Neighbor shot herself in the mouth. She didn't go straight up. Went to the side. When FD was bringing her out, she was screaming, "HELP ME HELP ME!" No nose left. She lived and looks about as bad as you would think.
It's not uncommon for people who committed suicide via gunshot to the head to be found still alive (though not for long). So technically the only way to be certain it's instant is to have the head completely destroyed.
290 Fahrenheit? I'd open the door and walk out. That temperature gives you lots of time to cry for help or find a way out. It would be agonizing and you'd probably not live long but you'd have a chance.
Used to volunteer in a level one trauma unit. Heard that helmets for motorcycle riders often just make the cleanup a bit easier. (Not the case here.) Dark humor. During the summer, almost every day someone in a motorbike accident came in.
In Germany, we've got the term “Nierenwetter” for the summertime as dialysis patients can expect a higher frequency in kidney donations due to more motorcyclists dying during their joyrides. Of course it's a little morbid, but...
The cyclist hit the side of the bus, went under its back wheels (looks to be slightly below the ribs) and promptly gets turned into a tube of human toothpaste that someone stomped on.
I think it's more that the bus hit the cyclist poor thing had nowhere to go. I'd love some follow up to say that the driver was persecuted
Edit. Prosecuted not persecuted... Man that really changes the tone
Persecution is a little harsh for this, especially if there lacked evidence of malicious intent or reckless negligence in the inciting circumstances for which the bus driver should be prosecuted. If the driver is otherwise a good person, and a conscientious employee of the transportation company, they'll carry with them for the rest of their days a heavy burden of guilt from this cyclist's death, with no need to have third parties continually harangue them over such a sad situation deemed an unfortunate happenstance.
Ms. Beckie, I think I disagree----I do believe it was negligence on the part of the driver, it may not have been reckless negligence but it was negligence no less. You are supposed to aware of your surroundings including a cyclist who was in front in your view.
We don't punish this kind of thing enough, and we over-punish other things.
I know that some places don't allow for riding on the sidewalk, but in Hawaii where I live that's not a thing; nobody ever rides on the road except for people who move here from the mainland.
Im not saying this about the poor victim at all, but a lot of cyclists are pretty obnoxious and entitled when it comes to riding on the street, many going as far as putting their safety aside to "prove a point" to drivers by hanging onto their rights to the road when they feel a driver is encroaching on their space, instead of just playing it safe... same thing with pedestrians acting invincible really.
Obv some are safer & less threatening than others, but when I got to a certain age I began to view every road as a strip of potentially violent and life-ending space; it's a bit nuts to me that there's people who don't similarly view it that way & behave so lax nearby/on them.
Again, Im not talking about the cyclist here, so calm down before dog piling.
I live in one of those places where they are not allowed on sidewalks. It just seems crazy to me because a collision between a bicycle & pedestrian is so much less severe than... that. And there are nearly always far fewer people on the sidewalk than cars on the road.
driving in the road is proper in most places, sidewalk is forbidden for bikes and often more dangerous or absent.
sidewalk is for walking, if you have a very functional sidewalk and you try to put both bikes and pedestrians on it it goes pretty bad unless it's either very large or with few people.
Mixed pedestrian/bike lanes are a thing, they are however sized properly.
You're not wrong assuming the right infrastructure is there. Im just saying that growing up in Hawaii it's safer for both the cyclist & the driver for them to stay on the sidewalk- that's if they've aren't zipping around and weaving between pedestrians, or doing wheelies or some shit.
Waikiki/ Honolulu is the only metropolis with busy sidewalks that we have in Hawaii, so there actually are designated bike lanes throughout most of that area... but that's not where I grew up.
When it comes down to it, it falls on both the cyclist and the driver to use good judgement & exercise caution. Obv all of the egos can be left on the pavement upon entering the road space; that usually g does nobody any good where safety is concerned.
Idk if you've ever been in a sideways/t-bone car accident before but that moment before when you see the other car unimaginably close to you is the only thing I can picture. Pain-wise, I have no idea - just damn.
It looks compound, I think I see two major actions. Panic from the cyclist realizing too late he's swept into the bus's current he reacts tries to hop the curb. The tire reflects as it does and right as that happens the bus finally does the deed the handle bar is snagged inside of that action. You know the rest.

