Here’s hoping for more rumors that go nowhere over the next several days.

Happy New Year!

  • Yankees interested in ghost of Mickey Mantle.

Jack Curry: Yankees were never close on a deal

    Just checking in.

That would never happen. Chapman always thinks he can get someone cheaper better for less money.

  • Am I the only one that thinks trading away pieces for Gore is a huge mistake? The guy isn't good.

he's not elite or anything but his stuff and skill don't really match his results imo

his swing and miss is great and the Nats are a garbage pitching development org.

He tends to start the year well, and then fade in the 2nd half, which lines up well with all our returning starters later in the year. All depends on the Nats ask, I think the return will be significantly less than what the Marlins just got for Cabrera.

The Yankees don’t want to burn their farm to a cinder when they already have seven solid to great rotation pieces who’ll be available at various points during the year—at least three of whom grade out as aces or near-aces when healthy.

Setting aside what they’d LIKE to have if other GMs went insane, this year they NEED a guy whose current profile is a third/fourth starter but who might be developable into a one/two in years to come. That price is a lot lower than an established ace with multiple years of control, and probably even lower than an established ace who’s a one year rental. But it’s still not very low!

Gore fills this bill. So did Imai! But Gore is cheaper in dollars while Imai would’ve been free as far as pieces. It’s obvious that the Yankees feel they’re better set up to trade than to sign FAs when you’re talking about mid-tier-with-promise guys; they have only a handful of helium infused established young talents that GMs might see as a hot centerpiece, but they have a LOT of solid, quality roster fillers and lottery tickets, which are the kinds of guys you trade for MTWP guys.

So if we get anything it’s gonna be Belli plus a guy like Gore (controlled thru 2028). Or maybe Kris Bubic, who’s great but who can’t stay healthy (controlled thru 2027), but the looming strike makes 2027 a black hole. Both would probably cost Warren/Gil, Jones/Dominguez and some rising minor league talent (Hess? Lagrange? Cunningham?) at least.

He’s similar to Cabrera that he’s young with huge upside. I imagine if the Yankees got him it’d be with some tinkering in mind to level him up

Both guys just feel like trading for Javi Vasquez, betting on unseen potential.

God that was so long ago. Crazy to think its the same people in charge making these decisions

    First time or second?

Not good is a bit of stretch. Solid run prevention, and misses bats. Great K numbers. Don’t really see why u would not trade for him if they need a back- middle of the rotation type arm right now to get innings. Better than Warren. Definitely better than Gil. They aren’t going to be able to compete for a better arm with a weak farm too… gore makes a lot of sense

I actually love the idea of Gore learning under Matt Blake

Guy had 185 Ks in 159 IP, “not good” is a very strong opinion

I’d say he has a great chance to develop into a consistent above average starter with Matt Blake coaching him and Fried/Rodon as two LHP mentors. He is already showing flashes of being a very good starter without being in a good pitching org.

He is good, but Peralta is better and more reliable. If everyone is healthy Gore doesn’t give you postseason starts (and yes-he would help you crucially get into the playoffs), but Peralta would.

If everyone is healthy, I want Cole, Fried, and Rodon giving me postseason starts anyways. They are getting paid that way. Kick the rest of the rotation to the pen. God knows we need the bullpen help.

I agree. Peralta would be your 4th starter. Cam is your 5th starter in the regular season and in the playoffs he is an absolute multi-inning weapon out of the pen.

We are on the same page for the most part. I agree that Peralta is more consistent but I still think Gore has the potential to be just as good if not better with Matt Blake coaching him and Fried/Rodon as LHP mentors.

  • Offering Grisham the QO for a Potential 4th round pick was a huge mistake. Cashman is an idiot.
