I’ve never had an issue with hair growth and retention so this is quite new to me. I don’t do tight styles, I mainly do “slickbacks” but it’s not tight, I would say I wrap a medium/large hairtie once or twice. No tight braids, sew ins and I do not put wigs on my edges because that’s insane. Btw the photos are from both the right and left side of my head :( what can I put on it?

  • Well I would stop the slick backs and do a style that has you leaves that area alone, like twists. I would also try an affordable hair serum. Recommend the Ordinary's multipeptide hair serum for $15. Apply to area once a day and massage in. Next, try adding more protein to your diet. If none of those things you can do at home work, consult a medical professional before trying expensive and life long hair growth treatments like Monoxodil.

Thank you!!! I was looking to purchase the multipeptide serum

  • I’d go see a Dermatologist. To at least find out the root cause of it. Could be hormonal, could be an immune system issue, could be other things. At least go to see if it’s treatable if caught early or what your options are.

Yeah I would go to your pcp and get a blood test to see if your iron or biotin levels are low.

Yes I did this and my iron levels were crazy low 😀 definitely gotta work on that

Anemia makes your hair fall out and it makes your hair brittle and dry.

It’s horrible😭 this isn’t the first time my hair has fallen out but it’s definitely way worse this time

A hematologist is what you want. Don’t try and treat your own iron by buying and taking a load of iron foods. My hematologist specifically treated my iron anemia with an iron iv drip. Let them advise you on how to maintain and correct your deficiency. I had low iron bc of my menses had became heavier with age.

I was prescribed iron supplements by my gp so I’ve been taking them but honestly I’d rather get the iron iv drip. I feel every time I stop the iron supplements, my iron drops right back down within a month regardless of how long I take them for

That exact thing was happening to me too. In addition to the others advice in seeing a dermatologist and switching up the hairstyle- get a referral to see a hematologist. My cycles became heavier over the years and down went my iron. I would go get the iv once a month , then as it got better -every few months. They are also only around 20 minutes, and I began to feel better almost instantly. B-12 injections give me an energy boost too. Now for me, I did a big chop in August , reduced my stressors which lead to better sleep, cleaned up my health/ diet, started a good and consistent hair routine as well as wearing headband wigs (blunt-cut, curly), and my hair is flourishing! Wishing you good health. 🥰

  • Stop the slickbacks & contact a dermatologist so they can do some steroid injections

  • Stop the slick backs. It’s to harsh for your roots. Leave it out sometimes

This. I use to do puffs and sleek edges all the time. The constant motion of laying down the hair with gel led to my hairline becoming thinner. I stopped wearing gel on my hairline and kept it clean and moisturized and now they’re much thicker.

Lightly mist your hairline with water and massage in castor oil for a minute every few days

The thing is instead of the slick backs she could even like twist it in the front to avoid having to do that all the time. But some people rather have the look at the expense of their hair.

I do not do tight “slickbacks”, it’s more of a puff with no gel or edge control because I don’t like to pull my hair back. Second thing is I do braids and twists with my natural hair, once again nothing is tight because it’s uncomfortable for me. So I didn’t do anything “at the expense of my hair”, my hair just started thinning

We can only look at the photos and others mentioned slick backs as well. You should add this to your posts. But regardless please go to a dermatologist to check out your scalp to stop the thinning.

It is added in the description 😭 but yeah definitely looking into a derm

Yes, I think you’ll feel so much better when you do because they can give solutions that we probably cannot on Reddit.

  • In addition to other comments - even if you don't think a slick back is tight, it's still putting tension on your hair in a position that's it's not necessarily meant to be pulled. On top of that, idk your routine, but a lot of people use gels and/or mousse for the sleek look, and a lot of them are full of alcohol and dry out the hair.

Cut down on the slick backs, and check the ingredients in your products.

This! I just found putting your hair up all the time even if it’s not tight there’s still impact. I always just recommend people to switch it up so put your hair down up, but don’t put it in one style all the time. I have a lot of headbands for that reason.

Yup, and realizing that also motivated me to actually learn to style my hair instead of damaging it just because I wanted something easy to do 😅

We all learn lol 😆 a stylist gave a analogy where you said if you put a rubber band around your risk all the time eventually it would probably get sore and it would suffocate and she said if you constantly put it in a ponytail you’re technically suffocating that one part and that’s why it breaks and that gave me a lot of perspective

I agree! I feel once I switched my gel things started going down hill

  • Go to the dermatologist. I had a very small bald spot with no justifiable reason (no weave, no wigs, no ponytails etc). Turns out I have CCCA (Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia). I was able to start steroid injections and PRP treatments to prevent any further damage and improve current hair loss.

  • Find a black dermatologist to rule out CCCA (alopecia). It could be a number things causing the hair loss (diet, vitamin deficiencies,  product ingredients,  genetics). I agree with whoever said mini twists. That is a low tension style you can wear for weeks and leave your hair alone. I was unable to withstand the painfil injections but the Nutrafol definitely helped me. The good thing is that you caught this early! Good luck!

  • I'm so sorry 😔 My best advice is to go bald and embrace it OR You could wear wigs

Maybe someone has better advice than me. I'm sorry again ❤️🥀

I’m sure it’s plenty of ppl in here with better hair advice than to go fully bald for a small bald spot that could potentially grow back with some changes in routine .

I'm sure there are too. 🥲 I didn't mean to offend anyone.
