I knitted this for fun to see how it would turn out, and it’s for a white elephant gift exchange. My friend can’t see the hidden message but my sisters can.
It took me a minute. The darker color is the negative space in the letters - it’s most clear with the “A” in “EAT” in the top line - you can see the “A” in the blue and then from there i was able to see the “E” and “T” emerge
I guessed what it said as soon as I got the first three letters of the last word but it took me a second to see all the letters. But as some people interpreted is eat the rice that's also a good message along with Eat the Rich. I think it would be a great white elephant gift which doesn't that defeat the purpose of a white elephant gift?
White elephant gifts generally can be anything as long as it’s within parameters of spending/subject appropriateness. Usually the sillier the better because it’s fun but I’ve been in white elephants where booze was the predominant theme and people got into wars trying to trade spots or gifts. I went to a few that the only requirement was it had to be anything handmade or homemade. That was the most fun kind because you learn things about the group members - I had no idea my old boss was a huge knitter until he made a glorious scarf for the white elephant. My colleague painted a really cool piece and everyone was fighting trying to get it.
Yes that's the modern rules about 30 or 40 years ago the rules changed in general when people decided they didn't want to give people gifts they didn't want or excess junk. It was originally supposed to be something you didn't want or couldn't use Like An Unfinished project or a empty bottle of booze.
In my experiences, people decided to stop doing it this way because every white elephant seemed to end in at least one person being really upset. Especially when that one person brings a really cool gift that people start fighting over because everything else sucks. I once got a gift so bad I left it at the party and refused to take it home, I told the host to do whatever they wanted with it. It took me days to figure out who even brought it because they wouldn't own up when the room was asked lol
The hand/homemade white elephant sounds so fun. I think that's the best variation of the game I've seen yet.
That was probably the real reason but the etiquette ladies said it was for others reasons. I think it hurt the mean girl party planner types to tell them the truth. I general hate gift exchange games of any kind because they almost end in tears of some kind. I think all party games should be opt in only.
Oh, eat the rich. Nice, took me a second. I thought it was loss at first.
Lmao I thought it said bitch 😂 but looking at it again I see there’s not a T.
Okay thank you. I saw "bitch" too. Hahaha. And I was like "damn, who is the bitch and why are we eating her?!"
I thought it said “hi the rice”.
I thought it said Eat the Rice. 🤔 🍚😂
My partner and I couldn't figure it out until we read the comments tbh. I can kind of see it now but he can't really unfortunately
Eat the rice, yeah? Def should eat the rice. Eat all the rice.
I thought it was an Anne Rice ref I didn’t get lol
That's the only thing I read. Am I missing something?
Rich
Glad I wasn’t the only one who saw rice at first.
i’m not seeing anything

I drew the letters in here
ahhhhh thank you for the picture! i have seen these types of patterns before but for some reason my brain could not figure this one out. thank you!!
Me, too. Even after reading the comments I still can’t see it. What’s wrong with us? lol
I wasn’t either until I focused on the blue area rather than the brown. I hope that helps :)
I like that the message is kind of hidden better than if it was clear.
Also, i saw eat the rich immediately.
Great work, I love it!
The last H needs some work.
Yeah, it looks like an E, which didn’t really occur to me until an hour ago
Nah, it's perfect. Perfect ambiguity. Nice
I love it. And I could read the message ;)
I really thought it said “all the rice” but once i looked better it came through… love it!

I read it partially, and guessed "i'm the bitch" lol
I saw THE RICH part easily
Mi the ???h
Took me a minute to get it but that’s what I love about this! It’s subtle but still makes a statement. Really cool design op
i got it straight away!
I love it! Discreet enough to not draw attention, but enough that people who Know will approve 🤩🤩🤩