Cyclist run over by a bus...
As the 'Jornal de Piracicaba' reported, a man was run over and killed while riding a bicycle along Avenida Comendader Luciano Guidotti this Monday morning(22 Nov), in Piracicaba. The fatal victim is Jose da Costa Goncalves, 57, a resident of the Ary Coelho.
According to information, the accident occurred at 8:25 am in Jardim Caxambu. The 44 year old bus driver said that he was driving along the avenue when he heard the noise of something hitting the right side of the bus. "When I looked in the rear view mirror I soon saw a bicycle and an individual on the ground." the driver informed in a police report. He says that he realized Jose was lifeless when he got off the bus to help.
The accident was captured by the security camera of a nearby establishment. The Military Police was at the scene and isolated the area until the arrival of experts from the IC(Institute of Criminalistics). Subsequently, the body was sent to the IML(Institute of Forensic Medicine).
The case was registered with the UPS(Judiciary Police Unit)as manslaughter. The driver was released after giving his testimony.
Man, that is fucking awful. I’m glad the cyclist went quickly, but what an absolutely brutal sight. That lady’s life is changed forever and so is that dog’s honestly.
I'll always say this. Bike lanes should not be on the road and they should not be treated as vehicles. Bike lanes should've been added to sidewalks, not roads, and bicyclist should not be allowed to be treated as an automobile, it gives a false sense of security, entitlement, and invincibility... The majority don't follow those rules anyway.
Rather, this seems to be an argument to HAVE a bike lane, as that street clearly does not have one.
Tbh though i wouldnt ride a bike anywhere other than a trail bc American roadways are not designed for bicyclists and bike lanes are not as ubiquitous as they should be.
I used to love riding my bike as a kid with friends and we always rode on sidewalks. When I see bikes on the road in bike lane now I’m like geez no way in hell I’d do this. Too many accidents of bikers getting killed here. Any mistake by biker like falling off after hitting something or avoiding a sudden obstacle might get you hit if you’re not aware of traffic around you.
Cycling on the road is just putting your life into the hands of strangers. It's like not looking when the walk now light flashes green. You really want to trust some rando fucking idiot with your life?
Or shrink the size of roadways with protected bike lanes and dedicated bus lanes. Smaller lanes will force drivers to slow down, and force more drivers to switch to alternative modes of transportation. I wonder if this would reduce pollution, increase overall fitness, and reduce fatal/serious car accidents.
My country recently added bicycle lanes to the middle (and behind for narrow ones) of the sidewalk (they expanded the sidewalk and put the lane behind poles). Very rare good decision tbh
That was incredibly tragic and brutal, but I feel like this could’ve been avoided if he rode on the sidewalk instead of riding next to moving vehicles in the street, or maybe there should’ve been a bike lane in the first place
That was definitely not the road for a bike ride, the flow of traffic almost seemed sped up. Cemeteries remain full of people who had the right of way.
