The rumors have shows the new points system is not a classic full season points, but it also doesn’t appear (hopefully) to be any round based playoff. Some say the Chase, but it also doesn’t seem like we’ll get a copy of any of the previous Chase formats.
Mark Martin is said to be happy with the new system. This leads me to think it will be a hybrid of full season points and the chase. I could see in the last 10 races, they award bonus/double points to, let’s say for example, places 1-3. This would award better performances late in the season.
This would make late season comebacks easier and potentially more exciting, while maintaining a feeling of legitimacy. They could still market this kind of system as “The Chase”. And I could honestly see this type of system satisfying most people.

Guys… its the chase.
The format above could still be considered “10 race chase”
I mean i guess. But i highly doubt theyd do another gimmicky format
Yeah, but the classic chase is more gimmicky than the format above in my opinion.
nah, double points is the ultimate gimmick tbh
Cool another points format post.
1 more day
1 more? Tomorrow just leads to "they should have done" instead of "should do" posts lol
Just need to flood those posts with this gif
Good idea.
We’ll be dealing with it until the Clash lol
Until the sub is flooded with people writing a whole college thesis giving their full analysis and opinion that nobody asked for
You could always just not read them.
Then we’ll get the same posts but “here’s what nascar should have done”
Then we go back to posts about how it sucks and what changes they should make.
1 more day until it becomes 30 posts every minute?
Nah. NASCAR and their TV Overlords can’t quit that points reset with 3/4 of the season done. It’s going to be a version of The Chase
@mods I’m begging you for a megathread tomorrow.
Remember how the Biffle thing went? I don’t tend to criticize much around here but if that’s any indication I don’t think we have much hope until the regular season when rules are tightened up again.
The Biffle posts became a thing because frankly everyone bullied up on the mods who were trying to be responsible and not post about his passing until we had solid confirmation.
However, the courtroom megathreads everyday went perfectly and a great example of how major topics around here should be handled.

Not a bad plan. I don't expect this is what they'll do though.
Believe or not this is the first time I've heard this plan - and I like it.
I’m tired of this, grandpa…
20 hours to go until we can go stop speculating about the format
Then we'll start seeing the "this new format sucks, here's my stupid idea that is way better"
It’s not a terrible idea imo. For example, what if we kept the same playoff system, but the winner of the playoff bracket instead just gets a chunk of bonus points, so you can still win the title by having a dominant regular season
I’ve said for a while that the “crown jewel” races should give double points for 1st. Everyone else gets normal points for their position
Think it'd make more sense for full double points then add in the season finale as a crown jewel.
I don’t hate that idea

That'd be my personal preference to get "excitement" into a full season points system.
But I've just about accepted a 10 race Chase is coming.
We'd need to have one "Top road course" too for parity. Watkins Glen obviously.
I’ve already accepted that I’m going to be disappointed by whatever they end up doing
NASCAR is addicted to handing out charity points to artificially close up the field, they would never go for something like this.
I’ve wondered about something like this too.
Do like The Family Feud, double the points awarded for each race so anyone can win at the end to keep the game entertaining.
I actually like this idea.
What if points are doubled across the board? The winner gets more points than the 2nd place guy
NASCAR’s Euro Series “playoff” is double points for the final few races.
Neat
I'd actually be happy with this, so I'm sure that's not it ..
Honestly at this point I’m more interested to see if the in-season tournament comes back or not
That would be cool i think
If this points format is the answer, I and many others will be delighted
Honestly do away with win and your in and allow first 26 races to mean that consistency matters, do way with the eliminations and have 10 race chase, get rid of stages and hope it makes superspeedway races less about fuel mileage.
Ya know. Out of all the crazy points formats I have heard, I like this idea
If it goes full season I give it 10 years at best before the finicky NASCAR fans want the Playoffs back.
We had Full Season before and the whiners cried to get rid of it.
Who were these whiners? The system implemented after the Winston cup season in 2003 was an overreaction to a 1 win championship season.
I don't know their names but back then most serious fans subscribed to the famous NASCAR newspaper Grand National Scene. I still have a few editions of it. Before Sirius/XM.
I recall the over reaction being centered around Matt Kenseth's lead of nearly 1000 points with 5 or 6 races left.
The Grand National Scene each week had a full size page dedicated to the fans who wrote in. Mostly whiners.
Those people most likely didn't appreciate what they had until it was gone. I honestly would appreciate somebody having a 1000 point lead with 5 to 6 races left as long as the racing is good to great.
Let's agree to disagree and move on. I love NASCAR racing. First race I attended (with my Dad) was the 1951 Beach course. We lived in Daytona.
The Playoffs gave us more excitement than any other format....IMO.
Changing the subject...I believe what has hurt the fans more than anyone thing is having all the races on TV. I'm a few months shy of being 88 YO. My last race I attended was 3 years ago. Nothing like the sound of unmuffled V8s at speed. But my legs just can't take the walking and those steps anymore.
