Lol more excuses

  • Completely wasting Judge's career.

Believe it or not, Judge stops aging during a lockout

His post-lockout career so far has completely eclipsed his pre-lockout career. Would a second lockout reverse it, or would he become even more powerful?

If you lock me out, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

    2035: Somehow, Judge Returned

    😂😂😂💪💪

There’s actually a little truth to that…less wear and tear!

This is probably going to be it. He probably won’t have much help this season, certainly not enough to win a championship, and it’ll be a wasted year. They’ll be locked out in 2027. And the Yankees could decide that 2028 is a good year to rebuild because they can let a lot of their big contracts expire that year.

Wow, I can’t believe we are about to losers for two plus fucking decades.

We’re rapidly approaching the point where we need to shift this to the past tense and that’s going to be a miserable day

If there is a lockout in 2027 I'm moving on to past tense in 2028

Is your name in reference to when VanGorder was at ND?

Judge is the modern day Barry Bonds, greatest hitters of all time where they ARE the team. Hal is very grateful for Judge because Judge single handedly brings fans to the games and Hal doesn’t have to put together a winning collective to make fans show up to the games.

Say this all the time. Im heart broken for such a good dude.

Bonds was a cheater, Don’t lump Judge in with him!

Two points. He had multiple mvps pre cheat. And we have no idea how many pitchers were during that period.

The first point counts against him.

He was already a hall-of-famer before the juice. Three MVPs, a stack of Silver Sluggers, a stack of Gold Gloves, et cetera.

All that, and he decided to cheat anyway.

Nobody knows when Bonds started cheating. We know when his hat size increased, but he could have been using the whole time he was in Pittsburgh.

He was a wiry 180 pound leadoff man throughout college and Pittsburgh days. Our paths crossed numerous times. No he was not juicing in those days. It was the culture in SF. The park was massive. The whole lineup was. Kent, Santiago went from 8th to cleanup protecting Bonds. Baker knew. Kent put on 30 lbs of muscle and nobody said shit. League only cracked down because black and brown players started using.

Modern day Ruth. Bonds cheated modern day.

Ruth won 4 world series with the Yankees this comp makes no sense, and Bonds has been retired for 20 years, that’s not modern anymore.

This could have been a 90's dynasty all over again if they got rid of Cashman, Boone and put some competent people in the driver's seat.

I find this to be incredibly incorrect. Baseball is getting harder and harder to win and have a dynasty like the late 90’s. Who would have been the complimentary pieces? Besides judge and Cole, who else is stacking up to those late 90’s teams?

And more to the point, what would cashman or Boone have done to stop a dynasty? I certainly disagree with May moves by cashman. And non moves as well. But even with a Seager and Harper or some ilk, I don’t think we are looking at a dynasty.

    Beard policy killed that.

No it didn’t. Harper was practically begging to be a Yankee and cashman was never interested

This is just an extra year to direct more money to the cloning program. By 2030 Aaron Judge should be starting at all nine positions

Don’t worry he’ll win a title as the dodgers hitting coach… I’m definitely depressed… sorry guys

This will be Hal and Cashman's epitaph.

    *wasted

    Fixed that for you.

  • The same Michael Kay who will finger-wag at you, for not supporting the team come July when they’re in their typical summer swoon.

“You’re spoiled. Cashman and Boone would have jobs in FIVE MINUTES”

He's turned into a yankee shill. He's paid by the org so he probably can't bash them. I'm not saying it's right but this is classic Kay.

He can bash them, to a degree, and he also can just not support them without saying anything in their favor. I truly think he believes this deep down in his soul.

I parted ways with a job 3 years ago and landed a new job basically on demand.  That doesn't mean I was a good fit for the first job! I wasn't, and both sides were right to part ways. I hate this logic that always gets trotted out.

michael honestly shouldn’t have a job he’s so mediocre

  • Stop being a pussy Hal. This is a disservice to Judge

    To us as well

If they think this is going to happen - they should trade judge.

If you think this is a punt year and 2027 won't happen at all. Fucking do it you cowards. If you are his fucking weak do it.

  • Sell the team

I would love to know what magical ownership is going to come in that all you "sell the team" types are assuming is out there.

Someone whose entire net worth isn’t the Yankees. Hal is too poor to own the Yankees

Doesn’t mean someone else is going to inject them with cash. Alternatively you can get an ownership group that comes in to extract wealth from the Yankees org

We spend less of our revenue than the rockies, giants or rangers.

