Except Obama, he was disliked by most of the people who have now voted for trump. Surely it had nothing to do with the fact that he was a charismatic black man
Obama has been the only President who could speak without being an embarrassment in my lifetime. He seemed like an actual adult who I wouldnt be afraid to be in a room alone with.
Yes but they need to be shit at their job AND white, male and old. If Obama had been shit at the job, he still wouldn’t have been loved because he didn’t satisfy the requirements of the other categories
No one with any influence does. But a lot of people with influence wish we all did.
The blatant attempts at overwhelming us with flimsy lies is like trying to stop a bull with countless walls of tissue paper. It's frustrating, it's insulting, and way too fucking many people are letting it stop them from pushing through and demanding honesty, accountability, and actual fucking representation for the citizens that make this country exist as anything other than Russia's overseas landfill.
THIS needs to be talked more. Senior members of this administration are betting significant dollars that their actions were illegal and will be rescinded and they will profit.
When did journalism grow a spine again? It seems like all of a sudden, they're countering the lies, asking them to explain their bullshit, not letting them wriggle out of non-answers.
Boy have I missed that, and boy will I miss it when it disappears again in about 15 minutes.
They smelled the blood in the water and they're not as afraid of being deported to gulags or nother country for asking questions. He can give them blanket pardons but that's not going to stick if the states decide to screw him.
its like this: they smell the wind of change and like the ticks they are, they switch hosts. Still spineless, dont worry. Its in anticipation of the downfall of it all thanks to the orange man in the past who couldnt keep his hands off of underage girls.

