EWING — Protesters looking to speak out against federal immigration actions were met with known agitators, including members of the Proud Boys, on Sunday afternoon.

ICE protests are happening around the country, critical of the Trump administration’s immigration policies and ICE raids taking people off the street and out of buildings, frequently without warrants and without identifying themselves as law enforcement, critics say.

One such protest happened Sunday along Olden Ave. in Ewing outside of the Home Depot parking lot.

Members of self-described “western chauvinists,” the Proud Boys, were seen mingling with the anti-ICE protesters in what one witness said was an attempt to intimidate the protesters.

Proud Boys are identified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The Anti-Defamation League describes them as “a right-wing extremist group with a history of using violence, targeted harassment and intimidation.”

Bystanders were concerned that people wearing the Proud Boys logo on shirts, covering their faces, and waving a Proud Boys flag were interacting with the protest and alerted Ewing Police.

Ewing has not yet replied to The Trentonian’s request for information about the incident, but at least one marked Ewing Police car was seen at the protest.
