Hey everyone ! I’m a Cardinals fan and I come in peace!
I was going through my ‘year in review’ on my phone’s photos and wanted to share my experience at Yankee Stadium in late July.
I flew up with my daughter and my mother (Bronx Native) to NY to visit family and we had some time to catch the July 28th Yankees/Rays game.
Right before the game we were waiting outside the ballpark and daughter was panicking trying to find a bathroom. We couldn’t go in the park at the time because we were waiting for some additional family and I had all the tickets on my phone.
In the “panic” , we got separated from my mother in the crowd. My mother is a disabled vet and doesn’t move as quickly as she used to and tripped on one of the grates on the sidewalk and her leg/foot/knee got busted up pretty badly.
I was able to flag some officers (who were on high alert apparently , because the shooting in Manhattan happened right around that time) and they were able to get her to one of the benches and got stadium personnel to clean her up.
The stadium security then took us into the ballpark and got my mother treated in the facility , made sure she was ok , and upgraded our seats to ones that had handicap/wheelchair access.
My mother was not injured in the ballpark , and they had no legal obligation to help her as far as I’m aware. The Bronx Police and Yankee medical staff made sure that she was taken care of and 100% comfortable and that she was able to watch the game and eat ice cream with her granddaughter.
I will forever be a fan of the Yankees organization , because of what they did for my mother. Thank you and Happy New Year!
This is an awesome memory! I like to imagine this is a baseball culture thing and not a Yankee stadium thing. Thanks for sharing OP.
And this is why I love the Yankees. Most of all, this is why I love baseball
Glad to hear everything turned out well for you.
I've always joked with my buddies that if I wasn't a die hard Yanks fan, Id be a Cards one. Organization that does things right and a fantastic fanbase
Thanks for sharing a positive story!
Thank you for sharing your families experience. Hope all is well with your mother. I love positive stories of life and the positiveness of your comments. The NYC police, the Yankee staff and medical attention, the fact the Yankee organization upgraded your seats and the you taking the time to post here. You are a good person, my best wishes to you and your family.
Cardinals fans are true fans and are always welcome at Yankee Stadium!
Very happy to hear this and glad your mother is ok. It goes to show how much good will can be generated from simple kind acts.
Great story and so nice to hear something positive for a change - good luck to your Cardinals this season
That's awesome to hear. People are lightning fast to complain but rarely take the time to recognize the positive. Thank you
I'm a Yankees fan who went to Busch Stadium back in 2009 and I loved my time there too!
It’s a fun time - especially if you go on the same week of a Hockey game. The main strip blows up and is a ton of fun.
New Yorkers can be “in a hurry” assholes but when people need help we are often as kind as can be