I dont understand western world that allows cyclist to be on the road..... but if i bring this up to the community i get crucified.
I grew up in South East asia and we rode our bikes on sidewalks WITH DUE CARE and prioritizing walking pedestrian safety.
Im just amazed that western mindset cannot even fathom that this is way much safer than having cyclist on the roads.
The “western mindset” is about killing/disregarding everyone around you if they are even a mild inconvenience. Been that way for a very long time (see history).
its a shame how our society, whether the infrastructure for cycling or mentality of drivers where they bully cyclists into not occupying a full lane, results in things like this. fuck everything about this.
Forcing them onto streets like this where the dude is riding in an uneven gutter ready to get vacuum sucked into the draft of a bus and toothpasted is a recipe for... This video.
100%. I live in NYC and avoid unprotected cycling as much I can. Plus, drivers are complete jerks to cyclists here. I've been verbally abused. I lived in London before and cycled around on the roads and never once was abused, despite having cycled there far more than in NYC
I'd love to live in a cyclist-friendly city in the US but it's either too cold (looking at MN) or too expensive. Sucks to think I might have to use a car for my own safety. Relevant xkcd: https://m.xkcd.com/3167/
Wow I visited my friend that lives in NYC and I was impressed by the bicycle lanes there. Not enough obviously but it’s way worse where I’m from. Unless I’m on one of the very few bicycle paths in LA I’m having major anxiety the entire time. Cars play chicken and move just far enough out of the way to avoid clipping you. I don’t understand why people are so aggressive
Yeah, thats why it sucks to think ill need a car to live anywhere else since theres nearly no infrastructure for it. I cant even imagine cycling on proper roads in the Midwest with like 30+ speeds. I love cycling as a means of transit but I'm not interested in the stress from that
This is why even though it’s illegal in LA I ride on the sidewalk when I can. I always give pedestrians the right of way and give proper space. This terrifies me. Too many crazy drivers not paying attention. The bus driver literally murdered him. Didn’t even try to pass him by or anything. I feel so awful for all those involved in this
This is why you respect that a person on a bike needs the full lane, even if it’s inconvenient for you. Accidents happen and this is the result. It looks like the force of the bus passing him caused him to lose his balance. They could’ve just slowed down and passed in the other lane.
Absolutely not. Bikes need their own lane off the road. Maybe next to the sidewalk or something. Bikes need to be nowhere near the road in general. Accidents like this will still happen if it’s in the road too. If someone hits a pedestrian on a bike people get hurt. This is what you get when you mix bikes with cars and trucks and busses. They aren’t in the same class and don’t belong together period unless you want more accidents like this.
I think you got it twisted. The roadway was likely exactly where he was supposed to be riding. Unfortunately it looks like the bus driver fkked up big time & it cost the cyclist his life.

