Last night, as I was checking my stuff out at Kohls, I overheard the end of a song I was interested in. Problem is, the vocals were too mumbly and soft and the store was too loud, so I couldn't even try to remember some lyrics to help me search for it.
Any help trying to figure out this song would be much appreciated, because it's bothering me.
What I know: It was a soft tropical kind of dance / electronic track, slower beat but still bright, had a little repeating phrase as it ended of very soft steel drums kind of sound. I tried to remember the steel drum beat but I haven't; it was kind of a 'do-do DOOT doo doo doot. There was a soft slightly wistful / melacholic and blurry woman's voice on the lyrics.
It seemed like a more recent kind of sound, like within the last 5-10 years, and like a singer being featured on an electronic / dance artist's track kind of thing but that's just a feeling.
The genre tag is a guess, I didn't hear enough to classify it and even if I did I don't know if I could do so properly.
I know it's not much to go on, but maybe someone works at Kohls and knows what one I'm talking about, or someone is really good at interpreting the little I have to offer ðŸ˜
Just the two of us- Bill Withers
No, it's definitely not that
What You Won’t Do for Love by Bobby Caldwell
I love that one! 🩷
There was a Spanish-language cover done of it in the late 70s that's gotten some nice dancefloor edits as of late — even if it isn't what OP is looking for, it still might scratch the same itch, and I love turning people on to it because it's awesooooooome

An older song that’s made a huge comeback especially on social medias
Kokomo by The Beach Boys? Only fits some of the criteria mentioned but def has a tropical sound and what could be heard as a female vocalist
Nah, I know that one. Definitely more modern
Kygo - Stole the Show
Much closer, but not it. I actually almost compared it to Kygo, just because I recently discovered them.
Gorillaz - Empire Ants
No, it's not that. Sounds cool though
Lily Allen - Smile? That was longer ago. It’s tropical sounding though, kind of a reggae and dance pop vibe.
No, it was definitely more muted and dreamy
My guesses would be Bubbly by Connie Callait or the throwback song Girl from Ipanema
No, too singer-songwriter. It was more blurry chill house kind of sound, idk. It sounded little known and hard to track down 😣
Definitely not Ipanema, just reading it gets it stuck in my head
Hmmmm, not a woman amd not recent but band: Freur song: Doot Doot.
It's a long shot!
Doot, doot, doot, doot (doot, doot, doot, doot) Doot, doot, doot, doot (doot, doot, doot, doot) Doot, doot, doot, doot (doot, doot, doot, doot) Doot, doot, doot, doot (doot, doot, doot, doot)
What's in a name? Face on a stage Where are you now? Memory fades, you take a bow
Here in the dark Watchin' the screen Look at them fall The final scene
And we go doot Doot-doot And we go doot Doot-doot...
Look at them fall Flicker and fade Gone are the screams I put them to bed Now they are dreams
And we go doot Doot-doot... And we go doot Doot-doot...
Doot Doot-doot Doot Doot-doot...
And we go doot Doot-doot Doot Doot-doot
And we go doot Doot-doot Doot Doot-doot
And we go doot Doot-doot Doot Doot-doot
Interesting song, but not it. Doots are too literal, haha.
Lol! Yes...
Friendly Fires - Love Like Waves?
Closer in style for sure, but it was hazier and a female vocalist
I seriously doubt it’s this one, but it’s SUCH a good song:
I Got You - Duke Dumont ft. Jax Jones
Nope, it's not that. I'll have to listen the whole thing though
Check out anything by Kygo or Jonas Blue
Haiti by Arcade Fire
I have been trying to conjure this song all night, I hope it’s what you’re looking for
No, sorry, it's not
Tom’s Diner by Suzanne Vega?
Nope, not that
Dark Rain by Drama? Or Billy (also by Drama)?.
She has a dreamy voice and most of their songs are dancey, so maybe another of theirs if not.
There's some slightly similar vibes, but its not either, alas
The Sweet Escape - Gwen Stefani

No, it's not that
I was in a Sprouts recently and was shocked to hear a song by Wild Belle come on over the PA, a band I hadn't thought of for over a decade. The one I heard was "Keep You" ( https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=EwTQb4V4kcw&si=tiQ_dl3Z3BBb7dUf ) but the doots you mentioned are also reminding me of "Another Girl" ( https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm6-Zg8KC6k&si=iDO60Lfn1m1_32TW ).
No, not those, but I'm intrigued. The sound was much softer and hazier, versus tough and rough.
Maybe more like "I Follow Rivers" by Lykke Li? https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=6QuYne6ATwY&si=t66oIi_1Tndg74vs