We don't need to be the Mets or dodgers. Spending as much (percentage wise) as the Phillies or blue jays would be great.

Well the O’Malleys sold the Dodgers to Guggenheim. Seems to be working well for that organization. Considering the Yankees are in a different galaxy, quite certain it’s a better scenario

    You’re not wrong.

The problem with the Yankees’ ownership is that the team is their main source of income. They’ll play around with the money, because the team’s bottom line has a major impact on their net worth.

It seems like it would be great to get away from that, but that can go one of two ways.

Maybe we’d get a new owner like Cohen, who just doesn’t care. The team doesn’t need to be super profitable. He’ll still be a very wealthy man.

Maybe we’d get a new owner like Nutting. He could field a competitive team and still be a very wealthy man, but he’d rather focus on the bottom line because the team is just another opportunity to line his pockets.

  • ie Hal is gonna be on “Team Salary Cap”

He is the only owner that has been vocal about it for years in his own words, in fact, I personally haven’t seen the owners of small market teams bitching about payroll as much as Hal himself does.

    He’s already confirmed that publically

doesn't matter what he wants because a salary cap is DOA...the small market owners will never agree to a floor.

This is what happened in the NHL. What this tells me is a few owners are purposely not spending because they want teams that are over the cap to buy-out or allow a fixed number of players to renegotiate. It was a bloodbath for players.

  • Feel like this was pretty obvious. Hal is still going on about COVID, so he sure as shit won’t spend a dime if he thinks there’s gonna be another year off or something. They’ll keep rolling out the same excuses and hoping we feel pity for the poor billionaire

I have a toddler and a second baby on the way. A conversation that comes up a lot with new parents is just how in the hell you are supposed to afford having a kid when 10% of our household gross income goes to daycare - and that's just one kid, in a LCOL area where daycare is relatively cheap at "only" $300/wk.

Something that gets pointed out to us new parents is that you might have to regress financially for a little bit, and that's okay. It's okay to have lean years when it serves your other goals. It had literally never occurred to me as my wife and I both grew up with a scarcity mindset - having a month where your expenses were over budget meant you literally may not be able to pay rent. We're not in that situation though - we're perfectly fine financially, and we can afford a few years running a little bit in the red if we have to.

Feels like Hal approaches the team with a scarcity mindset too. "If our expenses are above budget for a few years we may not make payroll, the stadium will fall into disrepair, there will be layoffs of concession staff." I bet if he was honest with the fanbase he would tell us straight up that winning a championship is not worth even a slightly elevated risk of having a year, quarter, or month of operating in the red.

    Goal 1 - print money

Goal 2 - protect the brand

    .

    .

    .

    Goal 75 - win a championship

Kids are overrated. .280 hitters are not.

Winning championships is how the brand was built. That's what Hal doesn't get.

The Steinbrenners can't afford to operate in the red. All of their money is tied up in the franchise, so no financial institution is going to offer them a good interest rate on a loan to operate the franchise at a loss. Other teams that are owned by corporations or multi-billionaire hedge fund managers have diversified portfolios that make them safer for loan-providers.

You're assuming the Yankees have zero cash reserves lol.

Cash reserves usually have to be maintained at a certain level for liability & risk management. Depleting cash reserves increases downside risk. Ownership groups that have diversified assets are able to hedge against downside risk and require less cash in reserve.

He's also one of the most vocal owners about the very issue that's gonna cause the lockout.

  • I fucking hate this poverty franchise man

    [deleted]

They have not lived up to their measure of success in quite some time

  • From 1923 - 2000, this team averaged a championship every 3 years.

They have won once in the last 25 years.

Up up until cashfuck and hal took on the team, you were guaranteed to watch them a ws minimum once a decade. These dumbasses were the first to break the spell.

    A sobering statistic.

We always start slow in a new century.

    1903-1926: 1 championship
    1927-2000: 25 championships
    2001-2025: 1 championship
    2026-2100: 25 championships

  • Stop buying tickets

It will never make a difference lol people are still lining up to go to Jets and Giants games. Yankees will never ever have an issue selling tickets no matter how many people protest.

lol People are not “lining up” to go to a Jets game

I mean point still remains. People are going to jets and giants games because it’s still an event to go to a football game. And the Yankees are still in way better standing than those two franchises despite everything. I agree with your message, but it just will never happen.

Yup. This is the only way we’ll be heard.

  • Kay says Steinbrenner is on the “Committee”. I’m assuming he means the Negotiations Committee.