Where I live, and I am sure many other places, bikes are legally considered vehicles on the road and thus have the same rights as any car. Many cities also have rules against riding on the sidewalk. So yes, if you’re driving a BUS and can see clearly there is not room for you to safely pass someone on a bike, you should get in the other lane to pass and just get back over when you’re past him, which would take an additional 2 seconds of your time and potentially save a life.

I never understand why some places have cycling lanes on the main road. It's like the designers are trying to get the cyclists killed. One pothole or temporary loss of balance and suddenly you're the main star of humans vs cars. Just cycle on the sidewalk man.
They should let them ride in the sidewalk. A collision between a bicycle & pedestrian at worst leads to scrapes & maybe a broken bone. Not that nastiness.

Brutal but quick. He felt the initial fall and then lights out.
Wouldn't be a bad way to go, in my opinion.
Yeah. I would prefer this instead of a botched suicide. What i dont like is i would be remembered as that guy who died like this
I have a feeling you won't care after the fact.
Neighbor shot herself in the mouth. She didn't go straight up. Went to the side. When FD was bringing her out, she was screaming, "HELP ME HELP ME!" No nose left. She lived and looks about as bad as you would think.
Hey, at least you’d be remembered.
It’d be a weird afterlife person if that were a beetlejuice world
I would prefer not to die thank you.
I got bad news for ya…..
Who's gonna tell them?
Probably difficult for your mom to make a positive ID though.
Do you think he had the same opinion?
No time to form any existential exit preferences I'm guessing. So I'll estimate an answer for him.
"No."
I feel like bullet to the brain is better, instant severance.
That looked pretty instant.
It's not uncommon for people who committed suicide via gunshot to the head to be found still alive (though not for long). So technically the only way to be certain it's instant is to have the head completely destroyed.
What would you do if you were in a 290f incinerator
"100 is bigger than 99"
"Aha, but what if your choices are 5 vs 99? I bet then you would say 99 is bigger! Gotcha!"
290 Fahrenheit? I'd open the door and walk out. That temperature gives you lots of time to cry for help or find a way out. It would be agonizing and you'd probably not live long but you'd have a chance.
What if they locked u in there, basically I personally think forms of incineration are the scariest of all
I was incorrect! 290 degrees Fahrenheit is pretty much instantly fatal.
Now, if it has to warm up like an oven, that's a bit different.
No helmet can save you if you are squeezed from bottom lung up to the head
Used to volunteer in a level one trauma unit. Heard that helmets for motorcycle riders often just make the cleanup a bit easier. (Not the case here.) Dark humor. During the summer, almost every day someone in a motorbike accident came in.
In Germany, we've got the term “Nierenwetter” for the summertime as dialysis patients can expect a higher frequency in kidney donations due to more motorcyclists dying during their joyrides. Of course it's a little morbid, but...
Husband is a paramedic turned ER nurse. He calls helmets brain buckets for easier clean up. And motorcycles are donor cycles.
Yep, always heard it was the difference from an open or closed casket.
In this case, it's either a glass jar or a plastic bag if you want an open casket.
what the fuck
That dog is going to be traumatized for life.
Nah give it some head pats and a treat and it will forget all about it. That poor woman, though…
👀 it's a dog. I'm more worried about the actual human being...
The guy under the bus? He'll feel the bruises tomorrow for sure
Assuming he means the woman, or the mororbike guy
[deleted]
Dogs are not inherently averse to violent events like this. The human will be the one who's fundamentally unprepared.
What the actual fuck..
That dog probably sneaked in a few lick of man salsa before anyone noticed
Oh my god you're here too
I'm everywhere on this site.
Not everywhere, just everywhere interesting.
My exact reaction
I can't even make out what's happening. That poor lady getting traumatized
The cyclist hit the side of the bus, went under its back wheels (looks to be slightly below the ribs) and promptly gets turned into a tube of human toothpaste that someone stomped on.
Its more like the bus hit the cyclist!
I think it's more that the bus hit the cyclist poor thing had nowhere to go. I'd love some follow up to say that the driver was persecuted Edit. Prosecuted not persecuted... Man that really changes the tone
This video is old, I definitely remember an article about legal issues for the bus driver claiming not to have seen the cyclist

Ummmm. Yeah I've edited the comment above. Autocorrect on the phone really changed the tone of the comment.
Ms. Beckie, I think I disagree----I do believe it was negligence on the part of the driver, it may not have been reckless negligence but it was negligence no less. You are supposed to aware of your surroundings including a cyclist who was in front in your view.

The consequences were dire: death.
That’s brutal
The good thing is, it was quick. The bad thing is, the lady will be traumatized forever.
That lady won a lifetime clonopin script!
Right. JC.
That’s why I’ll never ride my bike in the street. I don’t trust anyone behind me haha
I know that some places don't allow for riding on the sidewalk, but in Hawaii where I live that's not a thing; nobody ever rides on the road except for people who move here from the mainland.

Nailed it bud. NOT ALL CYCLISTS but some would rather be 'dead right' to prove some point about thier entitlement to use a full lane.
I hate to say it. NOT ALL DRIVERS give a shit about cyclists, they see them as an impediment and burdonsome to thier commute.
I cycle, but never on the road like this. I'm entiled sometimes but i'm not suicidal.
Right. Such an unbiased and practical way of looking at it, how refreshing for Reddit lol.
I live in one of those places where they are not allowed on sidewalks. It just seems crazy to me because a collision between a bicycle & pedestrian is so much less severe than... that. And there are nearly always far fewer people on the sidewalk than cars on the road.

