Hi all, hoping someone can help explain what’s going on here because I’m unsure.
I can send messages to people just fine using the message compose page
https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/
However, when someone replies and I try to open the conversation in the chat window, it often fails. At the top I get an error saying “Unable to show the room”, and if I try to respond anyway it just says “Unable to send message” with no further explanation.
So effectively I can start conversations, but I can’t reliably read or reply to responses, which makes Reddit feel… not very conversational.
I’m not banned as the appeal page tells me as much.
The account is brand new, so I'm assuming it's a new account thing and might ease up after a while, but Reddit does zero job at explaining this if it's the case so I thought I'd ask in case someone has any suggestions.
I promise I am a real life human and not a robot, or three racoons in a trench coat.
I’ve had the same thing happen in two instances on my account- best I can tell is that it could be a frequency thing as I’ve read that’s more sensitive for new accounts, or you are actually just three very convincing raccoons in a trench coat.
They're on to us, boys!

My guy! It’s so true hahaha
Every account has a limit to the number of chats per day. Here’s a guide with some links to more info: https://reddit.com/r/newtoreddit/wiki/common-questions/messaging-issues
That could explain it, hit the daily yapping quota. Thanks!
Don't know, sounds like something three racoons in a trench coat would say
Anywho, it could be because your account is too new, so you'll need to wait a while, or you could have also somehow hit the limit of active chats that can be sent/open at a time or in a day. I think it's likely because it's new 😗so just wait a week and you might be able to. I think an account needs to be at least 7? days old to follow and initiate chats
