I try to follow the rules, but I’m still missing something. How do new users usually participate without getting their content removed? Any general tips would help.

Once you have a good answer you can mark your post as answered by commenting with the exact phrase!answered. Otherwise, a mod will do so as time allows, once an accurate answer has been provided. This makes unanswered posts easier to find.
New users have limitations to where they can post with low karma/low account age. You need to build up your karma to be able to post in more subs.
Karma is like your reputation score on Reddit. Karma comes from upvotes (or downvotes) on your posts and comments from other users. Casting votes does not affect your karma score.
Find some subreddits that interest you and make some helpful comments on newer posts. Join a discussion and politely offer your opinion. Be kind and remember that there are people on Reddit from all over the world. After some time and upvotes, you’ll be able to post in more subs.
