• Hi! We did a casual stroll through Bolsward on Friday and I took quite a few photos. Since there were so many, I split them into two posts of 20 photos each. 🍂

    Part 1
    Part 2

Hope you enjoy this collage, Bolsward is such a cozy town to visit!

  • My mom's family used to live across city hall (which was voted second prettiest city hall) If you look closely at lady justice at the front they have 2 set of scales and no sword.

Her arm fell off and they glued is back wrong. So no sword

They lived there when the church burned. Nearly took their house too.

There used to be pictures of the church inside of the church. My opa made a few of those pictures.

    Hessel Eizema was his name.

Hi, thanks for this interesting information. You mean this statue?
I tried to research your claim but could not find it, but this doesn't mean I don't believe it but more to say that not all information is documented online, and one must know to know. Therefore, I appreciate such interesting facts in the comments. Your opa has a really 'Fries' name :) .. I'm not from around but again appreciate your comment. Thank you and maybe you recognize some other streets :)

Ah thanks! I thought the other gate was used to let suspects in to court.

Above the front double stairs. It faces the burnt church if my memory surves. Aah they replaced one with an anchor so it wasn't 2 scales anymore.

  • Should've walked through it at night.

A good suggestion, I can imagine very well what the pictures would look like.

  • Not that I don't like the pictures, because I do, but when did you take them? During the Corona lockdown?

Loads of places look like this, I was in Weesp a few weeks ago and it was just as quiet.

Hi, just made them last friday! .. I guess you mean there are almost no people on the streets. Wel indeed it was really quiet on the streets, except the 'main' street with most shops. I did wait sometimes for people to move but thats about it ;).

  • Looks like every other place in the Netherlands

People do like to visits such places, can’t tell if you like this or not 🤷🏼

It’s beautiful, thank you for sharing !

Ah thanks! Sorry could not tell if you like those cities or not. Sorry for doubting 😇☺️

I’m a different person. That original comment has weird vibes

    Woops, you are correct.

    No it doesn't.

What did they do to the greenery? They dont like gardens, trees, bushes, plants? Looks and feels awfull to me. Just bricks and more bricks.

Edit: just saw part 2 of the pictures. Luckily thats a bit better. At least some trees and public planting in there.

No disrespect for the photographer. Pictures are nice, I ve seen nicer towns though.

Hey, uh, it’s winters not a lot of green in winter

Maybe I left the impression of this place without any green tints to it. There are some parks and green but I chose to post the ones that doesn't contain this. Mostly outside the center there is much green fortunately. Also what not helps is being there in the fall as most green has temporarily withdrawn.

Just even more sad and dead looking.

I’d rather die than to live there.

Being bitter again Betty? Please takes your meds 😋

U can’t tell me this looks appealing sorry

Thanks for being honest. Fortunately people have different tastes but it does kinda surprise me but that’s on me.

  • that glassroofed church is so rad!!! would party there.

We visited this town twice and both times we passed by when people were removing party or celebration items so we could peek inside (after nicely asking). I think it is a venue for weddings or some sort events indeed. Can't tell if you could rave in there (noise issues) but it seems indeed a very pleasant backdrop for having all sorts of events.

  • So pittoreske!

Thanks! .. that was indeed the thought I wanted to express with this photo collection. This isn't the only city that breaths this atmosphere in Friesland (a province in the Netherlands) and if possible do try to experience it yourself. If not, then I hope I could with these photo's (as per my intention :))

  • Get a few bottles of Us Heit while you're there.

Ah, had to look this up, nice suggestion thanks!

  • Looks super empty. Where are all the people?

Maybe inside or at work. Also I waited sometimes so people would get out of the shot. It was busy in the centre though. Sorry for the wrong impression

  • Grey and brown town.

Well it’s that time of the year so kinda expected.

  • Ouwe meuk

Maybe it’s the age gap? Guess you might appreciate it when getting older 😋.