Holy fuck poor cyclist and lady, that’s gonna stick with her for the rest of her life.
Was that his head flying off????
Yep or the helmet. Head looks crushed.
How does the initial impact happen, did he veer out a bit?
My guess is the bus driver got too close and startle him, he might have thought bus was about to hit him which made him lose control and fall
Maybe the airbrakes going off startled him? Those things can be loud AF if you're next to them.
Probably the bus hit his left bike handle causing him to lose control.
This is my guess too. He may have been over too far left and then boom :/ At least it was fast.
Yeah, I wonder what his last thoughts were. Imagine going out and not knowing you won't return home later that day.
Or even the fact that you would be paste on pavement later that day.
Idk if you've ever been in a sideways/t-bone car accident before but that moment before when you see the other car unimaginably close to you is the only thing I can picture. Pain-wise, I have no idea - just damn.
As quickly as that happened his last thoughts were probably "Oh fu- " I doubt it got much farther or deeper than that.
Bus driver was driving way too close and fast.
It looks compound, I think I see two major actions. Panic from the cyclist realizing too late he's swept into the bus's current he reacts tries to hop the curb. The tire reflects as it does and right as that happens the bus finally does the deed the handle bar is snagged inside of that action. You know the rest.
Holy shit wasnt expecting that
That poor lady just out to walk her dog, see's some shit she'll never unsee.
And never unhear.

Man, that is fucking awful. I’m glad the cyclist went quickly, but what an absolutely brutal sight. That lady’s life is changed forever and so is that dog’s honestly.
The dog will forget in 5 min
Like a tube of toothpaste with the lid still on
Imagine you’re walking your dog and some dude just explodes right next to you
Thats always a brutal one to see. That poor lady. Anyone know where this happened?
I remember someone saying it was in the US
Brazil 2021
This is why I hate how governments just either paint a thin strip and call it a bike lane or make cyclists ride on the road with cars.
Such a low effort and shitty approach.
even the dog got scared.
Bet that woman is scarred for life after that, Jesus
I'll always say this. Bike lanes should not be on the road and they should not be treated as vehicles. What a gusher holy shit
Classic gore post.
One of my first experiences with gore that made me realize humans are really just bags of meat.
I can’t tell what flies off/out of the poor cyclist, what body part is that? RIP.
The head I believe.
That was incredibly tragic and brutal, but I feel like this could’ve been avoided if he rode on the sidewalk instead of riding next to moving vehicles in the street, or maybe there should’ve been a bike lane in the first place
In some countries that’s law. Bikers go on streets. Germany too… and not enough bike lanes. Not the cyclists fault
the dog needs a therapist too
I mean... At least it was fast for him.
Did he end up doing the splits or is that an arm and a leg?
i wondered the same thing
Yup...that is the legs
That was definitely not the road for a bike ride, the flow of traffic almost seemed sped up. Cemeteries remain full of people who had the right of way.
That poor woman who had to watch it. She’s got PTSD for sure. I’m happy it was over quick for bro…. Ugh RIP.

Yep. We are a squishy life form.
This is exactly why I refuse to ride on the road. I would much rather ride on the sidewalk if there isn’t a dedicated and separated bike lane.
Worst case scenario in the event of a sidewalk collision is falling down, scraping your knees, or maybe a broken bone.
This is absolutely not happening if you ride on the sidewalk, and I will reference this video every time that gets debated.
This is why cyclists should not be encouraged to ride on the street.
Damn, that was bad.

It's not even about driving skills but basic physics..

Yet the law wants us to bike on the road. Wont see me pedaling down busy streets. Id rather walk it on the sidewalk and live to see another day.

The cyclist should have pointed out that he had the right of way. That would have saved him.
Ever stand on a grape? Same concept.
Dog’s gonna be seeing a therapist for the next five years
Did you ever play the 'pop' game with the old Smarties or Pringles tubes? Kind of like that.
Sadly, you can't play it with Smarties because Nestlé are the absolute worst, in every avenue of their company. (And the tubes are fully paper now.)
Dog running to play fetch, thinking a ball Just rolled over.

Was that his head that flew off like a turtle getting hit by a car?
I hate when that happens.
Therefore, a minimum distance of 1.50 meters must be maintained when overtaking cyclists to prevent such incidents.
Good thing he was wearing a helmet. Poor lady
