2 months after Beat It Up album was released and I'm still pissed they didn't make it as the title track or at least made it a double tt. Don't get me wrong, I love Beat It Up but in my opinion Rush has a more complex and timeless feel into it. It's also the perfect balance of vocals and rap without having the lazy/repetitive words in the chorus. And it's also VERY NEO while having that dreamy sound. I'm actually levitating everytime I hear Rush. But it sucks cuz a lot of people won't know about it since it's just a bside. Also I imagine it would've done huge numbers if it was rather promoted.
Imo Neo Center especially Dream management/creative team should do better in picking title songs that would both amuse nctzens as well as the general public. Given that NCT in general already has a bad reputation in music among non-fans, even though they have one of the best discographies. And again I'm not a hater of beat it up, I just think Rush is the better and more unique.
Ps. Just my opinion

I agree that rush is the better song but beat it up makes for a better title track. You also have to think of the performance aspect and concept and beat it up works really well in that regard.
Honestly I think rush tempo and tricky are all good enough to be title tracks in theory but beat it up just fits better.
Not all TTs need to be performance-heavy imo. Sometimes less is more And all you need is a vibe song that everyone can relate to (but also still unique)
Sure but beat it up is catchier and much more marketable than rush
I'd argue it's not really more marketable. With a better marketing team Rush could be every bit as marketable as a title, if not more-so given the actual current trends.
Beat It Up being seen as the "easier to market" choice doesn't mean it's actually the better or more marketable choice. I do like it! But it's the lazy choice because it's basically the only kind of sound SM seems to be interested in giving them anymore.
Going with the obvious, neo-heavy instead of dream-heavy choice has done too much damage to Dream this year. Their last release with any semblance of dream-vibe in the title track, that wasn't totally fucked over by a piss-poor concept and teaser-rollout and promotions, was ISTJ. Which at least struck a decent balance between the dream-vibe and the neo-sound.
And the extra kick in the gut is that every single release has had a better title track choice, practically since Smoothie. Some releases have had multiple better choices.
GBTTF, Chiller and Beat It Up have had too-similar vibes for them to justifiably have all been released as title tracks in the span of about 4 months.
A more tuned in team at SM or Neo Center would have been making better choices instead of the obvious ones. There are too many missed opportunities among Dream's b-sides in their past 3 releases.
Rush is a great b side and arguably a better song than beat it up, but that doesn’t inherently make it a better choice as a title. Parade is my favorite song off fact check and i definitely think it could’ve been a TT too, but I completely understand why they went with fact check instead.
Beat it up (even if the weaker song imo) has more replay value especially among people that may not be nct fans. Rush hits as a b side because it’s everything we love from dream, but id definitely say beat it up is more fun.
Well WIWY was an attempt to course correct from smoothie (which I think they went too far in an opposite direction) and didn’t do nearly as well as chiller. Chiller sits as their top streamed song on spotify and wiwy isn’t even in the top ten.
I’m biased as I much prefer the neo sound from Dream than the “Dream” one as I think it tends to be boring, but clearly the wider fanbase enjoys the more neo tracks
I’m a smoothie truther so I can’t agree there lmao. Wiwy was probably the best choice from dreamscape and chiller was perfect considering how well it’s doing? You may not like them personally which is fine but that doesn’t mean they made a bad choice. The only other song I’d pick from GBTTF for a TT is maybe dream team but it’d need to be reworked to be punchier. Now that I think about it, Dream team as a pre release into chiller would’ve been much better as im not a fan of bttf as a song or really an album concept.
Chiller and beat it up sound nothing alike though?
Other than rush for BIU what b sides would you have picked because gbttf and dreamscape are two of their weakest albums in terms of b sides imo
WIWY suffered from dog shit album rollout, very very poor concept and general negativity, after what was already a very very rough year for NCT in general. That’s a bad comparison.
And I didn’t say the sound alike. They have a similar vibe.
Chiller as the title with a different vibe to the concept around it (something a bit more summery), then Beat It Up would have made more sense. But they all just start blend into one as it is.
I maintain the obvious choice is the lazy one. Just because something is “punchy” or “neo” doesn’t make it the right choice. Making the easy choice contributes to a group become stale.
their more neo title tracks have always charted better though. Fans are usually split with dream releases but chiller was received quite well by the fandom.
