A conversation that comes up a lot with new parents is just how in the hell you are supposed to afford having a kid when 10% of our household gross income goes to daycare - and that's just one kid, in a LCOL area where daycare is relatively cheap at "only" $300/wk.
Something that gets pointed out to us new parents is that you might have to regress financially for a little bit, and that's okay. It's okay to have lean years when it serves your other goals. It had literally never occurred to me as my wife and I both grew up with a scarcity mindset - having a month where your expenses were over budget meant you literally may not be able to pay rent. We're not in that situation though - we're perfectly fine financially, and we can afford a few years running a little bit in the red if we have to.