So not only has Steinbrenner ruined a once proud Championship baseball team, the New York Yankees, but now he has the opportunity to ruin all of Major League Baseball.

  • Judge HAS to regret staying here

Wasn't his biggest other suitor the Giants? They aren't a better team.

The Padres reportedly considered offering more money but with absurd of deferrals. I remember a report that MLB was considering vetoing it amd the official offer wasn't made.

Ridiculous considering what the Dodgers pulled with Ohtani.

The problem with the Padres deal wasn't deferrals, it was that it would've ran through his age-44 season.

Obviously just a means of trying to skirt the luxury tax, which is not allowed.

This is exactly what happened. Deferrals would've been allowed, but contrary to popular belief, players do not like deferrals if they have a better option on the table. Ohtani is pretty much the first and only player to give up money like this. Every other player that took deferrals only accepted it because they had a giant signing bonus to offset it (see: Blake Snell).

Add to the fact that he said "I'm only taking deferrals so you can bring me other top players to make sure I win"

I believe Vlad Jrs signing bonus was 350 million...out of a 500 milion contract

325 million but yeah insane but IIRC it has a funny structure. They didn't actually give it to him upfront. It was to skirt state income taxes somewhere.

Is there a retirement age in baseball? Maybe he could have played until age 42 at least, plenty of players don’t play the last few years of their contracts, anyway, Judge made his decision and now he has to live with it.

Expecting Aaron Judge to be productive at age 44 is unserious. The contract was obviously just a means to avoid the luxury tax

That's not what it was. They weren't offering deferrals. The unverified rumor was was that they wanted to offer a 20-year deal to spread out the AAV. But that's not even the reported offer. The widely reported offer was something like $415M over at least 12 years which is a lot lower AAV than what he got from the Yankees. It's a myth that he took less to play here. He took the highest AAV that was on the table. What he did do is he got the Yankees to match the Giants offer.

Yea, no one else is interested in Judge

It’s honestly incredibly obvious that Judge loves being a Yankee more than most of the fans on this sub love being Yankee fans

I don't care what his national politics are but it's clear he's not like a weird racist who is scared of cities like a lot of ballplayers. He 100% absolutely loves having infinite money in NYC and doubt he'd be happy in many other places.

The pay and emotional turmoil suck.

I mean he most likely would have won a WS if he showed up against the Dodgers.

Oh poor judge I feel so sry for him

Arson’s probably living it up in San Fran right now 😢

  • I'm reporting that I believe I may be reluctant to purchase Yankees tickets, Yankees merch, or a subscription to the Gotham app due to uncertainty about ownership's commitment to fielding a Championship contender.

  • Excuses. Hal is just being a cheap billionaire.

  • This organization is a joke. There is no reason to give this team a single second of your time if this is how they are going to operate.

The Yankees are a hat company that sometimes plays baseball.

  • Translation: Hal fucking sucks.

  • Hal Steinbrenner being a broke bitch should be a bigger story than it is.

  • Despite his job with the organization, Kay has NEVER once shown himself to possess any special knowledge or acumen about the business side of the Yankees. He's just getting his name out there during the winter so he can drive engagement.

  • Hal is flat-out telling you that he has bought into Cashman’s bullshit that the playoffs are a crapshoot and so he isn’t willing or doesn’t care enough to go all in to win a championship. This organization is delusional and arrogant, they learn absolutely nothing from 16 years of failure. Sell the fucking team.

  • I am not apologizing for this team wasting judged talent but tbh these next few FA classes don’t have much. Might need to start making trades

They fucked up when they had their chances and that’s that.

  • Yeah and our owner is pushing for a salary cap lol. He acts like it's outside of his control when he's one of the most powerful people pushing for a cap.

  • Cheap Hal is getting the salary cap he wants.

  • What was the excuse for trimming payroll heading into 2018 from $224M to $192M with Judge making peanuts & coming off a money making bonanza with the teams surprising run to the ALCS…..was that because a looming lockout also? Hal is a bigger ponzi schemer than the Wilpon’s.

  • Why are they worried about some shit the Blue Jays, the Orioles, the Red Sox and the Dodgers ain’t worried about?

  • Kay doesn't know shit. This is tabloid level content. If Jack Curry, Brian Hoch, or Jeff Passan didn't say something, then it's made up bullshit.

  • Really hoping there’s no MLB lockout. Would be a shame to lose games that could impact Stanton’s shot at 500 HRs and waste another prime Judge year on his path to maybe 600-650 HRs

  • Hal is a weeny numbers nerd on the autist spectrum. He ain't gonna change.