It’s messier than that. Those companies that paid the tariffs passed it on to the consumers. Is there a plan for us to get our money back or is the companies going to be able to double dip on the sale
When the tariffs first rolled out, I remember Amazon, and some other sellers were going to post what cost the tariffs added to the selling price. The administration made some threats, and it was quietly forgotten. Remember, this is the most transparent administration in the history of the United States /S
In this example, the importer pays the tariffs. He undoubtedly kept good records and can document what he paid. If the tariffs are found to be illegal, the government will have to refund what he paid. The importer added the tariffs he paid to the cost of the goods it sold to the wholesaler. However, he may have also sold some older goods that didn’t get charged a tariff. Or, since Trump changed his mind several times, the goods the importer sold may have been charged tariffs at different rates. Or the importer might have decided to add a little bit of extra profit onto the cost the manufacturer paid, or may have eaten part of the cost of the tariffs. The point is, it may be much more difficult to determine how much the wholesalers actually paid due to tariffs. I can’t imagine the government plans to refund anything to the wholesalers. I can’t imagine see some of the wholesalers may have made serious efforts to keep track of how much the tariffs cost them. They could sue the importers to get their cost back, but there are lots of factors that might determine how successful they are. The retailers might be in even more complex situations, because they might obtain the same goods from multiple wholesalers. Accounting for the tariffs for them might well be impossible, but if they think they can accurately do it, they can sue the wholesalers. And then finally, it comes to the customers. Can we sue? Maybe, but usually it wouldn’t be cost effective. The bottom line looks to me like the importers who initially paid the tariffs would get their money back and probably would not have to distribute all of it to the wholesalers who purchased the products. The importers might make out like bandits, or I suppose they might voluntarily distribute some back to their wholesalers.
Look up who's sons own the most Tariff buybacks. Our own secretary of commerce Howard Lutnicks sons are set to make billions when the Supreme Court overturns the Tariffs and they have to be paid back. The game is rigged and you're not allowed to even play.
I didnt see this interview but from the context I assume it's about refunding the tariffs.
The US administration has told their population that the exporting company pays the US government for importing their goods.
Since say, Canada (my country) paid the tariffs the refund would go to me, not an American, according to their "other country pays the tariffs" idea they're peddling.
American companies pay tariffs when they import products into the country. It's a tax. Trump has claimed that foreign countries pay these tariffs, so that he can boast about how much money he's brought in without people in the US realizing that it's a tax that they've been paying through higher prices.
Edit: and the fact that I'm getting down-voted just shows how misinformation has completely confused people to the point that they don't understand what's truly going on.
Tariffs are a tax on imported goods that are paid by American companies at the point that the goods are imported into the country. The cost of these tariffs are predominantly passed along to Americans in the form of higher prices on goods in the store.
However, the Trump administration has been insistent in the lie that the tariffs are being paid by foreign countries, and Americans don't see any impact from these tariffs. This is so they can brag about the "billions" they've made from tariffs without the American people realizing that they are where these "billions" are coming from.
The problem is that these tariffs weren't imposed through law passed through Congress (the legislative body in the US), but by an "executive order" issued by Trump. It is extremely questionable whether Trump has this authority to impose tariffs. As a result, there is a law suit pending before the US Supreme Court (the highest court in the US) to decide whether or not Trump is able to unilaterally issue these tariffs.
If the tariffs are found to be illegal, then it's likely that they would have to be refunded back to the companies that have paid these tariffs. This would reveal the lie that Trump has been pushing that foreign countries paid the tariffs.
This would reveal the lie that Trump has been pushing that foreign countries paid the tariffs.
No it wouldn't. That would require there was something to reveal. This was always 100% obvious to anybody who finished school, and if you didn't, a Supreme Court ruling is going to mean diddly squat.
Exactly. Trump said China would be paying the tariffs, but China never had to write a check.
[Note: Trump has always believed that the foreign country paid the tariffs and that he’s a genius because he’s the only person who understands that. His long term plan is to make enough money from tariffs so that he can eliminate the income tax that Americans have to pay and replace it with tariffs that foreigners have to pay. It’s a great plan, if you ignore the fact that tariffs would have to be ridiculously high to replicate the amount income taxes bring in, and Americans in fact pay the tariffs]
Our own importers had to write the checks. When the refunds go to the importers instead of China, as georgecm12 said, the lie will be exposed. However, the importers almost certainly passed their tariff costs along to wholesalers, who passed them along to retailers, who passed them along to us. Are we going to get our tariff money back? Don’t be silly. Of course not. But we are going to argue about who should get the refunds, which isn’t good for Trump, because that will just make the fact we paid them more apparent to everyone.
The answer is an enigma. The fact is, Trump is a terrible liar, whose idiocy and laziness both keep him from even trying to keep his lies believable and consistent. Why should he even try? His followers don’t care. He could say the sky in green today, and they’d all swear to it. He could say it was red tomorrow and insist he never said it was green, and they’d would turn on a dime and swear to it too. So I don’t think anyone can ex-lain where he falls on the scale of accomplished liars.
I heard/read that Howard Nutlicks sons run a family business that has been buying tariff liabilities off broke companies.
So if a business had paid 100k in tariffs, the Nutlick family might give them 25%.
But if there has to be refunds, then guess who makes heaps of money?
Yes, it’s common knowledge. If Nutlick passes secret info to his sons that increases their profit, that would be illegal. Some administrations would at least discourage that arrangement because of the obvious appearance of impropriety, but the Trump Administration competes to see who can illegally make the most money. Prosecutors are going to feast for years on the carcass of this Administration.
Tariffs apparently are paid by other countries accord to them. And then when these refunds come along they gotta think real hard because they either pay the other countries, the people or bonus points if they do it, themselves. They might as well say it. They want the money.
Some people may, and some might even win. But to win, you’re going to have to be able to prove exactly how much the tariffs cost you and to whom that money went. Good luck!
The reality is (and this is backed with actual data) some corporations are eating a good amount of the tariffs.
Consumers are paying about 25-50% of tariff costs. Depending on the products and company selling it.
Some countries are also eating some of the cost as they lower prices to compete more with domestic companies.
I think the tariffs are incredibly stupid and just overall bad business. There was probably some sort of approach to help bring back some manufacturing to the US. But would have only worked with a longer term plan.
That being said. I would rather have consumer taxes like tariffs than increase in income taxes. At least consumer taxes give you the option of sourcing things elsewhere or limiting what you buy.
You’re getting downvoted because you’re flat out wrong. Sales taxes like tariffs are regressive. They take a much higher percentage of a poor person’s resources than a rich person’s. Income taxes are progressive, in that the more a person makes, the higher percentage the tax is. Before we started believing in trickle down economics, people used to support the idea of more progressive taxes so the rich paid more for the privilege of making money here.
The hole just keeps getting deeper. Just keep digging. One day it will all collapse in on you
I wish but they have been contradicting themselves constantly since the beginning of this shit show and their brain dead followers still not and clap.
I mean did we not see this with Bush Jr?
Nothing happens. America LOVEs their Presidents.
It was tough for him having the combined IQ of his predecessor and his successor while being black
America loves their presidents, but only if they’re shit at the job.
And white, male and old
America doesn’t seem to like Biden, so I say again, they only love the presidents that are shit at the job.
Yes but they need to be shit at their job AND white, male and old. If Obama had been shit at the job, he still wouldn’t have been loved because he didn’t satisfy the requirements of the other categories
Which is basically all of America’s presidents, Obama is the only outlier.
Other than that, the difference is whether they were effective presidents or not.
60% of the time, it works every time
Every last one in the last 40 year (I'm putting a small premium here) should be in federal prison, in the least.
How is there still even one moron out there that thinks the other countries pay the tariffs?!?!
Even if the other countries paid the tariffs, they would just increase the price of the products for consumers.
Either way, it's coming out of your pocket.
They refuse to read or watch anything not told to them by Fox News, newsmax, or their favorite Russian propagandist YouTuber/streamer
The mysteries of faith?
His loyalists haven't cared up to this point, so...
Nah. Gift them with another golden shovel
Dig up, stupid!
No no, surely they'll find themselves on the other side of the Earth, right?
But, but, but.... There's no "other side" to this flat earth!!!
/s (just in case)
I was hoping someone would pick up on this 😂
Not when their base keeps holding up the walls
If you weren't lying, you wouldn't have to remember what you said before.
Oh, what a tangled web we weave ...
Ask Howard Nutlick who's paying the tariffs. His former company the one still ran by his sons are buying tariff rebates from companies.
It wouldn't be doing it if they didn't think it was going to be deemed illegal and refunded.
The whole administration is just one big con job.
Uday and Qusay are gonna make bank
Lol
Really?
there is a whole industry buying up potential refunds for pennies on the dollar right now
very intriguing how many maga-types are involved in the gamble that tariffs will be overturned and reimbursement will be paid
The Lutnick kids, notably

