I want to travel a lot more frequently but the main way I have seen it being done - i.e extensive research, week long trips, cram everything in, etc - feels very exhausting to do regularly.
I am looking for inspiration on how you may have adapted your travel style to meet you where you are. Maybe it means ditching the touristy spots, travelling only for a couple of days even if you have 10+ day vacation, etc.
Pls share ideas for a neurodivergent person who wants to travel more but is looking for ways to make the experience her own. Thanks!
I travel to conferences based around my special interests if I am traveling alone. If it's within a day's drive I usually go with family since I can't do long distance highway driving.
For staying in hotels, I make the reservation online or have someone help me call the hotel for a reservation, since I can't call most businesses independently. Most conferences I go to have some section of hotel rooms allotted specifically for conference attendees.
For domestic air travel, I try to get to the airport 2 hours before my flight, and go through security first thing if I don't have bags to check. My parents taught me to get to my gate as soon as I finish going through security and wait in that area. I generally don't need sensory equipment in airports but I always bring it in my carry on luggage in case I do need it.
Some airports have a program where you can wear a specific lanyard to indicate that you have an invisible disability. I don't use that lanyard, but I do have an emergency disclosure note on my phone in case I have a shutdown in public.