Choosing the more “obvious” choice isn’t inherently lazy though? the entire point of a title track is to make a splash and garner attention. BIU does that better than rush. I personally felt like Dream was becoming stale with dreamscape so difference in opinion i guess. Both chiller and BIU feel fresh for them in a way wiwy didn’t to me.
I love that they have to always be intellectual- give a deep unnecessary analysis. You're completely right
I think Beat It Up is more deserving, but I think Rush should have had a music video/been a pre-release.
Beat It Up is great but imo it just sounds like any other previous releases by 127 or U. Idk but I'm getting tired of the repetitive chorus in title tracks when they could've been utilizing their vocals and harmony as a group and Rush gives me all of that while also being hyped.
Meh, just because you like a song better doesn't mean it should be the TT. I agree Rush is excellent though, one of the best Dream b-sides.
Rush was my favorite from the album. I didn’t love beat it up, but I absolutely get why it was a good title track choice. It’s a performance song, and they’ve been killing it with the performances
it's an excellent song, but i don't see how they'd choreograph it
Maybe something similar to unknown choreo or a more simple but fun choreo?
i guess i'm not picky, i quite literally love everything dream comes out with lmao. i haven't hated a title track once, but i do think hot sauce era was a good neo/dream mix album that we haven't gotten in a bit.
i'm listening to rush now and tbh i do not see it as title track worthy. it's not even that it's a slower song, but tbh it doesn't have the TT factor. smoothie, when i'm with you, and poison all are slower but have that IT factor for promotion i think rush is missing. cold coffee would fit better as a second promoted track imo.
I think Dream's title tracks are always goint to get divisive responses lmao Rush is a great song, but I think BIU has a better performance factor. Tricky is also TT worthy but honestly, I wished they had a pre-release song. I think GBTTF was a bad TT and they should have done Chiller as a title track and done a pre-release then. Or Chiller as TT and pre-release song & BIU for the recent comeback. And I will say Dream's b-sides are almost always better than their TTs even though I love their TTs. I want them to do a very straightforward K-pop pop song as a title track, something along the lines of Fireflies or like WIWY / Candy, but I know they need the Neo factor. So I think their A&R tries to find songs that is Neo sounding with some pop / general appeal elements to it. Their best title track to date is still Boom and ISTJ for me.
Chiller is the title track though? GBTTF is the pre release hence it not being available to stream outside the MV before the album dropped (a trait shared with many SM pre releases)
Hello future is the one for me. It’s a song that feels 100% dream as in I can’t see another nct unit also releasing it and it perfectly executes being neo while retaining the brighter dream identity
Sorry, I meant I wished they did Chiller as the title track alone, and not do BTTF at all lol I know BTTF was treated like a pre-release, but they promoted both songs with the intention of it being a double title track.
Yeah bttf is my least fav track on the album. I love chiller but beat it up is the better release imo
i love rush. it's my most listened song in the album. it would have been fun if they performed it as a double title track or a special performance for music shows. but beat it up works better as a title track.
Ngl Rush is one of my FAVS from the BIU ep and I also think it was wasted. BIU just sounded way too noisy for me and as a title track it just killed the whole vibe of the album for me :( (Also, on a general scale, I didn't vibe with this album at all and only listened to it like 4 times lmao)
Rush has been on my "on repeat" playlist since it dropped bc it's just so damn goooood.
It's one of those songs that showcases how dynamic Dream really is & the vibes are simply immaculate. It could've easily been a title track & honestly still deserves at least a MV.
I get why BIU was the TT. But to me it gave club anthem vibes, and I definitely prefer Rush and all the rest of the album over BIU.
no lol, the chorus is not even close to be a title track
the song isn't catchy if compare to beat it up
It's probably my least favorite track from the album but only because I'm borderline obsessed with every other track. That said I agree it would be a good prerelease, just not title track (esp over Beat It Up, which imo is their best title track selection since ISTJ).
i respectfully disagree; the song is neat and more interesting musically than beat it up, but there isn't a lot to offer from the song conceptually. if they made rush the sole title track, went with racing-inspired visual design, and donned racecar coords, that would make the release visually inseparable from nct 127's 2 baddies. there is some conceptual and visual overlap with punch and beat it up, but they're not that apparent.
Worst song in this album I can't with the "Rush~" part