  • Then Hal and the Yankees better be content with mediocrity cause it’s not getting better without several more changes

Cheap Hal is willing to tolerate sub championship outcomes on the field in exchange for stellar outcomes on the balance sheet, as a self proclaimed “finance wonk”

It's gonna get worse when Judge and Cole start to decline. He's still gonna have to pay them.

  • Stop going to the ballpark. As long as they're making money they're gonna do the same bullshit.

  • Poor Judge, man.

  • Won't someone think of the billionaire. He has to have one less yacht

  • In my opinion, this team hasn’t wanted to actually win since 2009.

I will only keep watching when the tickets/streaming services are repriced accordingly for an infeiror project or ownership takes winning seriously again.

  • This might be a hot take but judge is gonna need to call the shots more as to who he plays with, what plays to make, etc. He needs to be more like LeBron

  • WOW, what insider knowledge here Michael...

  • This is a load of shit. Kay just needs something to spit and get angry fans calling in

  • We are acting like we are in some third tier market. I’m so tired of these decisions

  • Then unload some prospects. They need to make at least 2 impactful trades. But doing nothing is not an option

  • Yeah some of us have been saying that, they’re hoping to get a cap they like and never have to worry about the fans rightfully calling them out on not having a higher payroll.

  • I DONT WANT TO HEAR THIS SHIT WTF BROOOOOOO

  • Duh? Was this not obvious?

  • Honestly just trade away Judge this is disrespectful to such a great player he deserves a championship this organization has become such a joke

Baseball isnt like other sports, a star is great, but they're just one small piece. Judge will only bat 3-4 times a game, other than that hes just a good fielder. Really need to build a whole team. An amazing starting pitcher will only be out there for like 25-30 games

Unlike Hockey or Basketball where your superstar can be 20% of the players and spend 50-75% of the minutes playing

That’s not how hockey works. At all. It’s actually most similar to baseball in terms of needing a team

sure, you still need other players, but a superstar in hockey moves the needle a lot more than a superstar in baseball.

  • there will always be the next concern regarding big contract signings, just another cheap excuse

  • I don’t feel bad for Judge, if he wants to win he should speak up about the lack of moves and threaten to demand a trade otherwise.

he's already got his bag...he might be a little peeved, but that's about it.

  • Kays just throwing shit out there. I can almost guarantee the league isn’t dying on the salary cap hill.

  • I’m taking a year off from Yankees baseball

    Hope we win it all

    Hold your breath lmao

  • Kay is good at being a rage baiter. That’s what radio hosts do. This is just his opinion when there is nothing else to talk about

  • So tired of all the excuses, judge is going to end up like mattingly a career Yankees with no rings because Hal is to cheap to go all in. There is no 100 percent guarantee that Cole and rodon are going to be elite when they come back

  • So nothing we haven't seen on Reddit for the past 2 months? Thanks Kay for the new info 😮.

  • Excuses, excuses, excuses

  • He doesn’t want to add more expenses because something else is in the works

  • Not surprised but still disappointed

  • This is the price we must pay, unfortunately, for being in a small market.

  • Hal can't hear us in while he's in his vault counting beans

  • For the Yankees a dollar costs a dollar and ninety-five cents. If they really are hesitant to spend that part seems more relevant tban anything else.

  • oh REALLY

it’s like everyone just says the quiet part out loud now. Yep we’re heading over there with private oil companies.

  • There is always an excuse. For a while it was blaming Stanton and his contract but now that he’s a fan favorite since he can actually hit in the post season they need to find some other reason.

  • And if you look at Rogers Communications, they're printing money to bolster the Blue Jays roster.

I can easily see the league and PA coming to an agreement where contracts signed during older CBA's will not count towards the "new salary floor-cap system" or a portion of their salary will be added to the books with the other portion left off,

Take that gamble Cashman, take it man

  • I think this team gotta apologize to judge for failing to give him what he needs in order to get a ring

they gave him a $320M roster.

A waste of $320M for sure. Idek if judge wanted some of these players

  • Sell the team or part of it then. You obviously don't have the outside income to compete with these other owners anymore.

  • The thing that really bothers me this season is the acknowledgment that Toronto beat thier ass last year. And instead of improving our team to beat Toronto the are running it back. Meanwhile Toronto HAS improved their team MORE and we don’t even have Bellinger back which means the team is worse now than it was last year. This entire offseason is reflects the shitty philosophy of ownership. I watched that interview with The Post and Kay and the takeaway is that Hal is cheap and they are content with mediocrity

  • Meanwhile the dodgers are spending (wisely) and reaping the benefits, winning back2back titles.

