  • Kinda depends where in Canada but for the most part you have to do an EMR program and then either get licensed and work as an EMR, or you can go into PCP. The EMR course is anywhere from 2 months to maybe a year depending on the province, and then PCP is another 2-3 years. But it does vary greatly by province

  • Ah I wish I had more information unfortunately I don’t know much about Canadas specific system.

Go for it though!! I would literally just open up chat gpt tell it where I’m located and ask what resources are nearby me. If it’s any similar to USA you should be able to just go for your EMT-B but again I don’t know how it works specifically there. You can also reach out to a local fire department, I’m sure they’d love to guide you towards that career path, or at least be able to point you in the right direction.

Goodluck!!! I had people in my EMT class that were 50, this is definetly very doable just be open to learning

  • Typically the first step you’ll want to take is to attend an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course (unless you’re in New Brunswick, which uses the term Emergency Medical Technician).

Beyond that, everything varies by province. EMR classes will generally provide local information as to how everything works.

Paramedics are not regulated in the territories and you will need to obtain a license in one of the provinces if that’s where you’re hoping to work.

FYI: EMS subreddits often skew heavily towards American commenters, so it is not only helpful but sometimes essential to specify that you’re from Canada.
