comments on other users posts. Comment karma is easier to earn when you’re new. Once you’ve earned some karma and learned the basic mechanics of Reddit then move into posting.

  • Finding Subreddit Filters and Levels. These are not always clear:

    • Sometimes you get lucky and subreddits just list their restrictions in their Rules/About Section/FAQ/Wiki/etc.
    • Some subreddits the automod will drop a removal comment that can be detailed or vague.
    • Similarly subreddits can use post and comment guidance to interrupt you when your post will not meet their requirements, again this can be detailed or vague.
    • Unfortunately for some subreddits you are trial and erroring it. Yes this is frustrating. You probably want to try again at your next chunk of karma (25/50/100/200/300/etc), and/or the next age that might get used (3, 7, 20, 30 days). These levels are all customizable

If you are struggling to find subreddits to start off in, Newtoreddit has a list of new user friendly subreddits. (This is not an exhaustive list and these subreddits may still have some restrictions.)

Rule 2: Post to ask questions about using Reddit; This is not the correct place for venting, rants, complaints, inflammatory or loaded questions, debate, user polls, speculation, or suggestions for Reddit

We are happy to help if you have a question about using Reddit, however, in our experience, the above types of post invite more complaining rather than helpful advice, which is the focus of this community. Therefore, would you please take a moment to rephrase your post into neutral terms and make sure you have described your issue as clearly as you can.

As we are not Reddit employees or mediators, complaints about Reddit or moderation are beyond our scope, and we focus on helping users use Reddit instead.

  • because you've been there, please read below: !karmafarms

    Karmafarming/karmafarms:

Asking for karma or up-votes is frowned upon, karma is meant to be earned by sharing quality content or contributions. We caution redditors about karmafarm subs (subreddits promoting free upvotes or karma) because their use may lead to bans in other subreddits. This is due to them becoming associated with spammers, ban evaders, and trolls. We don't allow mention of any karmafarms in this community.
