We’ll I’m giving you a reason his numbers. Pretending that Judge hasn’t been a major factor in the playoffs failures is nonsense. Cashman is awful at his job, but Judge has consistently failed when it’s mattered most

    parent root
    1 points reedshipper

He's definitely struggled in the playoffs I won't deny that. But last year he did break out of that in a big way. Unfortunately the rest of the team around him failed this time around.

    parent root

Last I checked, the offseason wasn’t over

    parent root
    6 points Not1v9again

And the most they're going to do is run it back. That's the best case scenario

    parent root
    -16 points John_6_47

    It’s not at all?

We are getting Cole back, and we’re still probably gonna get Belli, a SP, a RH bench bat, and a reliever or two.

I could be wrong, but at the very least, I’m gonna hold out some hope

    parent root
    8 points TAKATTAKER

We can be hopeful, but every piece you just listed (except the bench bat) needs to be an impact piece.

If the projections haven't changed, I think Rodon is coming back early May, and Cole is coming back early June. That's roughly 20 missing starts from a top of the rotation arm. Add to that, we need to figure out ~125 innings for the bullpen now that Weave and Williams are both gone.

There's a LOT of innings that need to be soaked up that the Yankees have yet to address, and the bigger issue is that they're high quality innings that need to be addressed. There's plenty of off-season left, but I'm really curious how they're going to address these missing innings.

    parent root
    12 points Not1v9again

Cole, 35 yo, coming back from TJ and not expected back before June 1st.
For any SP to be a needle mover it's gonna have to be Peralta because Gore is another lefty with a career 4 ERA.
Any RH bench bat is gonna be worse than Goldy vs LHP last year.
And for relievers you're gonna be looking at the deadline or around then before Cashman makes moves.

    parent root
    7 points John_6_47

Cole, a Cy Young winner like two years ago.

If anyone can come back better from TJ at 35, he can.

Gotta be positive here. We can be negative about a whole host of issues, but I think there’s a solid chance Cole contributes for us this season.

    parent root
    0 points kingslayer9224

He might be better but it’s gonna take half a season for him to get the feel again he won’t be elite this year just inconsistent

    parent root
    -3 points [deleted]

Dylan Cease finished 4th in Cy Young voting more recently than Cole won Cy Young.

Cole isn't going to be that guy anymore. He probably won't even be back to 100% till 2027.

    1 points _Eiden_

Cole won UNANIMOUSLY 2 years ago. Brain dead take.

    parent root
  • 50 points DA_87

On the one hand, I don’t view Cabrera as a high end pitcher (though he has upside) so I’m not too burnt up about missing him specifically. On the other hand, we still have done jack shit this offseason and now a guy we were pursuing is gone. Not great.

    parent
    7 points yugoslav_posting

Yeah I dunno, it will look bad if Gil and Schlittler aren't good this year but you almost have to give them a chance rather than trading for a different unproven guy who had a good year right after turning in a 4.95 ERA in Florida.

    parent root
    2 points Correct-Caregiver750

He's a feast or famine pitcher. He has amazing stuff. But he could also have 7 walks in a game and it wouldn't surprise you.

Hey, if that’s true, fine. Medicals can be scary

    parent root
    8 points True-Bet-8429

Could also just simply be they don’t have the prospect capital to compete with other teams in trades. Marlins prob don’t value much of their farm. Assuming they wanted a solid bat in return. I don’t think Dillion Lewis and Ben Hess was ever going to come close to getting it done

    parent root
    6 points thediesel26

    Me neither tbh.

    parent root
    5 points Deejus56

Yup considering who the Cubs gave up, I can't imagine it was ever really that close.

    parent root
    3 points Zepbounce-96

You mean the same way they passed on Jack Flaherty's medicals at the July '24 trade deadline? It's interesting that Flaherty was healthy enough to help the Dodgers win a WS that year.

Can we please just acknowledge that Cashman and his people have no clue what they're doing most of the time? Judge + a team of league average cheap-os is good enough for a shot at the playoffs and that's enough to keep Cashman employed. They'll find players from the trash bin, shine them up a little and that's the team.

    parent root

    parent root
    19 points EricMasterdebater

I dunno, but I have the feeling that the Yanks are moving the goal post continuously. First, it was Imai. Then, it was Cabrera. Now, it is Peralta and Gore. Rumour has it that they passed on Imai, because they wanted to use the money on Bellinger, Tucker or Bichette… But they are far removed from Bellinger. Probably out on Tucker and Bichette. Hopefully, it will work out, but it seems that they will get squeezed for every dime with Bellinger again. The Yankees tend to have these kind of offseasons lately. Stay put until it becomes uncomfortable and then overpay for a player to satisfy the fans. But this strategy is destroying the Yankees, because you are left with regressing players on big contracts. Cashman keeps stacking up deadweight.