THIS needs to be talked more. Senior members of this administration are betting significant dollars that their actions were illegal and will be rescinded and they will profit.

We'll have to bail out the companies yet again because they are "too big to fail" while the average consumer is busy bleeding from the asshole.
When the tariffs first rolled out, I remember Amazon, and some other sellers were going to post what cost the tariffs added to the selling price. The more he spoke, the lies continued and the redder his face became.
And now his red face is all over Reddit.
The refunds would go to the companies. Unfortunately.
And prices aren't going back down to pre-tariffs levels
For sure. These new prices aren’t going anywhere. Thanks to these a holes.
These are not serious people.
Depends on your definitions.

Thanks. I'm just an outside observer, i don't get to hear the things they say that often (thankfully).
Where would Trump fit on this scale?
The answer is an enigma. The fact is, Trump is a terrible liar, whose idiocy and laziness both keep him from even trying to keep his lies believable and consistent. Why should he even try? So how did he actually respond after conjuring up a quick lie?
My FIL used to say that lying was just too much work. If you lie, you need to remember all the details of your lies and keep track of them.
This seems like a fine example of that.
That’s a common thing for lawyers to tell their witnesses. Don’t lie, because you will forget what you said to whom.
I want out of this timeline
I’ll guess that this is AI because I can’t believe a contemporary journalist would ask a follow-up like that.
A smiling dimwit. As always.

No. Tariffs are famously paid by the importer.
I'm still so miffed people continue to not understand that
Everybody understands that. Some lie.
So... Someone explain? Maybe I'm just short on sleep and not understanding this...
Tariffs apparently are paid by other countries accord to them. And then when these refunds come along they gotta think real hard because they either pay the other countries, the people or bonus points if they do it, themselves. They might as well say it. They want the money.
As a consumer, I'm suing the importers for a cut of that refund.
Some people may, and some might even win. But to win, you’re going to have to be able to prove exactly how much the tariffs cost you and to whom that money went. Good luck!