  • I mean, yeah. This feels obvious as it’s something that has been reported about all teams across the league with regard to this very glacial offseason.

  • Hal is 56, is it reasonable to assume another 25 years of him? Club owners don't really retire

  • Man these guys running the yankees are so smart!

  • I really believe we should chant sell the team to that jerkoff owner Hal . That man’s a spoiled brat Mr won all his life now he’s just about profit not team.

  • Ok let's say the Yankees do not want to add major salary. But way keep the prospects as well to try to improve?

Not a bad question but a better one is then why pay Grisham? If they believe in the lockout, keep your prospects and send them to another league to continue to work.

  • He's correct in his assessment because the greedy billionaire owners are going to cry poverty, demand a salary cap, and lock out the players.

  • Gee, ya think?

  • The only way to put pressure on them is if Judge opens his mouth and starts complaining behind closed doors. He has more power than he thinks. But he’s not the type to ruffle feathers. He’s not getting any younger.

  • If you think this that hard - trade judge.

    I am serious.

  • Not shocking but definitely disappointing.

A lockout will be disappointing too.

Pro athletes make absurd money but at least they've got a skill. I'll always side with them over the billionaires who own the teams.

  • That’s a lotta words to say collusion… not a good year to be a Boras client

  • Why can’t yanks defer salaries like the dodgers?

  • Malpractice the way we’re handling Judge’s prime

  • This is really sad

  • Wow, that’s some insight!

  • They're pathetic

  • Becoming the Steelers of MLB... always above .500, but...

  • A lockout should make you want to go all in on this season as you don't know when or what the other side of it is going to look at.  Offer some big 1 year deals or let them opt out after this year to get the bats and arms you need to win this year.  Go All In to win now for Judge screw the other years!  Bring the talent in as you don't have the offense to just run it back.  Sign Tucker and let him opt out, trade for Peralta and sign Ozuna!

    • Why play it all?
    • What does any of this mean?
    • What's the point?

Ladies and gentlemen, your New York Nihilists.

  • Good the players deserve less and Hal deserves more

  • I hate the way this franchise operates

  • Hal Steinbrenner.

  • Wake up, babe, the Yankees just came up with some new bullshit to justify being cheap.

  • I’m not buying a single ticket to a game this year. I absolutely refuse to do it. I’m going to stream every damn game. Don’t give Hal your money. He doesn’t give a flying fuck about this team, his players who have worked their entire lives to get to the MLB and compete or the fans that fund the entire operation with our hard earned money. Hal Steinbrenner is a spoiled princeling who treats his massive found fortune as if he worked for every dollar he has. Fuck him. Sell the team.

  • Oh for fuck's sake, if we're the richest team then fucking act like it. They have the money, fucking spend it. This pussyfooting and penny pinching bullshit is the reason it's been 17 years since our last ring. Get your head out of your fat wallets, go out there, and buy us a winning team.

  • For the Jays and Red Sox it's been business as usual. Red Sox traded for Contreras, Gray, and have offered Bregman a 6-year deal. Jays have signed Cease, Rogers, Okamoto, and are aggressively going after Tucker.

Even the Orioles have done more than the Yankees, trading for Taylor Ward, signing Pete Alonso and Ryan Helsley.

  • Why is J.T. Realmuto not even getting a look right now? Right hand bat, Catcher/First baseman/DH..

    What is he asking for?

  • Jokes on you when Robo-judge is DH in 2036

  • Cashman is a disgrace. In 20 years, he won't blame himself for mismanaging the roster through the years, instead he will blame Judge for not being clutch enough during the post-season. If it were up to him, Judge wouldn't have been back.

  • poor judge should’ve signed else were

  • For the first time in a long time I’m not even excited for the upcoming season.

  • Man if I was judge i would be hitting up my agent saying I want to be traded off this poverty ass franchise

  • Meanwhile they add no value to the roster. When the Yankees continue to sell out with an even more diminished lineup than last year, Hal will still make money!

  • Judge needs to request a trade even if he doesn’t mean it. Light a fire under them already

  • I mean so are most every other team. There is a reason all the big free agents are still unsigned every team is being super stingy because they expect a lockout

  • If Judge or any of our good starters go down for any prolonged period of time, we are so fucked. DeJong or Rosario will be legit starting games everyday.

  • Cowards. All of you. YOURE THE NEW YORK YANKEES holy shit