    parent root
    4 points PerformancePublic216

Your best point is “rumor has it” because everything is rumor and conjecture at this point.

    parent root
    1 points EricMasterdebater

You wish the rumour is true. If it is false, then it means that Cashman is sitting on his hands and has no plan or strategy.

    parent root
    7 points CasanovaWong

What goal post was there to move about Imai? Everything we heard about them was that they weren’t interested in him at all.

    parent root
    2 points mattieyanks82

i think they’ll make a competitive offer on Belli, Judge and him became really close the same way he was with Rizzo, i think they’ll sign him and say we’re not signing anyone else, if they were smart they’d sign Bichette who’s a superstar and is only 27

    parent root
    8 points John_6_47

Peralta is better for this season, too.

Wow that's a bad look. All that hype for nothing, again.

    parent root
    2 points NukeVoit59

I doubt they get either. Obviously they need to move their asses and make some moves, but I doubt they spend a ton of resources to get more starting pitching. They mostly need depth. Cole and Rodon will both be back early in the season, with Fried, Schlittler, Warren, and Gil all presumably ready. Elmer Rodriguez could also make the team with a strong spring too. I don’t think it makes a ton of sense to sell the farm for more. You obviously can’t count on all of those guys staying healthy, but you just need enough of them to be ready in October.

    parent root
    1 points OpeningRhubarb2618

Just sign Bichette, move Jazz to 3B. Put Warren of Gill in the bullpen when Rodon and then Cole come back. Yarborough nand Blackburn also in the pen or spot starter in case of injury and there is the possibility that Elmer Rodriguez makes the team. If that rules out signing Bellinger then so be it. We hav Judge, Grisham, Dominguez and Jones which I believe can make a very good outfield. Time to get moving.

    parent root
    1 points NukeVoit59

Jazz sucks at 3rd and Bo sucks everywhere. It’ll be like when DJ was at 2nd last year but somehow worse. McMahon is a solid hitter with great defense who also makes Jazz better by letting him play his natural position. I’d much rather Bellinger (and especially Tucker, no matter how unlikely) than Bichette. I really think he’s the free agent who’s gonna age the worst. He was already the worst defensive infielder in baseball, and I don’t think moving to 2nd is gonna save him for long.

    parent root
    1 points AdImpressive9650

230 is solid? Mendoza line is sliding again.

    parent root
    1 points NukeVoit59

He doesn’t hit for average, but he walks a decent amount and has good power. There’s more than one way to be a hitter.

    parent root
    1 points AdImpressive9650

But yesterday you guys ripped Jazz for hitting 260 with 30 and 30. Selectively lowering the bar for the white guy much?

    parent root
    1 points NukeVoit59

I have never ripped Jazz as a player. He’s the 2nd best position player on the team, and that’s not gonna change unless they sign Tucker or if Rice matches his peripherals.

Freddy Peralta and Mackenzie Gore are probably better options in several ways, but there’s no go guarantee they won’t be outbid there either.

I dunno. The Trent Grisham QO seems like one of the all-time gaffes at the moment if you still refuse to trade Spencer Jones or Jasson Dominguez for one of these guys.

    parent
    2 points Malachasm

Why is everyone so sold on Mackenzie Gore as a solid option? Because he had a 13 SO game at the beginning of 2025? Ffs the guy slowed down a ton for the rest of the year and had a 4 ERA to finish the season.

    parent root
    2 points sds3387

Because he’s still young, at 26, and his upside is well…exactly that. He’s got some years of control under him and he’s not shown the durability issues that Cabrera has.

Jets and Yankees fan here. I just endured a lot of shit with the Jets. My only ray of hope was looking forward to the start of baseball and rooting for the Yankees. An organization that usually gets things right. I hope they dont screw things up too. In football you only get pissed off once a week, and are miserable the other 6 days. Baseball we can be pissed off 3-5 days a week. I can’t just can’t endure another catastrophe like football season.

The cubs gave up a top prospect plus others for a guy with a sub-.500 record and an ERA over 4.00 for his career. Does he have potential talent? Absolutely. But he hasn't translated that talent into MLB success yet.

And while yes he was on a terrible team, it is possible for talent to thrive even on a bad team. See Skenes in Pittsburgh as an example
