Okay I just finished watching My Name Is Earl for the first time, and I’m actually crushed that the network cancelled this GOLDMINE so abruptly. How do seasoned watchers cope with not knowing who the dad is, or where earl ends up?
I know I get too connected to shows but this one seemed to be cancelled in the height of character development for all the main characters, and in such a busy time of the show I’m having a hard time turning my brain off on it.
We lean on this comment from series creator Greg Garcia explaining what was supposed to happen
Also, this moment from Raising Hope (Greg Garcia's follow-up to MNIE) is catharsis
Fun Fact: The account that clip is posted to belongs to the guy who gets kicked in the clip
Love both of these. I guess I’ll forever be sad about not knowing Randy’s ending or Joy and Darnell’s ending. I’m glad they showed Darnell’s back story for witness protection before it ended though!
What really gets me is we were robbed of one of the greatest endings of all time
Seriously! The ending Greg wanted would’ve been so perfect and wholesome for Earl. We were robbed of a great show in general, there were so many doors on their way to being closed that were just left cracked open and it kills me.
More than that, MNIE was probably the most important NBC sitcom of the 00s era. Sure 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, and The Office were massive hits and changed sitcoms forever, but MNIE was the only one with a message. Earl J. Hickey is the spiritual leader this world desperately needs, and for his journey to be hamstrung leaves a gaping hole in the message. Finishing the list isn't important; leading by karmic example is important
It was tragic. Unfortunately it really found its audience after it was canceled.
It’s so sad I wish the ratings were higher when it was being filmed. Ill never forgive this lmao
I view it as karma for the publics ignorance when it was airing
Kick network executives in the balls for that one...
“That’s for cancelling my name is Earl” 😂
lol!! Raising Hope characters at their finest!!!
I’ll always wonder what the next series would’ve looked like. I thought maybe they’d do a “two and a half men” style setup where Dodge would join Earl and Randy on their quests to do the list items as well as their day to day escapades.. Earl would be trying to make more of an effort to be a father to a near teenage Dodge and all of the challenges that go with that
… maybe not being a present parent to Dodge for so long is the list item he could never cross off (even though it technically wasn’t his fault)
