I was scrolling through reddit and I noticed that many posts have many comments but not as much upvotes.

  • What I find surprising is finding answers for people, and they don't bother to upvote. I've found 2 films for people, and they never bothered to upvote for solving it for them. It kinda feels rude to me. I've seen it happen to other people, too. But people are going to people! Some forget also.

People forget or do not think about it some just reply and keep scrolling it is annoying but that is reddit energy

I do believe this is the answer. I can't even tell you how many times I've appreciated a reply that really solved a problem I had too... and then realize later I neither thanked or voted.... made a full-on account to finally remedy this!

  • This seems to be the topic of the month, lots of new users are asking it. It’s hard to really say exactly why.

In my short experience here it is because there are two types of Redditors- The “OMG I have to comment right now!” user who skips right to commenting and forgets to upvote and the “meh, that post isn’t worth an upvote” user.

I’ve answered this exact question for some new users in this sub. My comments received multiple responses but guess what they forgot, the exact thing they were asking about.

It’s definitely frustrating and happens to everyone.

Yep, I only upvote posts if its really good lol

  • Thank you

lol you thanked this person for connecting you to answers to your question but didn’t upvote them. So….i guess you answered your own question.

  • Because this platform is 90% bots.

You should also be aware that your comment and post history is not actually hidden.

  • I don't know. It's annoying.

Many subreddits will remove posts that ask for upvotes as vote farming

Rule 6: Refrain from asking for votes or karma, naming free karma subs, or sharing how you are voting

Please do not ask for karma or votes here, it is against our rules and is generally discouraged as karma is meant to be earned. See Our common questions to learn how to earn karma.

We do not allow mentions of free karma subs (karmafarms) or any suggestion to use them, and caution against their use because it may lead to bans in other subreddits.

Thank you for trying to help, but please don't share how you have or are voting. We encourage earning karma genuinely from relevant comments and conversation. Asking for karma is discouraged as it violates our subreddit rules.

    Thank you!

  • Not everyone is thinking about karma. Many posts are worded to start discussion or ask a question, so it seems intuitive to reply to it with comments. On the other hand many comments are simply self contained opinions, so it seems intuitive to upvote or downvote them. I don’t know exactly how Reddit karma works, but if a post generates a lot of engagement, that should count for something in itself. Upvoting a post before you are going to jump into the discussion feels redundant.

  • I’m also new, hope this helps!

  • If you're new to Reddit, maybe you don't even know anything about upvotes, so it helps if someone explains what they are and what they do or how they affect a post

  • If I'm having a discussion with someone I'm not going to give a thumbs up to everything they say.

I see no reason for correlation between comments and votes one way or another. I could just as easily downvote something I reply to.

  • Idk I pretty much never up and downvote posts. I can't be bothered. Sometimes I'll upvote a comment if I strongly agree with it or downvote if I strongly disagree but also not even always. Rarely even.

  • I always do upvote unless your topic is crazy then I downvote it.

  • Because people aren't there to help! They're all jerks haha

  • They are being careful with upvotes and downvotes

  • Mostly because people say what they gotta say and move on

We strive to be a welcoming, helpful, & understanding community

    • All replies to a post (parent comments) should be a genuine attempt to help the poster

  • The only time I downvote a post or comment is if I find it mean or bigoted. If it’s helpful I will typically upvote it regardless of whether I agree or not. Sometimes I do forget, but not often. It just seems the most friendly thing to do.

  • because i use the upvote like the saved
